Christmas berry - Chironia baccifera
Chironia baccifera (Gentianales - Gentianaceae) is not only a highly ornamental plant, but also one that has many medicinal uses even though it is poisonous to stock. Native to South Africa, the Christmas berry has been used to treat several ailments in traditional South African medicine.
It has starry bright pink flowers, followed by attractive red berries that ripen at Christmas, hence its common name.
