Make love to me in Spanish. Not with that other tongue. I want you juntito a mí, tender like the language crooned to babies. I want to be that lullabied, mi bien querido, that loved. I want you inside the mouth of my heart, inside the harp of my wrists, the sweet meat of the mango, in the gold that dangles from my ears and neck. Say my name. Say it. The way it’s supposed to be said. I want to know that I knew you even before I knew you.
Sandra Cisneros, “Dulzura,” Loose Woman: Poems (via lifeinpoetry)
English seems like such a bummer language for love, reading this. And certain regional accents of German, likewise major bummer.
The perks of being a wildlife photographer.

What is, in your opinion, the best news outlet? I know each one has at least a small slant, but do you believe there is one that is best at producing solid journalism without pandering to a certain demographic?
I don’t have a source. I rely on lots of scanning, scanning that is itself shaped by a career spent reading.
A good rule of thumb, but one hard to accept (even for me), is: if it perfectly confirms your existing bias, you shouldn’t trust it.
A few friends from university and I hung out over a barbecue this afternoon (hosted at a friend’s house). It’s been a very rainy and windy day, so we set up the grill in a shaded area of the porch. Afterwards we held a Skype birthday party for a friend who’s spending the summer in Johannesburg. Ombre chocolate cake included but no candles – the irony, of course, is that the birthday girl couldn’t have any.
The peach wine in this photo was my favourite gastronomic part of the get-together (all right, so my best friend’s cardamom and cinnamon brownies came pretty close!). Terhune Orchards also sells a blueberry wine (Harvest Blues). The friend who brought this wine said that the two taste heavenly if mixed together. Something to put on my bucket list.
! Terhune Orchards! That takes me back.
ouroboromnomnom: Small world! Did you visit/live in NJ? I haven’t been to Terhune in four/five years but my friend went blueberry picking yesterday and picked up this wine.
Yeah, I lived around there for a few years and visited once or twice. Drove by all the time. I have a severe soft spot for orchards in general . . . like . . . very severe.
Maybe I’ll drop by again soon! Fruit wine can be oh so good. I didn’t know they made it there.
Currently living and working in the idyllic town of Urtijëi, Italy, sculptor Willy Verginer shares a closeness with his environment in both technique and concept. His surreal wooden sculptures are carved from a single linden tree trunk with incredible precision and detail. Although their features are classical, Verginer paints bold stripes of color across his figures and poses them in awkward positions, making them completely contemporary. Previously covered here, he’s often paired his figures of women, men, and young children with other animals and objects that don’t fit together. His most recent pieces, which are on currently view at Galerie Van Campen & Rochtus in Belgium, pairs them with oil barrels.

Bees are our friends.
Wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets exist for literally no other reason than to destroy your happiness.
Protect bees.
Good rule for telling if it’s a bee or not: if it has a fluffy jumper on, it’s a bee.
Get your mouth over here and pull it out of my inside pocket.
