Two kids got swept out by the current earlier today. Water is still super murky from all the heavy rains so it’s making the search more difficult. It’s getting dark so we’re headed in now. Governor Ige wants the public to believe the Mauna Kea protectors are messy and dangerous, when in fact it’s the exact opposite.

Protectors have provided portable bathrooms and have an agreement with the company to have them emptied twice a day. There’s also a recycling tent and a dumpster for trash, and every time a truck arrives with supplies it leaves with a load of garbage for the dump. The areas are clean and well kept at all times.

In addition to all of this, protectors have even provided their own team of trained medics to tend to kupuna, disabled, and anyone else in need.

The law enforcement van broke down and guess who jumped in to help push? Yup, the Mauna Kea protectors.

Our protectors are thoughtful, considerate, organized, compassionate, inclusive, and full of love. That’s what should be remembered.

*YouTube Video Link in Bio* Had the privilege to speak at the first Fautasi Heritage Symposium. As the only young adult presenting, I tried my best to properly capture what fautasi racing means to us. For months leading up to race day, there are countless individuals in each respective village who unite together and better assist their crew. Numerous government leaders and community organizers play a role behind the scenes to help ensure this annual flag day race continues each year. But there are also so many rowers who never get a chance to fully voice their thoughts within their village or across our local island community. In order to help better and perpetuate this cultural art form, a few changes need to be addressed now. Hopefully this 3 day event stimulates some future changes for the ultimate betterment of the art of fautasi season.
