Organic broccoli buns
You need: 1 organic broccoli 4 organic eggs 2 tsp husk fibers 4 tbs seeds (fx sunflower seed) 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking powder What to do: Grate the broccoli, mix it with the rest of the ingrediens. Form buns and bake them in the oven at 160 Celsius for approx. 20 min.
Yum! My favorite when I get cravings: Greek yoghurt (10%) with chia seeds, cinnamon, apple, berries and nuts. Add a little protein powder if you feel like it. If it's not sweet enough for you, add a splash of acacia honey.
"Spaghetti" Bolognese
I want to try this out soon!
Starchy vegetables are high in carbs, but very nice once in a while and a good alternative to French fries or potatoes.
Porridge: 2 eggs 1 dl full fat coconut milk (or cream) 1 tbsp coconut flour 1 tsp Husk fibers 2 tsp chia seeds (can be left out) 1 pinch of salt 2 pinches vanilla
Topping: Cinnamon Almonds 1 apple or berries Raisins Honey or agave sirup
1) mix together coconut milk and eggs in a pot at low heat. 2) add the other ingredients while stirring and turn up the heat. Be careful so it doesn't burn. 3) when the porridge has the right consistency, take it off and sprinkle with the toppings of your choice (The cinnamon and apples does it for me - otherwise I find the porridge too "coconutty"). Enjoy! Tip: if you have time for it, you can soak the chia seeds and leave it in the fridge overnight and then add it to your porridge. That'll make it more "creamy"/rounder.
As a part of my Natural Skin Care Experiment I tried on a natural, home made, very cheap facial mask today. The ingredients are: Honey, honey and honey!
You gently apply about 1 tsp of organic, high quality honey in a thin layer on your face. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and clean with lukewarm water. You can also leave a bit of honey on your pimples overnight to ease them up.
It felt a bit weird applying honey all over my face, but then it was actually kind of nice - no worrying about getting it too close to the mouth, nose or eyes and my skin feels fine afterwards.
The honey mask should be used approximately once a week and of course you should rinse your skin (preferably with some natural oil) before.
Hot Chocolate
I love my teas and I like to have a cup of coffee or sometimes a latte from time to time, but when it gets colder I cannot live without my hot chocolate. It just brings out the memories from when I was little and visited my grandmother, or when my mother had hot chocolate and whipped cream ready on a cold day after school.
Unfortunately the many choices from the super market is filled with sugar and other ingredients that (I think) should come with a big warning sign on it.
Therefore I googled around, experimented with different ingredients I had lying around, and found a nice mix. The recipe is for a basic hot chocolate the paleo/low carb/LCHF way. I've added some tips at the bottom for you to try out and find the variation you like the best.
I recommend using organic ingredients. Organic is often better quality, without a lot of E-numbers and I think it tastes better.
What you need:
2-4 tbs Unsweetened cocoa powder (Raw cocoa powder is prefered, but kind of expensive)
1-2 dl heavy (38%) cream (or 1/2-1 can full-fat coconut milk if you're non dairy)
1-2 dl water (depending on how thick you want it)
Honey/agave sirup/stevia/sukrin - the amount depends on how sweet you want it.
What to do:
Warm up all the ingredients except sweetener in a pot while stirring. Taste with sweetener (honey/agave sirup/stevia) and decide how sweet you want it. Add more cocoa powder if you like it strong.
The quick way: If you're in a hurry you can skip the pot and boil the water in a kettle and add less cream/coconut milk and just pour the mixture over the other ingredients in a cup and mix well.
Tips:
Add cinnamon/coffee/licorice powder/one or two pieces of 80% dark chocolate to give the hot chocolate a twist.
Add some butter or coconut oil.
Add whipped cream and sprinkle with 80% dark chocolate for a real treat.

This is what I use on my face
Make up remover: olive oil Toner: apple cider vinegar & water* Moisturizer: olive oil Morning routine: I spray my skin with some toner and moisture it with olive oil. I don't clean my skin in the morning. Liz (writer of the SkinterventionGuide) says that your skin is in a good natural balance in the morning. Night routine: I clean my skin with olive oil (yep - also eye make up). Then I tone and moisture with olive oil. I use a warm washcloth to put on my face before the cleaning and toner to open up the pores. *I use half/half to get rid of my acne. If it's to strong for you, use 1 part ACV and 8 parts water
This is what I’m using for my face, hair and body now. Liz from the Skintervention Guide calls it “the trinity”. The trinity consists of: - Apple Cider Vinegar - Baking Soda - Coconut Oil
Natural toothpaste = baking soda
Yep, you heard me right. You can use baking soda as a natural tooth paste AND your teeth will even get whiter!
I tried some different things with my home made toothpaste and this is my recipe (with inspiration from several blogs, yahoo answers and of course The Skintervention Guide)
My toothpaste:
2 tbs organic baking soda
1 tsp peppermint essence
1 tsp coconut oil
Mix it all together in a small container and dip you toothbrush in it. The peppermint gives it a more fresh taste that I like and the coconut oil makes it more "smooth".
With the above recipe you'll have toothpaste for a week or so (How cheap is that!?)
This is what I’m currently using for my skin. It wasn’t cheap! All of it will go in a box far away and I will not use it during my experience. I do need to check out if the Rudolph Care skin products are all right - they’re organic so they might be OK to use.
It will all be replaced with:
Coconut oil
Olive oil
Apple cider vinegar
Baking soda
Natural skin care
Okay, so the reason I posted a picture of cod liver oil (CLO) is because of my new hobby: Natural skin care.
I've decided to eat natural and real food and in my research on that I came across a couple of people recommending going all natural with natural skin (and body, hair and teeth) care... I googled around and researched the topic a bit more and stumbled upon Liz (from Cave Girl Eats) and her Skintervention Guide in a podcast by Jimmy Moore (From Living La Vida Low Carb). So I thought: Now that I'm eating natural, why not try to put natural stuff on my skin too?
I've had a combination of sensitive/oily/acne prone skin for ages and I had issues with big zits and acne when I was a teenager - I hoped it would get better, and it did, but I still get break outs, especially before my period. I have small scars on my cheeks from my teenager years and I have blackheads (especially on my nose). I've used a number of products promised to help me, but they never really lived up to their promise... According to Liz (Skintervention Guide) natural skin care helped her out and will (hopefully) help me and other people out - Pretty much no matter what skin type you have and which kind of problems you are struggling with.
I was a bit skeptical at first - I almost always are when presented to something new - I'm (almost) an academic, so I were taught to have empirical background and do my research properly. So I did. When I'd done my researched and had made sure that this Skintervention Guide and Liz were genuine, I bought her e-book (Skintervention Guide) and started reading...
The whole idea is that of course you start form the inside out with eating clean, natural, organic and real food, but that might not do the whole trick for you - you also have to treat your body with natural products to get the best results. For example this means that you can use organic coconut or olive oil as a moisturizer.
One of Liz' top advices is to start taking Cod Liver Oil. You can do that fermented (in capsules) or in oil form. I couldn't find any fermented CLO near my home so I went and bought some oil. I took 2 tsp today and I'm going to do this every day from now on.
I will take all my skin care product and replace them with natural ones. I don't know how long my experiment will go for (I'm thinking at least 4 weeks, hopefully longer if it works), and I promise to keep you updated and post info on natural facial masks etc.
