See? I was kind of laughing because I don't care about Ferran and I like it when people show their true colours and I can throw that in their fans' faces when they annoy me but ...BUT! I never answer anons, but I just had to answer this one.

If it was “just a cap” why are the White House, MAGA accounts, and Fox News proudly using his image? Why are the very people who have spent years demonizing immigrants, spreading racism, and fueling hate celebrating it?

That’s the point.

You can argue about his intentions all day long. It doesn’t change who saw themselves represented in that image. It doesn’t change who’s using it as propaganda. And it certainly doesn’t undo the message it sends to immigrants and to everyone who’s spent years fighting for equality and equal rights.

And please stop with the whole “he’s just a dumb footballer” argument. Being a footballer doesn’t mean someone is above criticism or unaware of the impact their actions can have. These are public figures with millions watching them, and their choices carry weight.

my last post about this topic but we should not dismiss ferran’s MAGA cap as a silly joke because this is what the hateful right-wing party in spain has been saying since 2018:

it might be a joke or mocking trump (i doubt it is but i also don’t think it is related to vox) however we need to put it in context.

the ferran of 2 months ago could do this and have it be forgotten because he didn’t have that spotlight on him. this wc has already brought him enough attention but now? now he is going down in history. he is going to be the idol of a new generation of kids. the kids who will see the kind of racists “patriots” who are rejoicing in this gesture and think, well if my hero says it’s okay, it must be! the same “patriots” who believe the player who gave the assist, nico, isn’t even a “proper” spaniard.

you and i both know how easily influenced kids are especially when they look up to you and who else to look up to but the guy who brought them gold after 16 years?

i don’t think it was done maliciously and i am still a ferran fan but i am very disappointed in it. i don’t worship these players. i don’t think he is a raging racist but he is careless and mindless which can cause even more misunderstandings than being open about your political stance.
