Oh yeah, got this guy a few months ago. Classic hunter set, favorite weapons... perfect.
Huh, I just had a fight with Yharnam in which she decided not to do even a single clone phase. As the end of the standard dungeons she’s probably my least-fought boss in the game, but that was new to me. Maybe staying in her face can dissuade her from doing the annoying thing.
Ugh, too many rumors and leaks to manage in the span of a few days. All I’ll say about the idea of a remaster is, it’d better not be a Dark Souls Remaster situation where textures and effects are cheapened to improve performance. General performance improvement is of course fine, even some quality of life stuff may be fine, but anything outside of that would be questionable at best. I just want Bloodborne, not some third party studio’s idea of how they could “improve” Bloodborne.
(it would probably get me to grab a ps5 regardless but don’t tell sony that)
Huh, Tim Rogers has actually teased its existence, and the likelihood that it’ll be announced at some Sony thing soon. Maybe slightly more credible than the usual rumor..?
Another day, another PS5 remaster rumor...

It turns out there’s something iffy about the leak that specifically mentioned “Project Velvet Veil” as a spiritual successor to Bloodborne. That leak isn’t well substantiated, but it did draw attention to a far more reliable bit of info from the leaker who confirmed the nature of Dark Souls III DLC, Sekiro, and Elden Ring before their respective announcements: that around mid-2017, From did indeed begin development on a Sony exclusive, and that, based on later comments from Miyazaki, this was a Soulsy title. The specifics of the “Velvet Veil” leak may be unsubstantiated for some time, since a new title is unlikely to be announced before the release of Elden Ring, but I stand by the idea that this Sony exclusive may build on some of Bloodborne’s ideas due to the way From makes increasingly refined games with previous mechanics and concepts.
Vaguely Irrational Madman’s Knowledge that Suggests to Crazy People the Idea that it isn’t Impossible that Bloodborne 2 or Something Similar is Currently in Development:
Exhibit 1:
https://www.pcgamesn.com/sekiro-shadows-die-twice/from-software-2-unannounced-games
Sometime between 2016 and the release of Sekiro, two “From Software-esque” games (i.e. Soulsy games) were in development. One of those turned out to be Elden Ring, and the other is still unannounced.
Exhibit 2:
Between the release Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne, From signed a three-game exclusivity deal with Sony. They would make three games that would release exclusively on Sony consoles, Bloodborne being the first to fulfill this deal. Deracine may or may not count as the second, but regardless, there’s at least one more game that From will make for them. It may not be unrealistic to consider that the Soulsy game that began development between Dark Souls III and Sekiro was conceived as one of these Sony exclusives. Considering Miyazaki considers Dark Souls complete for now, and Elden Ring is a Bandai Namco venture, the Soulsy game in the background being a Sony title actually seems rather realistic.
Exhibit 3 (or, “Isn’t Bloodborne Complete Too?”):
Well, maybe it is, but also maybe not. Miyazaki didn’t seem keen on jumping onto another sequel when Dark Souls III came out, but this mystery project apparently began development sometime after that point. Furthermore, he admits that the decision to do a Bloodborne sequel belongs just as much to Sony. So what can we read about the situation and how people feel about more Bloodborne?

Unlike claims about Dark Souls and Sekiro being complete or finished products, the mood at From about more Bloodborne when the Old Hunters came out was, “no specific plans at the moment.” Corporate-speak, but a very different tune from “nope this is it, it’s done.” Also, while it was confirmed to be harmless fun, a Bloodborne easter egg was added to Deracine around the time when this mystery project may have begun development, just out of the devs’ fondness for Bloodborne. And what was Miyazaki’s favorite game to work on (or even favorite game overall)? Bloodborne.
Exhibit 4 (Disjointed Observations about From’s Dev Style; or, Where are the Trick Weapons??):
It’s never been more apparent than with Elden Ring that From Software thrives on building off of their previous ideas to make increasingly refined games. Dark Souls used what they learned from Demon’s Souls to make a bigger, more complete game and Elden Ring is taking everything they learned from all their games to make the “culmination” of their work, not even shying away from integrating systems from Sekiro into their dark fantasy epic. So where are the trick weapons? Or the regain mechanic? Or Miyazaki’s love of Lovecraft? Or an evolution of blood gems or Chalice Dungeons or any of these ideas that so far have only really featured in Bloodborne? Well, cynically, it’s probably related to the exclusivity thing with Sony. I don’t pretend to know how copyright works, but how bad would it look to Sony if they took unique console-selling mechanics like these and integrated them into their Bandai Namco or Activision games? Building off of these ideas can probably only happen in future Sony games and, seeing how From does indeed like to build and refine these things, and how well received Bloodborne’s combat and systems were, and how much they enjoyed working on it, either a Bloodborne sequel or a Bloodborne spiritual successor that employs and evolves these unique systems seems very much not out of the question. Even if the story or setting end up being different, I find it hard to believe that From is simply done with trick weapons–the opportunity to play with them again simply hadn’t come up until their next Sony game, which may just be coming down the pipe after Elden Ring. Don’t get hype since this is rather conspiratorial, but… have it in mind I guess..? Just let me dream of Bloodborne 2 dammit.
TWO DAYS LATER: There is a rumor/leak that From Software’s game following Elden Ring is a Sony exclusive called Project Velvet Veil, and that it’s a spiritual successor to Bloodborne. What timing.
Chalice dungeons are a blessing. I love procedurally generated dungeon scenarios WITH fun action combat. There are plenty of proc-gen dungeon-crawling roguelikes, but I can’t really stand run-based progress, and none of them have been particularly fun to me. Anyone know of any third-person action games with proc-gen/dungeon scenarios? As with chalice dungeons I don’t really need a lot of depth from it, the basic gameplay systems just need to be fun ya know?

how viable is a ‘hex’ (dark caster) build in dark souls 3? i know its kinda fucky cuz there’s no actual hex category but my plan is to start as pyromancer leveling int and faith and then use caitha’s chime and the izalith staff. and then just sorta use whatever dark sorceries/miracles or weapons seem fun lol. focus on PVE and co-op
That’s a perfectly good plan! Dark magic in general doesn’t do the absolutely absurd numbers it did in DS2, but if the plan is just PVE, co-op, and messing around then it doesn’t really matter. Some bosses with resistances might prove to be surprisingly tough, but no biggie if you’re familiar with the game. A dark magic run was one of my favorites in terms of the role-play, so be sure to make a cool character!
