Writing a Klance fic in 2025 because that show you watch aged 10 never really leaves you
i love the way dean uses the impala as a way to show sam that he does care about him.
when they part ways at the end of s5e2 dean asks sam if he wants the impala and then when they reunite and dean apologizes to sam for "keeping him on a short leash" at the end of s5e5 he lets sam drive after their conversation, adding weight to his words, showing him that despite everything that happened, he still entrusts sam with not only his most prized possession, but his ONLY possession. despite everything that happened, he still cares about sam more than anything.
voltron is a kids show for babies who are babies and like giant robots but. a year? a year to topple an empire thats dug its slicing claws into over half the known galaxy? its an impossible task made sillier by such an impossible hyperbole. a year?
keith is going to be thirty before hes walking back into that shack. lance's mom is going to get her boy back covered in scars. a map of the galaxy in pale, hairline slits over his skin. colleen holt is going to leave her latest tenure at the local grieving-widow's-support-group, sixty and tired, to find her children sitting in the kitchen. hunk's parents are going to see a man where they lost a boy. not a man of the early 20s variety, a man, with dark stubble and strength in his arms and shadows in his eyes. shiro's parents will be seeing a stranger. shake the hand of the chiseled war veteran, and feel the way the metal slides, smooth, over your skin.
i want the return to earth to be like wearing clothes that dont fit. pulled from your childhood dresser, well-worn and well-loved and impossibly small. tight around your broad adult shoulders and scarred arms. the sky is blue, and the ocean is salty, and life has gone on without you. its not a matter of "you changed, and your home didnt". quite the opposite. your parents had other children. your siblings got married. your grandparents died. your home-- and the people you left there-- changed. but you changed, too. and you and your home changed in opposite directions. your nieces and nephews dont know your face. your parents cant stop looking at the scar on your neck. your siblings ask you what happened, and there is no answer, because there is no way to say that everything happened. you lived a whole life in the stars. and they lived a whole life down here, on the ground.
[shrugs] or maybe you walked into an empty shack after twelve years
no you have to contribute to your fandom if you don't want it to die. most fandoms die because people say 'it's so sad watching the fandom die when the hype dies' without doing anything about it. I'm not saying you have to push out 100k word slow-burn fic, I'm not saying you have to make fan art or gif sets or edits or anything. I'm just saying we as a community should contribute to our fandom if we don't want it to die, and by contributing, I'm talking about giving kudos, commenting on your favorite fics, reblogging your favorite art and just talking about your favorite characters. that's enough to keep a fandom alive. that's the most effective way to keep a fandom alive in my humble opinion.
fandoms die because people stop talking about it, fandoms die because people stop engaging with fan content once the hype is gone. what I'm saying is, mainstream media's hype may be gone, but our fandom can stay alive and thriving if us as a community don't let it die.
i think a big part of expanding your intellectual curiosity and trying to learn new things about the world is to abandon the shame of not knowing things. don't blame "the US school system" (which US school system????), don't blame your teachers, don't blame society, but embrace the fact that you are going to be learning new things constantly, throughout your life. practice saying "i really need to read about that" or "does anyone know of any good sources to learn about xyz?" or "hold on i gotta go check wikipedia/a world map/the dictionary/the news." every single day, there will be something you don't know already. that something doesn't have to be embarrassing. instead it can be an opportunity to learn something new
shame makes you shut down, and dig in your heels, and refuse to engage. curiosity takes practice, it takes conscious effort, and it takes patience. including patience with yourself
Shipping a man in a canon het relationship with another man but I'm shaking my head the whole time so you know it's not out of misogynistic disregard for the woman character
BLATYZ SPEECH SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOR LANCE I MEAN C'MON
“they’re queerbait this, they’re not canon that” they’re whatever i want them to be on ao3 actually
At some point "fanfic can be as good as professional writing" became "fanfic should be as good as professional writing" and that's caused major damage to fandom spaces.
Why Lance is fire and Keith is water
A big mischaracterization of Lance is that he's not a fiery guy, when in fact his personality resembles fire in so many ways. He's hot-headed, far more than Keith, and that's something that's easily missed because Keith is such a reactive guy. Majority of the fights between Keith and Lance are started by Lance. Lance is also quick to always call out bullshit. He's very passionate about what he does and he always has something to say.
Lance has a temper and I think its so crucial to his character and his dynamic with Keith because without it, their relationship becomes a lot more mellow. Most of the time Keith is just standing like an NPC and Lance will get irritated by that and have something to say, hence causing a fight. Lance has the fire, always has, and it simply reflects on Keith.
I'd like to second this point by saying Keith's personality resembles water. Not that he's completely chill and passive, although he can be. But he's extremely turbulent and malleable. If Lance will start a fight he'll match the energy-he'll shape himself into a fighter. Keith has always been moving around from place to place and he's always had to mold himself into what's most suitable for survival, the same way water clings to a glass. He's got a lot of emotional conflicts within him. The fact that Keith's characterization is very similar to water is also alluded to in the fact that Lance is very drawn to both the ocean (water!) and Keith alike. He can't stop pursuing either.
Now I'm not saying that Lance and Keith are opposites when I call them fire and water because I don't think they're opposites at all. Both can grow/spread to great lengths, both carry a storm, and both can also be kind and gentle and necessary to live (ex: a fire provides warmth and water provides sustenance). Water can fuel fire, the same way Keith grows Lance's fire. Fire can also make water steam and boil, the same way Lance makes Keith react. If the water is greater than the fire, the fire will fizzle out; but if the fire is greater than the water, the water will evaporate. They'd have to be on equal levels for this cause-effect relationship to work. And Lance and Keith have always been on equal level (despite any internal insecurities). They always been neck to neck.
Keith and Lance had great characters that could've been explored more. Regardless of if you ship them or not, they had the potential to be very well written foil characters. Unfortunately that didn't happen :(.
Something I constantly think about is Lance's insecurities actually coming from him being POC and how, from the very beginning, he was set up to be a farmer by the writers and other characters.
I've always seen his personality as an amalgamation of stereotypes of latinos: stupid, flirty, and only ever the comedic relief. but it seems like the writers purposely wrote the other characters to treat him like that, too. and ik ppl think the choice to make him a farmer was stupid, and dont get me wrong, it was, but I also think it's sickeningly fitting.
He had evryone in his life, from teachers to the ppl he was supposed to have this "special, universe saving bond" with, doubt his abilities VERY outspokenly all the time and then was shown time and time again that he'll never be the first pick or choice; so was he really going to continue going through that even when given the choice to not have to?
it just wasn't going to happen bcuz it's easier to be what evryone thinks you are than to fruitlessly try again and again to prove them wrong. why would he continue this up hill fight when the war was already over? he wasn't needed and he KNEW that, so why would he stay in space instead of being what he was told he should've been all along? A farmer. A reminiscing, widowed farmer becuz what else could a latino ever be? he was "just a boy from Cuba" so obviously he would never get the girl or be a leader or have dreams outside of what his skin color deemed possible. even if his very soul yearned for the moon and stars, just like the ocean, he's forever made and stuck to the Earth.
anyways....siri, play Your Best American Girl by Mitski 😛
"Nice characters are boring" to YOU. I love characters who no matter what, will always have genuine love for humanity in their heart. Characters who dance and laugh and sing with sincerity. Characters who believe in others, and are willing to extend a helping hand to people when no one gave them the same luxury. Characters who have gone through so much but believe, no matter what, that humanity and life is something beautiful and worth protecting
Disabled people have to live somewhere poor people have to live somewhere you cant just exclude us from everywhere
"What if theyre dirty" is it worth killing us over?
"What if theyre loud" is it worth killing us over?
"What if it would inconvenience me" is it worth killing us over?
People die without housing.
People have been mentioning it so I want to explicitly say this includes addicts
voltron in 2023??? VOLTRON IN 2024 TOO WATCH OUT BITCHES
i genuinely can’t leave the voltron fandom it chases after me every time i try to run away
What better critique of our current system than how it favours for success people with an absolute minimum of taste, creativity, and compassion. We've handed the reins of society to a class of men that do not comprehend the meaning of "A Christmas Carol" in the slightest. It stops short of saying being rich is WRONG ffs, just not at the expense of your neighbour!
