When did you come out as ace originally? Was it chill or a wow moment for you?

I came out to my friends when I was fourteen and then retracted it because I thought I’d lied to myself about being ace to be ✨special✨. Then, during lockdown, I started noticing certain things I felt and did that kind of didn’t line up with how other people felt and acted around people that they were attracted to. AND THEN a friend recommended Radio Silence by Alice Oseman which I read and LOVED and I started to think about the aspec characters in the novel, and started to realise that I was right when I was fourteen. Anyway, I read Loveless by Alice Oseman which is about an eighteen-year-old (like me!) realising she’s aroace which was basically the final thing that made me know because.... I don’t know, some of the passages in there HURT, you know? I felt them in the deepest parts of my heart and i just knew that I’d always been right about myself

ok i’m going to make a more in depth response to this bc it unexpectedly blew up but i’m seeing a lot of responses and tags about babygays and i need y’all to understand something real quick. y’all need to realize that babygays being obnoxious is literally not harming anybody and we all know it’s a phase they’ll eventually grow out of; it’s really not that deep i promise you. cishet boys and girls can go through phases in their pre and early teens of being “boy/girl crazy” or being obsessed with performing their gender the way they want but when lgbt kids do it then or even a little bit later y’all suddenly have a problem with it. these are just kids, don’t come at them with your own internalized phobias.

I finished reading "Loveless" by Alice Oseman today and I realized just how much I needed to see myself in the main character of a story for once??? and how happy it made me to be able to relate so much??? like it's amazing how I've read all of these books throughout my life and loved the characters but couldn't really relate to what they were feeling and now with Georgia I can totally do that. This is why representation matters.

The true subversion in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries isn’t every tiny piece of work gone into the updated setting, but the fact that it shifts the story from being about Lizzie and Darcy to being about Lizzie and Lydia.

The prejudice, here, isn’t merely about Lizzie not seeing Darcy beneath the awkward; far more, it is about Lizzie not seeing Lydia for anything more than a “stupid, whore-y slut”. The true pride isn’t just Darcy being a snob, it is Lydia’s refusal to let Lizzie see anything beneath the surface of the party girl. 

It might be - heck, it probably is - that I never was particularly invested in Darcy in this version. But the thing that destroys me, every time, is the moment where Lizzie finally sees her. THAT is where the story turns; in a story where the men are mainly spectres of discussion while the people telling the story on-screen are women, the moment the story kept building up to was this episode between the two women who were always there, from the very first episode. 

The greatest emotional turning point in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries isn’t when Elizabeth Bennet finally admits to loving William Darcy; it is when she breaks down and admits to loving her sister. And that is a new take on this tale.
