A reads their books out loud to themselves, 'cause it helps them focus on that and not whatever's going on with their lives. B shares a wall with A and listens to the books, mostly because it's that or sleeping on the sofa and that thing is a breach of the Geneva Convention.

A's life goes to shit a bit, and when they show up back home a few days/weeks later, their neighbour B, who they've not talked to before, keeps starting increasingly weird conversations. B's trying to figure out the name of the book without coming out with a 'hey listen i'm no creep but i listen to you speak to yourself in the privacy of your own home and i wanna know the end of that book you were reading, what's it called please?'. Needless to say, B is pathetically failing at appearing normal.

But they do end up finding out how the book ends, maybe with a front row seat this time.

      “ Just   a   C?! ”   The   smugness   falls   from   his   face   quicker   than   a   hundred   pound   stone,   eyes   going   wide   in   disbelief.   Tony   looks   around,   just   to   make   sure   that   he’s   actually   seeing   a   rather   well   maintained   and   guarded   building,   despite   the   fight,   and   turns   to   her   once   more.   “ Why   a   C?   The   only   thing   I   broke   was   a   window!   That   deserves   at   least   a   B! ”   Is   he   being   a   bit   petulant   and   show-offish?   Absolutely   he   is,   but   he   had   hoped   to   impress   Maria   at   least   more   than   the   cold   shoulder   and   even   colder   glare   he’s   receiving   right   at   that   moment.
