I have a lot of questions about the decisions that led to that nauseating disbalanced animation. Especially weird seeing this from Mielgo whose previous work was just...amazing.
But the story. One of love, betrayal and abuse.
I heard people say this episode is about greed and I don't understand how can you not see the dynamics between the Knight and Siren (let's call them that) hinting at some sort of romantic/sexual interest that ends with assault.
The Knight seems to be less prone to falling under Siren's control. He's lured to her though and comes back to see her. Unlike other humans he seems interested in her rather than her golden shell. At first.
When the Knight stays to sleep by the river she comes out of the waters to lay by his side, showing not only mutual interest but also trust.
When he notices her in the morning and grabs her arm, not letting her run away, those golden scales cut into his hand... Showing that they, perhaps, are not just a part of her beautiful shell but an armor ment to protect her.
When they dance in the waterfall and he kisses her... gemstones and beads cut his lips as another attempt of defense. The Knight is bleeding but he keeps kissing and touching her, forces her to lay onto the stones and then strips her, tearing all the gold away. Would some kind of treasure be given a human form were this just a story about greed? Would this scene be so uncomfortably detailed and naturalistic? Especially compared to the rest of this episode's animation.
And then we see the Siren, stripped of her armor, standing in the middle of that lake, looking at her own body, screaming and crying. Isn't this a reaction of someone whose body authority was taken away from them?
So... I think it's a story of someone trying trying to defend themselves by all means, a story of predatory behavior and harassment.
