1-2-3 Done! Pumpkin Garland
A mini-pumpkin garland is a unique way to decorate your home this autumn. String the pumpkins on baling wire. It's strong and sharp enough to push through the pumpkins and flexible too. You can find it at hardware stores.

1-2-3 Done! Easy Pumpkin Puree
Here's a tip that makes it easy to scoop out a pumpkin for pies and soups. Poke holes in the pumpkin with a fork. Bake the pumpkin in a pre-heated 375° oven until softened. A 5 pound pumpkin will take about an hour. Remove the pumpkin from the oven and allow to cool. Slice across the middle and scoop out the flesh.
1-2-3 Done! Protect Your Bed
To protect your framed garden beds use hog wire to create a barrier from digging critters like your dogs. Use u-shaped nails to attach the wire to raised beds. Choose wire with fairly large spacing in which to allow room for planting.

1-2-3 Done! Using Shrubs Indoors
Green up the indoors with petite evergreen shrubs like these dwarf English boxwood. Wash off some of the soil to fit the shrub into a small container. This arrangement will last about a week before the shrubs need to be replanted outdoors.
1-2-3 Done! Hollyhock Doll
Here's an idea I picked up at Canterbury Shaker Village. It's a flower doll made from a hollyhock. 1. Cut a flower and a closed flower bud. Make sure the flower bud has a stem, about 1/2 inch is good. 2. Trim the stem off the flower and use a screw to make a hole. 3. Insert the bud stem into the hole and you are done!

1-2-3 Done! Apple Tablescape
Apples are a natural for decorating your table in autumn. Toothpicks inserted into the apples will help secure them into a stack. Place the apple stack in a shallow bowl and fill in around the base with small fruit such as crabapples.
1-2-3 Done! Croc Wall Pocket
You've long since given up on finding its mate, but that one sad Croc just keeps hanging around. Well, the rubber makes it weatherproof and the holes keep it from filling up with water, so why not repurpose it as a cubby for your favorite garden tool?
1-2-3 Done! Herb Garnishes
Make your meals special with garnishes grown in your garden. Leafy greens, sprigs of herbs and berries are an easy way to dress up a plate. To learn more about growing herbs and vegetables, visit BonniePlants.com.
1-2-3 Done! Wall Art
Every gardener experiences the passing of a shrub or tree. Before you toss it out, take a look at the bare form. It might just be a work of art worth hanging on a wall. Such is the case with this espaliered pear that succumbed to a fungus.

Tale of Two Farms Pumpkin Fest
Wow! What a weekend! Last Saturday was a big night at the Garden Home Retreat. We had 175 guests for a fabulous dinner prepared by North Carolina Chef Ashely Christensen. The meal was outstanding. Garden Home Retreat vegetables and lamb were served with bread and homemade butter. For dessert Ashley prepared a pumpkin bread pudding with dulche de leche and fresh whipped creme. Pictures to come!
