Hi! Update on peafowl egg art ❤️ The first one is traditional pysanky, the second one I did by etching - I put wax on for the floral design then soaked in vinegar to remove a layer of shell, the removed the wax, so the color on it is the natural color of the egg. Thanks again for giving me the chance to experiment, peafowl color themed one coming soon!

oh ho! They are beautiful! I didn't even know that was possible to do art like the second one! I knew that shells can be dissolved in vinegar but it would never have occurred to me to use that to make art with. That's super cool, and it turned out well!

First egg day is always magical. I brought home eggs to hatch in March and now these beautiful ladies are finally starting to lay! It’s been a very eager 29 weeks since they’ve hatched. (And I’ve been saying “aaaany day now for about 5 weeks.)

Not sure who laid them but I suspect a black copper marran and an olive egger (front two). The two in the back came from my black australorp, Purdy. We’re still working on laying them in nest boxes but I’m pleased as pie that they’re laying at all!

...btw i don't think i was explicit enough in that food post that it was like. a ridiculous amount of food. she'd disappear and reappear and then sit me down at a table with like 3 uncut rolls of kimbap in foil a half gallon of tteokbokki with 2 boiled eggs in a plastic bag and 3 individually wrapped fancy sandwiches. one time after i mentioned liking sushi she brought me a party tray meant for minimum 5 people. she did not want to eat any of it for herself.

when i see ogata eating there's some part of me that transmogrifies into a version of my great aunt who, when i visited as a teenager, would buy large amounts of food for me to eat every morning and gently urge me in korean "먹고, 먹고", "eat up, eat up", whenever i slowed down

fun fact: some species of fish are mouthbrooders, meaning that they carry their eggs/fry in their mouth to protect them from danger. this behavior is most commonly seen in cichlids, but also occurs in certain species in other familes like catfish, gouramis, and arowanas :)
