I noticed that your breakfast (greek youghurt and cacao nibs) are so healthy! Have you tried smoothie diets or honey and water combo in the morning? It makes you feel so much better and also detoxified. I just saw your latest filipino food post. Oh god I just wanted to cook sisig! It's really not allowed for me because of health problems but I try to balance. But the crispier it is the more delicious sisig is! It's also sometimes with mayonnaise on top and it's tasty. Do alsoo love sweets? :D
Heeeelloooo again, and thank you for taking the time to write to me!
So, I love eating just about everything - sweets included! But, it is super important to consume in moderation (as much as I would love to constantly inhale as much food as Kirby does all the time).
Eating is an essential part of life and we live in a time where many people have easy access to food, thus we start consuming food not only for energy, but for pleasure.
Hydrating yourself in the morning is a great way to start your day whether you drink water with honey, tea, coffee, or smoothies! Honey definitely can be healthful and has many benefits backed by science. However, while honey is healthier than sugar and some other sweeteners, it can still raise blood glucose levels - an unwanted marker for people who are diabetic.
On that note, everybody is different and requires different dietary and nutritional needs to maintain their healthiest, most energetic selves!
I used to drink my calories through juice, smoothies, soda, sweetened coffee drinks like Starbucks, bubble tea, etc. but I realized that I would also eat more food in addition to that and was gaining weight as a result.
Smoothies should act as a meal replacement in the morning for when there is not enough time to consume a regular breakfast. A smoothie is usually made with fruits, vegetables, yogurt, dairy or water, and ice. That’s 1-3 servings of fruits and vegetables in one drink. To put all of this into perspective…
- Medium banana: 105 calories
- 1 cup strawberries: 85 calories
- ½ cup plain yogurt: 80 calories
We’ll assume we blended with just water & ice.
That’s 270 calories! Chances are, if I were to give someone half a cup of plain yogurt, a banana, and a cup of strawberries, that would already seem like a full breakfast. However, now that it is served in a convenient drink, it suddenly might appear to be a lot less food.
Breakfasts with similar calorie counts (roughly 300 calories):
- Cup of cooked oatmeal with milk & honey (150 calories), small apple (80 calories), a few walnuts or granola (90 calories)
- A breakfast sandwich made with 1 English muffin (130 calories), 1 egg (80 calories, 2 bacon strips (85 calories)
- Two waffles (210 calories), one cup blueberries (85 calories)
Since a smoothie is blended, the food is already processed and can be easily swallowed. In return, this generally makes smoothies less effective in subduing one’s hunger and the individual may try to make up for this by consuming additional calories.
Personally nowadays, I prefer to eat my calories when I can, but this is all a matter of preference. I’m not a nutritionist or a dietitian, so please take everything I say with a grain of salt. Do what works and is best for you!
Food is energy first and foremost, so we all benefit by being mindful of what we are eating. Being mindful also helps us savor the tastes, sights, and smells of what we put in our mouths. As foodies, being mindful of our eating only enhances our eating experiences. We are now relishing in the gracious sensation of what it’s like to truly taste our foods - what a blessing!
Take care of yourself and thanks for taking your time to read my long answer if you got this far!
