Hello omg, this got so long and I put so much parenthetical information sorry!
As someone new to this fandom, has anyone done a Sophie and Forkle Frankenstein AU? With Sophie obviously being Frankenstein's monster. I watched the new movie (and have been and avid fan of the original book) and the whole concept of Forkle not thinking of the consequences of basically creating a living breathing girl, and making her for the sole purpose of defeating the Neverseen or wtv is kinda similar to Frankenstien's whole vibe.
Forkle's unending quest for social change in the lost cities without using moral responsibility (in no world is Sophie's creation a moral and just thing, sorry), leading to him never being an accepted member of society (his wanderling tree grows alone on a fjord and not with the rest of his people) can kindaaaa relate to how Victor's unending quest for scientific discovery, again, without moral responsibility, leads to his and his family's ultimate destruction. Forkle and Frankenstein both start with F too lol. Also, It's Sophie and the Monster who constantly face criticism for literally just existing, but Neither Forkle nor Frankenstein truly get shunned from society for creating them in the first place.
He's (or they're? idk how Forkle twins work) a lot more involved in Sophie's life than Victor was in the monsters life. But like the whole like listening in on Sophie's thoughts without her permission, constantly keeping secrets that she should be entitled to (her bio parents, her stolen memories, what exactly her abilities are, etc), and seeing Sophie as the Moonlark more than an actual person, makes it a good AU in my opinion. Sophie would get fed up with Forkle constantly involving himself in her life and like using her, and do something crazy. If you couldn't tell I really don't like Forkle lol. The monster accidentally kills Victor's little brother in the book, and Maria in the 1931 film adaptation, so maybe Sophie accidentally kills one of the forkle twins and everyone deems her a monster.
Tiergan can be the one who sympathizes and understands her plight, since he's one of the few Black Swan members who treats her more like a student than a force of change. He's on the collective which is close enough to reflect Elizabeth's relationship to Victor. This implies Forkle x Tiergan tho so idk. In the movie (Spoilers?) Elizabeth is getting married to Victor's brother and Victor is in love with her or something, so Victors brother can be Prentice? I Guess?? But that means the AU would be movie specific, and if it's based on the book, then we have a very different dynamic. Idk who Clerval would be, Forkle doesn't rlly have friends. Could be another member of the collective. Preferably not Juline, so there can be homoerotic tension just like in the book.
There's also the question of why Forkle creates Sophie. It wouldn't just be to prove that he could create life, It would have to be for some higher purpose. So Sophie becomes a useful tool or weapon for Forkle to execute his goals. Maybe she's not given an education or much attention. Would she get a name, because the Monster didn't. Her 'name' could be Moonlark, and Tiergan could be the one to name her, if the story pans out that way.
Additonally, there'd the whole thing with the monster's desire for a companion like him, because he is an unnatural creation and is thus completely alone. He is the only one of his kind, the first and last of his species. he is not human, he is only ever almost human. Like how Sophie see's herself as an almost elf, or an experimentation, and not a normal elf. Anyways, the monsters one true desire is for someone to connect with. I feel like Sophie is also very alone and isolated in mind at least, because of her upbringing as a human, her status as the Moonlark, and her deeply ingrained insecurities. I think her desire to fit in society and not be all important can be repurposed as the monsters desire for human connection and understanding. That can kinda bring in the Bride of Frankenstein concept, who really can't be anyone other than Keefe. I'm ngl I've loved Frankenstein for a long, long time and my thoughts on sokeefe Frankenstein AU is literally the reason I enjoy sokeefe at all.

To my knowledge no one has done a comprehensive Frankenstein au or kotlc analysis, and if they did, it's since been deleted. But! I think you're right that there's a lot that lends itself well here
Especially, like you're talking about, the deep dive into the dynamic between Forkle and Sophie! It's often not fully explored in canon, but it is such a deeply selfish and unethical thing to have done--and the reasoning of different perspective simply does not justify it. Creating a person is an act of hubris both Forkle and Frankenstein share, which Sophie and Frankenstein's monster reap the consequences of.
I really like the idea of Sophie chaffing under his control and lashing out and killing one of the twins. You could maybe extend this out to the Black Swan as a whole as Forkle's "family" that is slowly destroyed by the monster. Maybe it starts with other members and the climatic final death is the Forkle twin? that does kind of make Forkle and Forkle Victor and Elizabeth though, which could be strange. Depends
I'm also struggling with Clerval, though. Someone he cares about deeply but also lives in moral opposition. For some reason my first thought was Calla, because of her morals (though her participation in project moonlark also unfortunately makes her grey) and kindness, but that's still not the best fit. And its also not homoerotic
As for the why of it all (Forkle's motivation). I suppose the question comes back to what does Sophie prove. She proves humans and human perspective have value--wild way to prove it when he could've just. Consulted a human, but it proves it. Perhaps that could be where the bastardization and hubris comes in? Creating a hybrid life (not genetically, but socially of two worlds) to prove a point that could've been made a thousand other ways. I feel like, for Forkle's goals, Sophie would get an education. Human and elven, so that she could have that perspective to share with the elves--so a tainted education because she knows it's not for her sake, but to serve a cause.
And then!!! God you are SOOO right that a Sophie/Frankenstein's monster comparison re: social isolation works soooo well. Sophie has been desperate to feel like she belongs the entire goddamn series. They're both one of a kind, no matter how much the people around them try to say otherwise (just because sophie's 100% genetically elf doesn't mean she's elf, you know?)
I don't think Sophie would demand another moonlark be made, since it hurt her so much and she has strong morals. She could never subject anyone else to it--which does raise the question of what does she demand of Forkle in the end that he doesn't/can't give her. To unmake her? To turn her into someone normal?
With Keefe as the bride, the other abnormal elf, you could kinda try a route of Keefe being a little more under his mother's thumb (not that he agrees with her, just that he's more stuck with her/under her control) and Sophie wanting very badly to get him/to reach out to him, and Forkle saying no because of the risk of Gisela. But that's just an idea I'm throwing out.
Anyway! My point in all of this is that I think you're right and there is sooo much potential here, I am very interested in your ideas
there’s a lot of calico versions (which is why i was reminded of the koi fish hair) but i was more or less talking about this style (kind of?? scene?? in a weird but cool pattern) with like a less reddish more orangish but still sharp orange? man sophie can have a mane and he can have this and they can be wildly unrelated animals together (OR if you want to you can even give him a rat with our without the koi fish hair (i personally draw him w one ALL THE TIME bc rat tails are wacky and he’s trying to be like his father and wear a (unpopular) human hairstyle for TRIPLE WACKINESS!! or something)

Churel Biana for my KOTLC monster high au! She has vampire blood in her system from Alden’s side of the family, but she’s not a full blooded vampire like him and Fitz; she takes after her mother.
Full disclosure I gently traced the body of my reference image (under cut) to determine where to place her clothing in the mirror. I understand if that turns some people off of this or my art in general; I won’t be doing something this complicated again
+ her initial design that I couldn’t make myself love. I thought she looked too childish, and just not… Biana.
