Beacon had fallen. Yang’s arm was gone. Ruby was still unconscious. Ozpin was gone. Nothing made sense to Qrow anymore.
Tai had let Qrow stay in the guest bedroom. Tai had asked a million questions when Qrow returned with the girls. Qrow had done his best to answer what he could.
Qrow wanted to sleep but found himself unable to. So for the most part he would just lay there looking at Ozpin’s cane that was on the nightstand. It was the only thing Qrow had found in the Vault beside the dead body of the fall maiden.
There was a knock on the door. Qrow sat up to see Tai. “Mind if I come in?” He held up a bottle of whiskey.
“Well since you have that you can.”
Tai walked into the room and sat on the edge of the bed. He passed the bottle over to Qrow who opened it and took a big drink.
“I thought you didn’t approve of me drinking?”
“I’m giving you a pass just this once because I know what you’re going through.”
“Okay I’ll bite what exactly am I going through Tai?” Qrow asked taking another drink then setting the half empty bottle beside the cane.
“Look when Summer died I was in complete denial about what happened. I kept thinking she would come through the door with a plate of fresh cookies.” Tai said with a sad smile. “No one is powerful enough to come back from the dead not even Oz.”
Tai got up and left without another word. Qrow felt guilty for it but Tai didn’t know about the wizard’s power. But even with that whoever showed up wasn’t going to be his Oz.
Tears began to fall when Qrow finally whispered the words he had been pushing off for so long.
