Intro to the Palimpstitch Project

I have been writing my whole life but when the love of my life broke my heart early in 2023 and I found myself broken, poetry became a significant part of my healing journey.

I now write every day, exploring themes of heartbreak, grief, voice, empowerment, feminism, personal strength, gender, power, healing and love. I also started experimenting with new ways to present my poetry.

My name, Palimpstitch, was born as I reflected on the idea of a universal female experience, stretching back through history and across the globe. I love the idea that these same themes play out in the day-to-day lives of women everywhere and in every time and that we are each building on the work and experiences of our ancestors. My love for thrifting and women's history collided with my love for embroidery and I began collecting discarded vintage needlework pieces. I restore them, mend them and then stitch my words onto them, making what I call a Palimpstitch Collage.

6 easy but necessary things to do after a big cry:

step 1. take a shower and change all of your clothes. prioritise soft and comfortable clothing for the rest of the day/night.

step 2. crying is super dehydrating, so get yourself a big glass of plain water and drink all of it. once you're done, get yourself a refill.

step 3. blow your nose, hard! it may be gross, but it will relieve the pressure in your sinuses and help to prevent a headache.

step 4. grab an easy snack that you don't have to prepare to get some of your energy back. cookies, pudding cups, yoghurt, fruits, or some crackers are all good choices.

step 5. get cosy in bed or your sofa and turn on something light, positive, and distracting. a show, movie, or music - whatever you want. you could even call a friend or just talk to a family member in the next room.

step 6. try to remind yourself that you're loved and important. you mean more than you know right now - maybe more than you will ever know. you deserve to feel better. you deserve to feel good. take your time, be gentle with yourself
