in 1994 when green day first became famous, they invited pansy division, an openly gay punk band, to open for them for the entire dookie tour knowing full well the responses would be mixed. in 2016/2017, on their revolution radio tour, green day chose only female led punk bands to open for them to help create recognition for these artists in a male dominated scene. this band has always been using their voices for the right reasons and i love them so much for that.
And Against Me! Is opening for them too! A band fronted by a trans woman! Fuck yeah Green Day
If I’m not mistaken, there was a prom somewhere that was cancelled one time because a lesbian couple wanted to go, so Green Day rented a venue and had a prom for them. Not sure about accuracy, my mom told me about that
yes this is true as well!! green day helped to fund and organize this second prom when the first one was cancelled. the second prom was actually open not only to the students of the school, but also to any other lgbtq+ students as well as supporters in the state of mississippi who wanted to attend as well!!
Billy Joe Armstrong once literally leapt into the crowd at Green Day show and drop-kicked a guy who wouldn’t leave a girl alone.
This exemplifies how do to representation right. Being a straight ally doesn’t mean creating things for LGBT+ people. Its about giving those who are already creating a better stage.
He’s not a “straight ally” he’s bisexual.
This is how kids reacted when they were shown same-sex marriage proposal videos. Kids these days.
“how will we explain homosexuality to our children” I think maybe they should explain it to you

just gonna leave this here
here is a twitter thread and constantly updating, currently active google doc that contains the gofundmes, paypals, cashapps, etc of victims of anti-asian hate crimes, asian-owned small businesses, and asians who need financial aid. please consider donating & boosting and adding more donation links if you have them.
We finally have the names of all the victims who were slain in the Atlanta shootings.
Soon Jung Park, 74
Hyun Jung Kim, 51
Suncha Kim, 69
Yong Ae Yue, 63
Xiaojie Tan, 49
Daoyou Feng, 44
Delaina Ashley Yaun, 33
Paul Andre Michels, 54
Ever since the coverage of the shootings began, I’ve been obsessively checking the news for updates on the victims. The name and the image of the shooter were plastered EVERYWHERE, but nothing about the victims. It took THREE DAYS for us to learn all of the victims’ names.
Something like a dam burst inside me once the final names were released and I couldn’t stop crying. 6 of the women were Asian immigrants. They were somebody’s mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, grandma. They could have been MY mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, grandma. I see their names and I think of how much they must have given up to come to America and how much xenophobia and racism they endured, just like my own parents. My parents didn’t immigrate just for fun, they were escaping communism and they desperately wanted better opportunities for themselves and their families. These victims suffered so much to earn a place in American society and now it’s been cruelly taken away.
Unfortunately, their families will continue to feel pain and suffering despite the victims’ best attempts to provide them better lives.
I don’t want to put qualifications as to why anyone should care about the pain the AAPI community is in right now. (ex. If you like kpop or anime or Asian cultures, you should support AAPIs!) Honestly, if you are a human being capable of basic sympathy and/or empathy, you should care. But the fact of the matter is, I see very, very little being shared about the shootings and I’m greatly disappointed in the kpop fandom. I know tumblr is not the place to be getting news, everyone is dealing with pandemic exhaustion, maybe people are trying to give grace to AAPIs and not talk over them, etc.
But like….just 2 days before the shootings, everyone was chatting about how racist the Grammys were by using BTS fans to get their ratings up, but refusing to give BTS an award (which is also a valid discussion). Where did everybody go?? You don’t have the ability to reblog a few support links here and there? You were ready to fight over the Grammys, but not for racial equality?
I’m truly astounded by the stifling silence and genuinely hurt by the kpop fandom. You guys know BTS is Asian, right? Or do you only view Asians as a source of entertainment and not actual people in your community??
To be honest, I’ve been struggling with processing my feelings with these recent events. Growing up, I was taught to suffer in silence. My parents would give advice like if you ignore the problem, it will eventually go away. Keep your head down, work hard, and you’ll get by just fine. Someone else always has it worse than you so don’t complain.
But at what point do we allow ourselves to acknowledge our pain and suffering? I’ve been called slurs and hit on by gross men with Asian fetishes and all I could really do was keep my distance so that they wouldn’t hurt me. In the back of my mind, I always knew something worse could happen to me than these seemingly minor incidents, but I never felt I had a “right” to be upset – you know, since I was still alive – until now. Until members of our community started dying. It’s unfortunate that the conversation about anti-Asian racism is only starting now, when we’ve been dealing with aggressions for the past 150+ years.
To my fellow AAPIs, I want you to know I am here for you and I acknowledge your pain. Thank you for reading this.
idk call me radical or crazy or whatever but people shouldn’t need a reason to care about human lives
all these posts like “if you listen to kpop / if you like anime / if you watch cdramas you should care about what’s happening right now” are SO tone deaf and weird. people, especially elders, are being attacked and murdered because of their race. that is why you should care. because human lives are being taken and it is wrong. an entire continent and its people should not be reduced to the commodities and entertainment they give to you for you to care about our lives. you should care about us because we’re human beings
ON TOP OF THAT that rhetoric is turning everyone’s attention to only east asians. yes, east asians are facing increased hatecrimes and racism. but so are south asians. so are north asians. so are west asians. so are pacific islanders. it’s so weird to focus your “activism” on the one group that you deem entertaining or whatever

I found these on a thread on twitter and thought that we should get it circulating here! (Source @/zenerations on insta)

Gaycation - “USA”
Nothing is funnier to me than all of Donald’s immediate neighbors unanimously going “you’re fucking intolerable, goodbye”
I know it’s pointless and no one who reads this blog both cares and doesn’t already know (also, no one reads this blog) but
It’s important to me that people know that D.C. is a major Democratic stronghold—in reliability if not in national influence—has been since the 23rd Amendment gave residents the right to participate in presidential elections, which only happened in 1961.
This is why D.C. statehood is seen as a partisan issue. You might not know it based on the jerks that govern here (most of whom vote in their home states and/or the suburbs in Virginia or Maryland), but the District has historically been heavily Black and not insignificantly queer (this is also the anti-minority “subtext” of a lot of “drain the swamp” calls)
Politically, the place is bluer than a Smurf taking Violet Beauregard to an Eiffel 65 concert. Its hypothetical Congressional representation could make AOC look like Mike Bloomberg.
Once again, the core premise of the Republican Party is “but… if people counted equally… that would be bad for us.”
I just think more people should know that.
DC has a bigger population than Vermont and Wyoming, and is on tract to be bigger than Alaska and both Dakotas.
DC is one of the blackest cities in America, and has one of the fastest growing Latinx communities in the country.
It is a crime that DC doesn’t have representation. The vast majority of people here do not work for the government and those who do are often bipartisan employees. We don’t even have final say over our budget and laws. We need the ability to vote in Congress, to have a say in our own affairs.
but I would also like to point out that DC is undergoing huge gentrification which is aided by the city leaders. Housing is unaffordable; not to mention our police force is incredibly corrupt. We still have high levels of gun violence as well, and a terrifyingly high Black Maternal Mortality Rate. Like everywhere in America we are people and our leaders have flaws and make bad decisions.
You shouldn’t be for DC Statehood because of the politics or the senate majority (even if those are good things as well), you should be for DC Statehood because our votes matter, our lives matter. Because we need to fix shit too, but how can we when we are on constantly shifting ground.
Opposition to DC statehood is just racism 🤷🏻♀️

Watch: In a powerful Congresional speech, Sandra Bland’s mother called people who think they’re woke “the walking dead” because of how little we still know
The speech included a rousing call to action before the newly formed Congressional Caucus On Black Women & Girls. And her words were incredibly resonant, even if you think you know the whole story.
