Vlad typically didn't do things like this. It made memories come to the surface. It had taken time, talking to others and looking at his armor for a long time. He was going to do it. He was going to a Ren Fair. He had made sure that his armor complied with the rules as well as the sword he would be bringing. Being able to manipulate the weather certainly helped as he made it a cloudy day.
What was even better this fair also had night events. Spending the day getting a feel for things he actually was able to relax. He met many people and allowed a couple photos. When night fell it seemed a lot more activities came about as well as... the more rowdy crowd.
Moving through events he eventually stops at one. A duel event? He looked at the rules then the people. His eyes do eventually land on one individual. He was rather enthusiastic, more than most and it was amusing.

" Oh yes. History is such a thing of beauty and devastating life. So much good came of it,but also bad. I enjoy learning and seeing what all there is from not only my homeland but the whole world." Watching the man before him he truly was intriguing. Humans would always fascinate him. Apon hearing his name he repeates it." Lorenzo... I like it."
" Im glad they decided to change the theme this time. Or I'd be halfway across the country." He had only found a couple that had interested him. He could tell there was something on the others mind. " Is something on your mind?"
“History has been my primary field of study for many years,” Lorenzo replied, glad that he’d read the man right. “I specialize in weapons, armor, and combat tactics from the renaissance, but I believe there’s a great deal to be learned from looking back at all eras of the past.” Upon hearing his name coupled with such praise from the other, his cheeks flushed lightly. That odd floaty feeling in his stomach was being very persistent, and he found himself wondering when he’d last had a crush on someone. Surely, that wasn’t the case here…
Evidently, Vlad was good at reading him, too. “Nothing too pressing, don’t worry,” he answered, trying to play it cool. “I just have a bit of free time before the closing show for the night, and was wondering if maybe you wanted to get a drink before the tavern closes. With me, I mean. A drink with me.” A nervous smile spread across his face, and he awkwardly ran a hand through his golden curls. So much for playing it cool…

do you remember what i told you last time?
have you been doing well since i saw you?
that's not what you told me back then.
when was the last time i saw you?
you were shorter then.
i'm picking the restaurant this time.
we've known each other since we were children.
always knew i could count on you.
that time was different. this is worse.
you're not going to let me live that down, are you?
i seem to remember a conversation we had back then.
so you changed your mind about it?
do you remember our encounter in paris?
you should know me by now.
am i the only one that knows the truth?
we had a lot of help back then.
your mom told me to look out for you.
you just love bringing that back up to annoy me.
maybe don't mention my past indescretions?
this was never going to work out between us.
i told you not to get attached.
i know more about you than you think.
i was there, remember?
i'm not about to forget all the shit you put me through.
you told me you were going to try and make this work.
remember what i said to you?
the last time i saw you, things were good between us.
you never mentioned this before.
that was the longest flight of my life, and you made it worse.
can i still trust you after all that?
at least we tried to make something work.
we never discussed what happened between us.
okay, but i'm driving the car this time.
i haven't forgotten what you said last week.
i'm still thinking about your comment.
i didn't realize it was you when i first saw you.
you seem to make a lot of enemies around here.
there's not much for us to talk about.
we worked it out last time.
i know you far better than you know yourself.
we have a long history.
is that the shirt you were wearing last time?
what don't i know about you?
i haven't told them about us.
you were the only person i could go to.
you know me.
this is bigger than both of us.
i can't stand your driving.
are you taking me to the place we had dinner last time?
that's not at all what you said.
didn't we agree on that?
i thought i made it very clear where i stand.
are these the same people that came after you last time?
are you still going on about it?
can we talk about it?
staying silent about it won't help.
you're the only person who knows the real me.
this is a bad time to talk about your problems.

Vlad only nods as they make their way and get into fighting stances. Soon they were fighting. Swords clashing, blocking, ducking and it was something Vlad was enjoying. Ofcourse Vlad was very much so testing to see how far he could go with the man. He was very much well trained with a sword... for centuries. Been in wars and so much more.
The other was a good fighter, definitely gifted and could even improve with the right training. Vlad moved with grace, speed and intelligence. Its like he could predict Lorenzos moves before they were happening, but it was just body language and skill.
Vlad moves in to attack.
However much experience Lorenzo had, both in stage combat and in actual fencing, this man clearly had leagues more. He was catching the blond on his back foot more often than not, and while Lorenzo had been holding his own, he couldn’t keep it up for much longer. He was growing tired, and realized with a start that Vlad had somehow managed to back him into a corner. How had that happened?!
That moment of lost focus was all it took for Vlad’s next attack to disarm him, leaving Lorenzo stunned and the crowd absolutely losing their minds. “I yield,” he uttered, raising his hands in defeat. “You have bested me this evening, good sir.” A feat that made a strange bubble up in his gut as he looked up at the rather imposing and handsome figure before him.
Vlad didn't win to rub it in his face or be rude. No. He was doing it for fun. Upon hearing his words he stops and offers him his hand to help him up. When Lorenzo was back on his feet he also picks up his sword offering it back to him. " I may have bested you but you were a worthy opponent." He ment that too. The other he could tell enjoyed what he did.
That strange feeling only grew more intense when Vlad praised him and helped him up. He ignored it, as well as the burning sensation in his cheeks, and accepted the aid and his sword with a gracious smile. He wasn’t embarrassed; if anything, he was excited to have met someone with such incredible talent, and longed for a chance to talk to him out of character.
“I am honored to have met my match,” he replied, remembering at that moment that they were being watched. Turning to the crowd, he grinned and raised his voice. “A round of applause for our victor, everyone!” The audience cheered and clapped, and Lorenzo bowed to Vlad for a bit of added flair. Once they filtered away, however, he dropped character and approached Vlad with a more genuine smile. “Man, that was really impressive! Are you a trained fencer, too? I’ve never found one by accident while working this gig, so you were definitely a pleasant surprise.”
Vlad chuckles lightly, he could get used to such events like these. Vlad gives the crowd a wave and was glad once things seemed to calm down. Vlad returns the sword to the table and soon meets the man's eyes before relaxing. " I am. Im trained with a few of these weapons actually." He motions to the table with the foam weapons. He could feel the others excitement coming off him in waves.
Moving away from the table he has his focus fully on the other. " This is actually one of the first Ren Fairs ive been too. Im enjoying it. Really makes me think this was what it could have been like for those in the past." His eyes watch as other move by dressed as jesters, kings, peasants and others of the past.
“Good to know we’re doing our jobs well,” Lorenzo responded with a grateful laugh. “Don’t get me wrong, we’re not a hundred percent historically accurate, but we do strive a little more for entertainment.” He returned his rapier to the table as well, since his duel with Vlad would likely be his final individual performance for the night.
“I don’t usually meet people as skilled as you outside of HEMA,” he added, sizing the other man up properly for the first time since they’d met. Hazel eyes lingered on the detailed dragons embossed on Vlad’s armor, narrowing slightly in vague recognition. “Actually, a few of the guys in my chapter and a couple of the professors I consult for at my day job would be very interested in where and how you got your armor. It’s stunning! Like something I’ve seen in certain historical texts…can’t recall which ones specifically at the moment, but I’m sure it’ll come to me eventually. That’s actually why I picked you out of the crowd.” Enzo finally caught himself staring and forced himself to meet the other man’s gaze.
Big mistake.
Or not, depending on how one looked at it.
Vlad was a vision, and Lorenzo was starting to get that odd feeling in his core again. “I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself here. Hopefully, it means you’ll come back and visit again,” he remarked, trying to remain professional and failing miserably. A smirk worked its way onto his face despite his best efforts. “And perhaps afford me the pleasure of a rematch.”
This was something he knew he might bump into. He would have to lie. He couldn't tell the man it was authentic. " As much as id love for this to be authentic, its not real of course. It took me a very long time and research to find someone to do this for me. Took them almost a year to get all the details. It was very much worth the money, and if i remember someplace in transylvania." There were a lot of people that were blacksmiths there. So if the man did decide to go looking it would take some time. " If they take an order its not going to be quick."
Vlad tilts his head lightly as he too looked into Lorenzos eyes. They were stunning. " I believe i will return. The people and atmosphere definitely make the trip worthwhile." A smile returns to his lips at the others challenge. " Ill gladly take you up on it. Might I ask you your name?"
“Transylvania.” Now he knew he’d read about armor like that before! But where… “Makes sense. I was thinking it was fifteenth century Eastern European, but I couldn’t quite place it. I’ll have to brush up on my research when I have some free time.” He was a little disappointed in himself for not clocking that earlier, but more than anything, he was intrigued by the fact that Vlad had cared enough to have such a specific replica made. “I’m guessing that you also share my fascination with history?” Frankly, Enzo would be shocked if he didn’t. That kit would have been incredibly expensive to commission just for a ren fair.
He caught Vlad’s gaze again, reveling for a brief moment in the fondness of it, and thought he felt his heart skip a beat. “Oh. Oh! My god, I totally forgot to introduce myself! Sorry. Lorenzo. My name’s Lorenzo Salazar. My friends call me Enzo, though.” Or they would, if he allowed himself to have any. “And around the fair, I’m known as Mercutio for this fall festival we’re doing, or D’Artagnan during the spring. Normally, the fair is themed around The Three Musketeers, but they wanted to switch it up a little this time around.” And if anyone heard him breaking character like this, he’d probably get a talking to, but he didn’t care. They were getting ready to wind down for the night, anyway. He had about half an hour before the closing show, which would feature an ill-fated duel between him and the monsters that had been lurking throughout the night. Part of him wanted to ask if Vlad wanted to get a drink with him before he had to go, but he found himself hesitating. Would that really be a good idea?

This year was the first year that his troupe had done a fall Renaissance Fair in addition to their usual spring one, as well as their first year staying open after dark, and Lorenzo was pumped! As much as he’d loved playing D’Artagnan, this new character was an exciting one, closer to his own personality, and he was enjoying playing him immensely. Especially when it meant that he got to challenge random fair goers to mock duels in the streets. Not with actual steel, of course. That would be irresponsible and dangerous, even if he was toning down his skill. The fair had recently acquired some decently realistic looking foam replicas, and the guests were enjoying them almost as much as Lorenzo and his colleagues.
In keeping with his arrogant, anti-nobility character, Lorenzo usually challenged those with fancy clothes or armor, calling them to test their mettle against him. This guy, however, had the most elaborate and detailed armor he’d seen yet, and the historian in him was instantly struck with a desire to know how and where the stranger had gotten such exquisite pieces! He was a perfect target. The blond smirked and slipped back into character.
“And who is this brave knight who graces our presence?” he crowed, hailing the man over to the dueling ground. “Another high and mighty lord come to flaunt his wealth against the common folk, aye? Look how he shines in the moonlight!” He laughed, feigning bitterness, and the quickly gathering crowd cheered. Fixing the man with an insufferable grin, he gestured to the rack of foam weapons behind him with the rapier he favored. “Very well, care to test your measure against a man of the people? Prove your superiority?” He was bullshitting for dramatic effect, of course, but the crowd was eating it up.
Vlad cant help but smile a bit. Oh how he missed the days like this. When his people would joke and tease him just for a little rumble. Those days... we're gone. He couldn't think about that now. This man had challenged him! " Im Vlad Dragomir and you have challenge an opponent i hope ye can match. Superiority. No. I wish to see what skills you possess."
With that he moves to the table of weapons and grabs the imperial sword. It wasent real of course, they didn't need to draw blood here. In his hands he looks at it saying," This will do." Looking the man in the eyes he says," Let's see what you really can do."
What a bold claim to make, Lorenzo thought, but he grinned nonetheless. Perhaps he was being too cynical, and this bout would last longer than his previous duels. He’d had to hold back against most of his opponents because they were either novices or varying levels of drunk, and was looking forward to a bit of a challenge. “Those are some boastful words, Sir Dragomir,” he taunted, moving into his signature fighting stance. “I look forward to seeing you back them up! En garde!”
The duel, as he’d hoped, wasn’t easy for once. In fact, he really didn’t have to hold back. Vlad’s skill with a blade was shockingly advanced. More so than even his own. For the first time since he’d started working the fair, Lorenzo was actually struggling, and not in the way that he always pretended to when dueling brave children. If things kept going the way they were, he’d likely lose!
