2 day game dev compo
I submitted a game for this month’s Ludum Dare Game Compo, check it out!
The theme is “You Are The Monster”. The game is about sitting alone in a dark room and downloading a recently released episode of a TV show.
So happy and proud to announce that Lunatic's Bane has made it onto Steam Greenlight! Thank you to everyone that made this possible, I love you all!

Lunatic’s Bane Kickstarter Postponed
Hey everyone, this is an announcement that I've stopped and postponed the Lunatic's Bane Kickstarter campaign until a later date in the near future. There's a few aspects of the game that I don't think are being translated well in the trailer or at the current state of the game, so I'm going to spend the next few months polishing things to make the vision of this project as clear as possible. This might include major restructuring of some thematic elements, but the core of what Lunatic's Bane is all about will remain.
Thank you so much to everyone's support so far, look forward to more developments soon!
A dark island with a big secret filled with society's most criminal and insane. Explore this dark, open world in Lunatic's Bane, now on Kickstarter.
Check out the first article written about Lunatic’s Bane! Thanks Cliqist!
Pretty interesting page you have here! I'm curious: how do you intend to explore the theme(s) of mental illness?
Thanks! The game world is filled with all sorts of deranged and confused individuals. There will be characters with their own abnormal phobias, strange addictions, varying forms of hopelessness and depression, etc. Some minor psychological issues might even be inflicted upon the main character like a curse or sickness in other RPGs, such as loneliness which can only be cured by doing a positive gesture for another character.
I'm proud to announce that Lunatic's Bane is now live on Kickstarter! Watch the Kickstarter trailer, and show your support by backing the project, or sharing the Kickstarter link with your friends (or anyone that would be interested).
Thank you to all the followers who have supported Lunatic's Bane up to this point!
New cover picture! I think it sums up the tone of the game pretty well :)
Is there any way for us to ask a question about the game or development?
Now there is! Click on “Ask a Question!” at the top of the page and I’ll answer your questions as soon as possible.
Interview 1
>What themes does your game explore that set it apart from very similar games in the same genre?
Some of the themes explored include insanity, sickness, hopelessness, guilt, sin, and death.
>How are these themes and ideas expressed through gameplay?
There won't be any quests to kill x amount of rats. Every NPC is unique, with their own mental or physical ailments and philosophies.
>How does this game separate itself from the simple "dodging and shooting" mechanic you often see in these top-down 2D games?
I've put a lot of work into making sure the combat system is simple but engaging. The way the stamina bar interacts with your movement and weapon speed forces you to consider the best opportunities for attacks. Every weapon also has unique attributes (damage, range, attack speed, stamina drain, etc).
>How does the game hook players?
Like other games in the genre, the skills and random loot can be very addicting. The key to an open world setting like this one is to reward the player for exploration, and I think the wide variety of environments, creatures, spells, and equipment will be very immersive.
>Why would I play this game over something like Hotline Miami?
Hotline Miami is a fun but tightly linear experience. Lunatic's Bane is more about exploration, atmosphere, freedom of choice, and character building.
>How do you think it stands up to same-genre games with bigger budgets?
Realistically, you'll get more content and polish out of a game like Pillars of Eternity or Divinity: Original Sin. I'm just one guy working on my dream game, and it will also likely be around 1/10th of the price of a bigger budget RPG. I also have more freedom to explore risky game design decisions, so it will definitely be a unique experience.
