What is Malicious Software
Computer viruses - a type of malware, a characteristic feature of which is the ability to reproduce (self-control). In addition, they can damage or completely destroy user-controlled data on behalf of which the infected program was launched. If you search in dictionaries and encyclopedias for the term "Computer Virus", then you can find various definitions, among which "damage" and "independent reproduction" will be "damage. And, in principle, this is true... For classic viruses. software is very diverse and far from always having the characteristics of classic viruses according to Syntax JDE hosting services.
So first let's look at what exactly threatens our computers today.
Classic viruses. This class includes those malicious programs that have the main distinguishing feature of a virus (the ability to reproduce) and run within local computers. That is, it is precisely about these viruses, whose main mass appeared before the widespread distribution of the Internet. According to the destructive action, classic viruses are very different from each other. Among them is, as well as completely harmless (for example, jokes) and very dangerous, able to turn on the system, destroy all documents on the hard drive and so on. To date, the popularity of classic viruses is quite low.
They are distributed in most cases using mobile storage devices (CDs and DVDs, flash cards, external hard drives) from one organization to another. At first, the palm of the championship in the width of the spread reliably maintained viruses that affect executable files. Today, however, they have given way to their macro viruses. This malware is a macro-order, implemented in various documents (documents and forms suffer. Microsoft. Office) and performs certain destructive actions. When opening the infected file they change the pattern.
The virus will then be embedded in any document opened in this case. However, classic malware is well detected and destroyed by modern antiviruses and requires virtually no user attention. There are only a few exceptions to this rule. For example, viruses that use mobile devices to automatically load. In the process of infection, they prescribe a link to their executable file in autorun.inf. So, it will appear every time it connects the infected "Flash Drive" to the computer automatically starting the Virus.
Lately, however, more and more viruses are switching to automatic deployment using “holes” in clients and the operating system itself. In this case, the infection occurs in the same way, but without the participation of the user. Running the virus boot is done automatically when you visit a website or open a letter. Detection of the presence of a network worm can be in three main characteristics. The first is the large number of outgoing TCP / IP packets that are sent continuously or at more or less specific intervals. Another suspicious content is TCP / IP packets.
However, for the end user, the biggest benefit is the third sign - the unusual structure of traffic spent. An illiterate increase in consumption or a sharp increase in the share of outgoing traffic almost certainly indicates the presence of malware.
