I created a quick walkthrough on my process! You can do the same with any digital art program and brushes you like. As always, learning comes with critical thinking and if you feel this does not apply to you, then no worries! There’s no correct way to do things as long as you achieve the results you want. 

The technique can be customized with different brush types and colours, and can be as simple or heavily rendered as you so desire. I hope it helps a little! I like to do lighting like this in my own work for a sense of atmosphere.

Rest Sweetly, Jennypen

Hello friends and anyone who knows who Jennypen is (author of the popular Growing Boys series on AO3). This probably isn’t the best platform for this because of Tumblr’s implosion, but I don’t know where the rest of her audience mainly is anymore.

This morning, Dec 24th 2018, at about 4am EST (9am GMT for her), Jennypen’s fight with cancer came to an end. Surrounded by her family, she passed comfortably and quietly. She spoke so highly of all her fans and supporters, I figured you guys deserved to know what happened.

I am Kareen. I’ve been Jenny’s best friend for over ten years. I’ve helped her through so many milestones in her life, from escaping abusive relationships, her friends dying, parenting stress, rebuilding self-esteem, physical health and mental health complications, and the crux of it all: welcoming her into a polyamorous relationship with our boyfriend Cas. 

I did it as a means to protect her from toxic significant others, and I have no regrets. She spent the last year happier than she had been for the ten before it, so you can rest easy knowing her life ended on a pretty high one despite her circumstances. Cas and I must now clean up the broken edges of our relationship caused by the loss and try to carry on and be the best people we can be so we can honor her and her kind heart.

Rest sweetly, my closest friend. I’ll see you around.

Jenny was my role model, my inspiration, and a beloved friend, and knowing that she’s just…not here anymore is incredibly painful. Most of our family’s relatives have passed and I’m no stranger to death, but Jen was such a light in my life that I find myself aching at the loss more than anything else. Jen was funny, smart, and kind, and her love for her daughter was inspiring. I remember writing how I’d hoped that if I had children, that I could raise them with the same dedication and love. I would make decisions thinking “Jen would go about this in a better way” and would remedy my approach. The last thing she sent me was kind messages of support and a well-worded summary of JJBA ahaha I just…have so many feelings and emotions and it’s hard to deal with it all, but I’m glad that she can finally be at peace. I’ll always miss you, Jenny. Thank you for everything.
