today’s funky frog of the day is: notaden bennettii! commonly known as the crucifix toad, they are found in western and south-western australia. unlike the other frogs in the genus notaden, crucifix toads are very brightly lightly colored, as apposed to the usual dark brown. dots cover their back in the shape of a cross, hence the name. these frogs bury themselves underground in a cocoon and only emerge when there is heavy rain. when threatened, they exude a “frog glue,” catching some predators in their skin that they will eat when they shed.
