background
ozzy was born to high school sweethearts, claire banks and johnny everett, the pair married two years after ozzy was born. her mother became a high school art teacher while her father went into the medical sales field.
she had a wonderful childhood, she grew up heavily involved in the arts; books, music, movies, dance, and museums helped build a base for the things she'd come to love.
the day after her tenth birthday ozzy came downstairs to find her dad with his bags packed, telling her mother he was leaving them for another family that he had started a few years previously. ozzy couldn't fully understand what he meant, she stood in the hallway watching the door for the rest of the day waiting for him to return but he never did.
her mother began a second job at the old diner down the road from their new apartment to help support her young daughter. that diner became a second home to ozzy, she spent most nights there, doing homework and eating dinner and eventually she began working there and continues to work there to this day.
her father tried to keep a relationship with his daughter and for a while she really tried too. her dad was her best friend but that quickly changed when she went to stay with him for the first time and realized how much of an outsider she felt with his new wife and her half siblings that soon followed. over the years she continued to distance herself from him, she still sees him on occasions even if she doesn't feel like she fits in with his family.
during high school she kept to herself for the most part, she had a few friends from different groups and was considered a nice but quiet girl. she started smoking in high school, finding it her escape and way for her creativity to flow. the party scene wasn't much of her scene, she would go on occasions if she was with someone she was interested in the moment but she doesn't like to drink.
ozzy is a big flirt, she says she's a hopeless romantic but she really just falls in love easily. she's always looking for love in the wrong places and seems to be heartbroken more than anything.
ozzy had been sitting up on the sandy hill, listening to the waves in the ocean as the sky darkened and her feet pushed the sand around slowly. it had been a while since she had come up here to relax and unwind, the joint she was smoking seemed to be the cherry on top. hearing someone approaching she quickly stuck the joint into the sand to put it out “shit you scared me” a small laugh escaping.
the storm the night before had kept ozzy up for most of the night and of course she had to be up early today and she was already dragging. a quick stop by the coffee shop to pick up a quick espresso had caused her to see a familiar face. she took a sip from her cup before sighing “ i need a to switch things up, what’s your go to? ”
“ u know i like working with you right? you may be my favorite coworker besides gary, of course “ ozzy shrugged “ but i’d love it if you’d actually helped me clean up instead of just trying to flirt with every attractive person who walks in.” her eyes narrowed on him as she tossed a towel in his direction.
show your face , go engage with the community . . as if his father does any of that during elder’s own free time . probably not . nonetheless , didn’t expect the journey to be this daunting though , having to stop at a nearby cafe before he would face his father once more . immediately likes the vibe of this place , lowkey and semi - occupied , eliminating the need for any business talk to come towards his direction . smiles when the waitress arrives however , seeming to be the very highlight of his day . “ it’s going good , can’t complain , ” head shakes in complete approval of his words , ocean tinted hues taking a second to analyze new features , “ even better with those pies you were talking about . . how about a s l i c e of both ? ”
the brunette grinned softly when the man shot her a smile “ good, i’m glad you’re having a good day! “ she rocked on her feet slightly, a laugh leaving her lips upon hearing him order both desserts “ a slice of both huh? i promise you won’t be disappointed. i’ll be right back with them. “ she gave one last smile before turning away to head to the back of the kitchen. after a few moments she returned and set two small plates down. “ the cherry is my favorite, but i’ll let you be the ultimate judge. even if you don’t like them i’ll need you to lie to me, i personally made them today so i’d rather not be heartbroken. “
Working the late shift was honestly Ozzy's favorite, there wasn't much rush to anything and she always felt there was a better connection to her customers in the evening rather than during the day. they weren't pretending for the sake of others that could hear or see them during the day. there was a couple seated in the back booth and a college student at the breakfast bar when she headed to the newly occupied table. "evening doll, coffee or sweet tea? i've got peach cobbler or an cherry pie for dessert." a warm smile on her face "how's your night going?"
It took all but five minutes for his walk to be interrupted. As if the universe wanted him to work, work, work, and repeat. As soon as he foot came down on whatever it was on the ground, he let out a deep sigh - before bending down to pick up the object in question. “Think you might’ve dropped this,” He shouted at the person in front of him. Only half-expecting them to give him the time of day.
Ozzy had just left the park after finishing her morning reading session and coffee trying to head to the diner for her shift. her arms were full of a few books, her half empty coffee cup and her apron, she didn't even notice she had dropped anything until she heard a voice behind her. as he turned her head she noticed the brunette behind her holding his hand out with her favorite and oldest book, breakfast at tiffany's. ignoring the small flip her stomach made when she realized she could have lost it forever she finally caught his eye and gave a small smile. "oh my goodness, you're a life savor" she laughed as she reached for the book "thank you, honestly. i would have spent the whole week crying if i lost this thing."
Maybe Axel should have put a lot more thought into getting a puppy than he had. It wasn’t his fault the dog had been staring at him through the window with the saddest eyes he had ever seen. “Dude where are we even going?” he asked, obviously not expecting an answer back but feeling the need to voice his thoughts out loud as the dog pulled him through the streets of Charleston.
Another hard tug from the puppy and the leash fell from Axel’s grip. “Shit!” he yelled as the puppy made a run for it. A heavy sigh passed his lips before he took off running down the street himself. “Hey can someone catch that dog! He’s not rabid! I think anyways,” he shouted to anyone in close proximity, hoping someone would be able to catch him before he ran into the middle of the street.
Ozzy couldn’t stand to be cramped up in her apartment on a night like this one, it was beautiful out and the breeze on her face made her feel alive somehow so she decided to let her walk turn out to a long and unplanned one. it wasn’t until that moment that she really took other people around her into account. she was pulled from her daze when she heard a man shouting and then soon saw the little pup running down the sidewalk. the brunette crouched down and let the dog stop in front of her, smelling her extended hand before rubbing up againt her “looks like someone got away, you’ll have to learn to be quicker” she joked once the man approached.
