Hello sweeties! Can you believe I got first place in speech during 5th grade and was chosen to be the one to deliver the graduation speech? Iām nowhere near a professional speaker, but as an anxious jelly bean to another student, here are the things that have worked the best for me ā„
Know your subject well: If youāre already a nervous person, you need to know your presentation very well so you donāt add more stress to that day. Make sure you know whatās in your slides and anything they might ask.Ā
Plan your speech: If you have all the information, the next step is to organize the parts and divide it into understandable sections that you can remember and manage. You can plan an intro, body and ending (at least) so you donāt get lost in your words.Ā
Rehearse: When we had speech contests, the school gave us time limits, so I had to rehearse and time myself. This helps you avoid talking too little or too much, and most importantly, to practice your words and examples beforehand.Ā
Your body: Dress as comfortably as you can without breaking the formal code. Use hand gestures to avoid looking nervous or stiff, just like moving around if you can so you can release some tension.Ā
Record yourself: This helps you check your posture, hand gestures, if your voice sounds tired, unmotivated, if youāre talking too fast, or maybe itās hard to understand your words. If you can, giving your speech to family or friends can help greatly because theyāll be honest and give you feedback you might not have considered.
Before a presentation:Ā Sleep well, eat lightly but enough, and use natural foods to relax like green tea, chocolate, chamomile. Use relaxation techniques like breathing, counting backwards, etc.Ā

Hello sweeties! When I went through the IB programme, sometimes I felt so overwhelmed by all the reading, work, presentations and everything we had to do. So here are my tips to help you manage your time wisely ā„
Write things down: It can be an agenda, a board, a calendar, post it notes. ANYTHING where you write down all the things you have to do. I always recommend planners and calendars because you can check the overview of a months and keep track of dates.
Make a to-do list: This one is just for the day. If you get overwhelmed sometimes (like me) about all the things you have to do, this will help. Youc an start with an easy task to get your momentum going, or with a difficult one to get it over with. You have to find what works for you and know your priorities.
Set aside leisure time: You NEED relax time. you know that right? thereās nothing else worse than a burnout so set alarms every 30min or so and go do your favorite activity for a little while.Ā
Know yourself: What I mean by this is work at the time that you feel best at. Work in a place that you feel comfortable in. If itās 10pm and youāre tired, donāt go to your bed and lie down to read your boring theory book.
Donāt procrastinate: Seriously. I know this too well. Especially if youāre a perfectionist, all youāre going to do whine and cry about the work that needs to be done, but that doesnāt help. Break down your tasks and start little by little!
Keep your materials with you: This is something that has worked for me bc some people tend to be late or class doesnāt start at the time or Iām waiting for an appointment, so if Iām bored or have a little spare time, I can read a book or handout because I have it with me!

Hello sweeties! My dad always raised me with the idea that I had to be intelligent, obedient, beautiful, quick, responsible and basically perfect. You can imagine what happened when I didnāt do something right. It still has an impact on my life to this day, but now Iāve learned that failure is part of success ā„
Practice acceptance:Ā It is okay to fail. fail does not equal negative. failing just means that it didnāt work this time. it does not mean you are worthless or stupid. Ā Once you accept this reality, youāre going to avoid a lot of pain. Suppressing it will only give you health problems (iām talking from experience here).Ā
Replacing emotions:Ā Self-recrimination and guilt are not the right feelings to start with. Itās like trying to lose weight because you hate yourself. It will not work, or make you happier. Take the time to identify your feelings, and ask yourself what you could replace them with to achieve what you want: āI am proud of myself for trying my best.ā
Ask for advice: Depending on what you failed at, you have a lot of people you could talk to. If it was a test, you could ask a friend with a good grade to help you. If it was a paper, talk to your teacher. If itās a personal goal, you can journal your experience, meet with a counselor or someone with an unbiased view of the situation. Ā
Why did you fail? Before you do anything, ask yourself these questions and answer sincerely. Was it because you slacked off? You didnāt have time? Did you have other priorities? Is it maybe not what you really wanted? Were your goals too much to handle? Be flexible with yourself.Ā
Itās okay to try again: Trying again is perfectly fine. I donāt know where the fear of failure came from but we need to let it go (starts singing MeghanĀ Trainorās NO) But seriously. Do you know how many times famous people were rejected? go look it up, itās seriously inspiring.Ā
