But sometimes good media analysis really does requite require you to take a step back and realize that sometimes your 'deep' observation is just chasing a windmill and may not actually make sense when you look at the larger picture You need enough analytical skill to know to look deeper, but you also need enough humility to realize your analysis can be misguided or incorrect.

I can't remember if it's a Reddit post or a 4chan thing where someone's DMing a D&D game, and they tell the players they have to beat this major villain, but then the players go off and make the nation change it's views on gay marriage, and they go through the whole thing and then the villain just comes and wipes everyone out, and the DM basically goes "I told you that you had to beat this guy".
