They’re affordable because Warby Parker bypasses a dominant industry supplier, designs in-house and sells direct.
We love Warby Parker not only for their beautiful product but because they are responsible champions of the Buy-One-Give-One philosophy: for every pair of glasses sold, they in turn donate the value of a pair of glasses to their non-profit partners, including VisionSpring.
Their partners train local people in developing countries to give basic eye exams and sell glasses in their community (the glasses are sold rather than donated to avoid a "culture of dependency").
Over 1 million pairs of glasses have been distributed to those in need since Warby Parker's inception 2010. Pretty cool achievement, pretty cool company.
