Big Ocean 빅오션 is a deaf K-pop group. My name is Lyn, and I am a deaf Pado 파도, a supporter of Big Ocean.

I picked Pado Lyn because I'm also a fan of Role-Playing Games like the Elder Scrolls and Dungeons and Dragons. In RPGs, paladins are the sworn defenders of the people. They are kind, honest, and brave.

It can be scary putting yourself out there as a deaf musician, especially since a lot of people don't even realize deaf people can enjoy music. I, too, didn't know that when I lost most of my hearing 🦻 when I was 26. I thought I'd never sing 🎤 or play piano 🎹 ever again 😥, but then I found other deaf musicians online 🎧and it pulled me out of a really dark place 🫶 You could say, it kept me Alive ✨

It's been well over a decade since I lost my hearing, but there haven't been many deaf singers, or performers in the spot light since, so when I found Big Ocean in 2024, I was delighted 💖

I would like to see this blog be both a Big Ocean fan page and also a deaf awareness and advocacy page.

Big Ocean 🌊 have been doing wonderful advocacy for deaf people around the world 🌍 They are very open about their experiences as deaf people, and they sign 🙌 as part of their choreography! 🕺🤟

I'm an American living in San Antonio, Texas, but I have a strong appreciation for Korea (the music, the dramas, the horror films, the myths, the food, the beautiful landscape, the climate with 4 distinct seasons 🍁❄️🌸🏖️, the culture, and the language). I am learning Korean, so I will try to include Korean versions as well as English when I can.

I'll also post in Spanish, German, and French. I want to be assured this blog is Safe for Work, so I'm only posting in languages I'm proficient in.

I'm also pretty tech savvy, so I might be able to add a few fun features here 💻🪄

I hope the joy that Big Ocean has brought me can ripple out from here 🩵🤟

"Here’s another little tidbit: I came out [from a session], and they had put out food for all of us, and it just happened to be Mexican food, and I just happen to be Mexican, but I was busy doing multiple things. I was completely bummed out when I walked out and everybody had done smashed all the food and there was nothing left but like salads and a couple nachos. And [the members of Big Ocean] asked me, “Hey, did you eat?” and I’m like, “No,” and they all kind of scrambled together and they ran across the street to get me food! Here comes Haley and some of the other members with all this food, and they’re saying, “Here, you eat!” and I’m like, “Oh my god!” It’s gotta be the coolest thing that anybody has ever done for me — because it’s always been the other way around, always been the producer and me making sure everybody’s good and, “You didn’t get food, I’ll run and get it!” I’m always taking care of the artist to make sure that the experience is amazing; never did I ever have anyone — especially K-POP royalty like them — freak out and [make sure I got to eat.]"

also I now have a complex about pronouncing Korean foods 😰, like 김밥, 고추장, & 라면 because if that's how the Korean versions of English words sound to me, how must I sound to them? 😳😶‍🌫️ I may never speak again 😅
