Winter Auction 2012, Project 143 Update
Hello everyone! Jared here, it's crazy to think that it's almost December already! Prepare for the Mayan prophecy! (well, okay, not really. Since the Mayans didn't account for Leap Year, the end of the world should have been nine months ago. Oops.)
I wanted to give everyone an update on what we've been up to, in addition to the information on our annual winter auction. I wanted to write this particular blog because this auction is a very special one to me.
Over the past few years, I have had the amazing opportunity to meet and work with some of the most talented, hardworking and inspiring bands in show business. This year was a very big one for Project 143. One of the most prominent ways that I will try to get a band involved with Project 143 is to have them donate some merchandise. Usually a band will donate a few shirts, posters, or CDs (sometimes all three). We reserve the majority of the merchandise donation for any requests or letters we receive from patients, and then we'll save one or two of those items for use in our winter auction. (For example, let's say that All Time Low donated five t-shirts to us from one of their tours. We would save four of these specifically for patient requests, and set aside one for an auction purpose. Pretty straight forward.)
We have accumulated a mass amount of merchandise from many artists throughout the throughout the past three to four years. While I have saved all of this merchandise and set it aside specifically for fulfilling patient requests, we have learned that most of the patient requests we've received have been more towards artists that we are still trying to establish a connection with, such as Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Lil' Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake, etc. We have been able to use some of this merchandise for requests, but a majority of it has unfortunately been sitting here and collecting dust. This is where you, our supporters, come in.
We have decided that we are going to auction off a majority of our inventory of autographed merchandise. We are going to let the fans of the music and supporters of this organization bid on some very exclusive and amazing items we received over these past few years. We believe this will put this merchandise to much better use than just sitting around and not going to anyone. The money generated from this auction will be able to help us fulfill many more patient requests for artists that we are still working to reach out to (i.e., purchasing tickets for patients to attend a Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift concert, purchasing V.I.P. passes for patients to meet these artists, etc.)
I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to every single band, artist, business person, crew member, fan and supporter that has taken the time to help out Project 143 since our inception. It's because of you that we are still standing and we can't thank you enough.

We are very excited to include these items in our auction and we can't thank you enough for taking a chance on our organization. To the bands: your donation went to a great cause and you're truly helping us do something that will absolutely help the teenage patients and survivors that our organization serves to help.
