The king of underground horror reviews, Dave Parker AKA Mrparka, posted a vid about his Wasteland pick-ups. What did he think of Pain Shack?

It was amazing to meet our friends Johnny, Lily and Nick in person at Cinema Wasteland. We’ve made some great friends online over the years and we hope to meet up with more in the future.
When we came back after our three-year hiatus from posting vids, we didn’t know if anybody still remembered us. The warm welcome we’ve received has been more than encouraging. We feel like characters in a Charles Dickens story or something.
Johnny wrote us a letter from Japan when he was stationed there around six years ago. We still have that letter and we cherish it. It was great to finally be able to shake his hand.
Lily and Nick have been friends of ours for years. It was so chaotic at Wasteland that we forgot to get a picture with them and then we kicked ourselves all day afterward. So they sent us this pic instead.
We’re grateful to all those who have appreciated RSStB. We’ve done this work for you. That’s why it’s important for us to maintain these friendships. It’s not about us, it’s about community. That’s what Pain Shack is about.

Promoting Pain Shack has been like 800 jobs in one. But it’s been a lot of fun. Last weekend we gave out 130 DVD screeners to the patrons at Cinema Wasteland. We’d always wanted to do that but we never had a reason to make the drive. When you’re working on a movie - or you want to be working on a movie - it’s hard to be in that kind of environment. Thankfully we have Pain Shack. We’ll be at Motor City Nightmares in Novi, MI, on Saturday, April 25th, and then Slaughter in Syracuse in Syracuse, NY, on Saturday, July 11th, where friend of RSStB James Bell will be premiering his new film Tantrum (and it’s a doozy!).

The movie Scrapbook by Eric Stanze, written by the late Tommy Biondo, was the only film we used as an acting reference while filming Pain Shack (we were also inspired by Jack Nicholson in The Shining but we never looked at any specific scenes), and there was only one scene we looked at. We’ve always had this film in mind when making Pain Shack, but when our story turned into a parody of Noodleman, our movie became less Scrapbook and more something else. However, during Scrapbook’s infamous table scene, Emily Haack, playing Clara the hostage, makes an expression where she closes her eyes and exhales and we had to include something like it in Pain Shack. It’s subtle and brief and the worst acting we’ve ever seen.

What is Pain Shack?
It’s a micro-budget feature-length horror/comedy film by Marissa and Alex Murphy, creators of the web-series RSStB.
Where can I see it?
The original serialized installments are online at the YouTube channel RickyShoreSings. A final re-edit of the complete film will be released in due time.
How will the final edit of Pain Shack be released?
The filmmakers aren’t quite sure yet. They’re exploring distribution options and researching underground film festivals and horror cons.
Will the final edit be different from what was uploaded to YouTube?
Yes, it’ll be a little different. Some material was cut, new material was shot, some scenes re-filmed, etc.
Will there be a deluxe edition of the DVD with lots of bonus features?
That’s always been the plan, but it’ll take Marissa and Alex a minute to assemble the necessary amount of bonus materials. They plan to record an audio commentary track, create a blooper reel and a behind the scenes featurette, assemble elaborate packaging materials, etc.
What’s Eigh8t the Chosen One’s involvement in Pain Shack?
The filmmakers met Eigh8t through YouTube. When Marissa and Alex announced years ago that they would be making a horror film, Eigh8t came on board as a producer.
What’s next for RSStB?
Marissa and Alex will continue to produce new installments of their web-series but for now they’re focusing the majority of their efforts on formally releasing Pain Shack. The next RSStB storyline will be feature-length, and could be another horror movie.
