The Beast under the Mountain

Bilbo was running again. The orcs were gaining on him again. No matter how well he hid, no matter how silently he walked, the sharp noses of their wargs always found his trail. The worst part was that he didn't know where he was running to. He lost his map about a week ago and now he was making his way east through the mountain range like a blind man, not even having a chance for a long rest and a good sleep.

Desperation forced him to go to where he thought the south was and for many days he crept through the wastelands until he saw the outline of a new mountain in front of him. It was much larger than the previous ones, but then he did not pay any attention to it, because a pack of orcs found him after all. And only this huge mountain could become his refuge.

The orcs weren't very good at climbing, but didn’t even think to leave their prey. Bilbo could already hear the creak of their drawn bows, the clash of their swords and the rumble of their sinister and unknown language behind his back. But after just a moment the rough voices were turned into a terrible howl. The arrows were fired, but didn’t find their mark.

Bilbo managed to hide behind a rock, feeling his body fill with pain and fatigue. His sight was dimmed, but from the advancing darkness he could make out a strange and frightening figure bending over the body of the defeated orc, like a beast tearing prey apart.

The pair of sparkling blue eyes stared back at him, and a new scream broke the gloomy silence of the mountains. The scream was loud and desperate. Something was wrong. That sound shouldn't have happened! Bilbo realized this as soon as he opened his eyes in his room. It was a real scream. Thorin's scream.

I don't know if you're still doing requests, but since I saw your dragon Thorin, I've been dying to know how you would draw Fairy Bilbo

I had fairy Bilbo concepts where he was more stereotypical fairy, like a butterfly or something with flowers, but I like bumblebee Bilbo more. He is so fluffy and softlooking, but can sting

Hah, and in the previous post I said that Dragon Thorin doesn't dream, and while I was drawing this art, I thought it would be so funny if his first dream in years would be something about Fairy Bilbo XD

He is uncomfortable sleeping on his back because of the spines, so he curls up like a cat.

And he can hibernate as real dragons, which can sleep for years and decades, but his ability is much weaker. He can sleep for months and eat four or five times for all this time, but in this state he can't dream and barely remembers waking up to eat. That’s how he lived before Bilbo. But the more time Thorin spends with him, the less sleepy he gets

Omggg I've seen your Smaug drawings (adore them) so can we possibly have a baby Smaug? I've always thought dragons were just big cats, so maybe he's playing with a shiny piece of gold?

Gollum stealing the babies of Dale to eat them is probably the last thing I expected to draw in all my life…. ANYWAY, I think this is an interesting scary idea from @vampire-hubby. And I want to hope, in the end, Bard found the strength to draw his sword and protect his grandson.

I'm new to your Dragon Thorin and Bilbo comic, and I'm not sure if you've answered this already but I'm curious as to what's happened to Kili and Fili?

Also just wanna say your art looks really cool and if you feel like drawing a design for Dragon sick Kili and Fili that would be so cool

Oh, hah, that's an interesting question. I would be happy to answer, but then it would be a very big spoiler. So, all I can say is that they were old enough to go on the journey with Thorin... And maybe Kili got a broken nose.

His temples throbbed. His heart burned like coal in a forge. His breathing was hoarse like that of a hunted animal. He bumped into walls and felt them crack under his weight, felt his claws scratching the stone in an attempt to distract himself from the burning in his chest and throat, while his feet carried him deeper and deeper into the mountain. To the treasury. After all, the only thing that could ease his agony was gold. Its mesmerizing brilliance calmed the pain and confusion, brought together a torn mind... But was it his mind? Thorin didn't even know anymore.
