Remembering a few years back when the women on this website were insisting male biker gang members were actually chill queer allies who beat up chuds for harassing women and not, you know, neo nazis. And honestly, I think the fact that they found it so easy to believe 40 year old, beer bellied high school dropouts with try hard midlife crisis personas were secretly sweethearts, but couldn't see dudes with geeky hobbies and interests as anything other than the embodiment of "toxic masculinity" says everything you need to know about this websites actual understanding and conception of masculinity. Wearing a Triforce shirt and khakis was a bigger red flag to some people than participating in illegal street races.

something that i find interesting about independent animation nowadays is that if you don't have studio/streamer backing, you have to release your work yourself on the internet, but you have to do it for free on the internet because virtually nobody is going to be willing to accept a paywall just for one original show, so what you have to do in order to make any money off of it is make all of your money from merchandising, but then this means that you show must be merchandisable and have very toyetic character designs that translate easily to plushies and whatnot, but then you also need to cater your show to people who are disproportionately inclined to buy merchandise like that in the first place so that your sales can be enough to sustain you, which means that even if you want to communicate complex or difficult ideas in your work, your independent animation project must attract (at least on a first impression) and retain viewers who are both very consumerist and very capable of rabid passion, which unfortunately has a single-circle shaped venn diagram with a lot of the most toxic fandom tendencies known to man, and this explains a lot of things about independent animation and its fandoms nowadays I think

I just wanna preface this with a disclaimer I in no way support or sympathize with Christion Chandler. What he did was not only illegal, but also morally wrong and unjustifiable. I am not attempting to make people sympathize with this man or make excuses for his actions. He should face legal consequences for what he's done, or at the very least be institutionalized to prevent him from causing further harm to others and himself. With that said...

So Chris Chan has reentered public consciousness after a third party exposed him for raping his mother. And If I'm being honest, I don't think they did it because they actually gave a rats ass about protecting his mother. In fact, after all the years of bullying this man has gone through, with every facet of his personal life being broadcast to the masses, I have every reason to believe this was discovered incidentally. That the real goal of the whistleblower was simply to find more material from Chris's life to point and laugh at. And honestly, that's how we got here in the first place.

Shit like this is why I always found the lolcow obsessed, Kiwi Farms style cringe digging behavior to be tasteless. This all basically happened because a bunch of bored, miserable nobodies needed to find someone even more pathetic than they were so they could laugh at him and feel good about themselves by comparison. But once you actually look at these eccentricities in context, as symptoms of a real person's isolation and poor mental health, they're not so funny anymore, are they?

Chris Chan was mentally ill, got bullied for his mental illness, and then descended further into his mental illness cause all anyone cared to do was point and laugh at the details of his private life. And all of this started because he made a bad webcomic. That's what prompted this pathetic obsession into the horrors of his private life that should never have been public knowledge or concern. You can make up whatever fucking bullshit excuse you want for why he deserved it or whatever, but let's be real here, it only got to this point because the internet cared more about its lolcow than it did the real human being behind their jokes and memes.

Maybe this will be a wakeup call for some people. For most of you it won't, cause you have no empathy and are just as pathetic and miserable as Chris Chan is deep down. But maybe someone out there will finally get a fucking clue. These people need help. They need therapy. They don't exist for your amusement. And we don't need to know the details of their private life, especially if it's only so we can point and laugh, because it's none of our concern.

bomb shelters

immediate access to medical care (settlers are blocking ambulances and throwing grenades)

citizen acknowledgement from the government that supposedly wants to help them

means of defending themselves

the right to properly mourn (a funeral was recently attacked by settlers)

Anyone who chooses to claim neutrality is choosing to claim the side of genocide. Neutral = complicit. The number of Palestinian deaths remains staggering and I promise, the occupying state’s numbers are nothing compared to it. Thousands more deaths and fatalities have occurred to the Palestinian people. When the death toll defers by roughly 9,000, I think it’s safe to say that the situation isn’t neutral.*

I repeat, if you are neutral, you side with genocide.

I don't side with Israel or Palestine. You know why? Because Israel is run by ethno-religious ultranationalists who have proven they are quite happy to throw aside human rights in the pursuit of victory, and the Palestinian Legislative Council is ruled by Hamas, an organisation that calls for the creation of an Islamic state with the Qu'ran as it's constitution and advocates for a holy race war against the Jews.

If the position was reversed, and it was Hamas with all the guns and rockets and foreign aid, and the Jews were the ones who were isolated and alone, I guarantee that Hamas would be fucking the Jews over just as hard as Israel is fucking the Palestinians over.

So you're asking me to side with either the fundamentalist theocrats or the ethnic nationalists. Well, I choose neither. They both suck, they're both ruled by awful people, and until they both make a concerted effort to stop fighting for ethnic or religious reasons and start pushing for a human-rights-based approach to peace in the region, there is never going to be peace in the region.

You know what the dumbest part about “Trap is a slur” or “Femboy is a slur” discourse is?

If somebody wants to insult a trans person, they’re more likely to either misgender them or call them an actual transphobic slur like the t-slur.

i dont know why people are like ‘we need to bully people so they are more normal’ when if the internet has been anything its been a series of longitudinal studies showing that prolonged large scale bullying tends to lead people to becoming increasingly weird, paranoid, sometimes off-putting, traumatized, emotionally troubled, ethically disregulated, etc. even unethical modalities like behaviorism don’t focus exclusively or primarily on punishment. like people should literally just be honest and say they want more bullying because they like to do it and have fun hurting other people

So apparently a lot of Twitter users are jumping ship and coming here (which is hilarious) and I’ve seen a lot of “welcome to tumblr” posts going around (also hilarious)

But I don’t think I’ve seen a single one address how clout works on this app. Namely that it doesn’t exist. There’s no verification system. There’s no way to check how many followers someone else has. You can have 5 followers or 500,000 and no one is going to care either way.

Also, simply being on tumblr negates any clout you may have elsewhere. Taylor Swift uses this app. No one cares.

There's also no influencers, no getting paid to post, no brand deals, etc. Unless you have an Etsy shop, take art commissions, etc, you are not going to make any money here. In fact, back in the early 2010s some of the biggest tumblr users tried shilling for brand products a la Instagram and they got banned for it. This is also a selling point.
