Blossoms and a beauty 💫🌾🚲 (at Tuscany)
-- open.
nero.
NERO SCOWLED AT THE SLEEPING MAN. victors who’d returned to district two had long raved about the training center. they’d painted pictures in his mind of vast rooms, high ceilings, well-balanced weapons, and sharp-eyed instructors that could seize upon even the slightest errors in form. this man was not at all what he had hoped for. “if you didn’t poison him, i’ll be sincerely disappointed.” he narrowed his eyes at the man, searching him quickly for any signs that he might be poisoned, and finding none. with that, nero glanced down at the book in her hands, his eyes glancing quickly over the plants at his feet, and he sighed. this station didn’t have anything of real interest to him, but he wanted to see what happened when the man woke up. perhaps he’d wake him up himself. the thought earned a little smirk. “you know…? i think he deserves to be punished.” nero said, having already decided what he’d do. “you should wake him up and tell him i ate some of…” a pause, nero studied the plants curiously and decided on a little pile of red berries. “those.” a shrug. “serves him right for sleeping on the job.”
PANDORA WAS NOT UNFAMILIAR WITH PRANKS. growing up in eleven, children had to find some ways to entertain themselves, and she had memories of other students messing with teachers in the desolate hallways and hiding baskets of crops in the fields to cause trouble. they were limited, of course, especially with how strict the peacekeepers had been, but it didn’t stop kids from being kids. she always did feel a bit bad for the victim in those situations, though -- some sympathy for their ignorance, she supposed. that same sympathy flashed across her face for a moment at the man’s suggestion. “huh? oh, no, of course i didn’t poison him. i honestly didn’t realize he was dozed off until a minute ago,” she admitted easily, but something told her that this man wouldn’t be at all bothered if she had. “those?” she looked over at the pile, recognizing them as yew berries. she bit her lip in thought, letting hardly a second pass by before she decided she was on board with the idea. i might as well have a bit of fun while i’m here. “ ... alright. but we’ll have to tell him i ate at least the whole pile. that’s about a fatal dose.” she bit back a small laugh. this poor man is going to think he killed one of their prized tributes.
🌌 —— lexi.
pandora && lexi . – air && fire .
“ stop trying to search through my mind, you’ll end up getting burned – “ “ – don’t worry, every fire shines light. “
“ we are instinctive, we are what drives this living, breathing earth. and together, we are the ones that will unknowingly create our destruction. “
“ strength is not measured in physicality, it is measured in spirit. “
31. What is one thing you wish you could change about your life
she paused a moment, pondering. of course she had wondered what life would be like if everything were different, had stayed up at night as a child wishing for a full plate or a life away from district 11. but those were just thoughts, and the older she got she had become accustomed to putting aside meaningless despair in place for accepting what she had at the present time. she did always tend to live in the moment, if she was being honest.
“ i wouldn’t change anything about my life, “ she admitted. “ just our circumstances. “
26. What did you do for your last Birthday
on her 19th birthday, pandora was busy harvesting fall crops, her mother by her side as she gathered collards and apples from the orchards all day. but that night was different, the moment she got home from the gardens she was on her way to victors village.
“ jack and i celebrated together. “ she smiled at the memory of how she had led him to the flower fields nearby, gazing at the starry sky for hours as the district slept.
47. Do you have a crush on someone
her tilted her head in thought, one person in particular coming to mind but she knew he probably wouldn’t want her being too open about it. “ i’m not sure if it counts as a crush, actually… maybe a friendship crush? a friend crush? he’s quite pretty to look at though. “
send me 🌌 and I’ll write a few aesthetic phrases that suit the relationship between our muses

96. Who from all your exes have you cared the most about?
“ well there was this one boy from school when i was 9, he liked to pick flowers with me at recess. but other than that, i don’t think i have any ‘exes’, at least that i know of. “

HE SPENDS THE PARADE LOOKING BORED . not even the interruption breaks the facade . apathy suits the persona crafted for him sixteen years ago , and he embraces it wholeheartedly . time spent in the capitol goes by easier when you act like you don’t give a damn— and the stoic expression follows him all the way back to the training center . his dark , tailored jacket lies discarded on a bench . effort was put into his appearance today— it’s not only tributes who have to appease potential sponsors . but he doesn’t seek his tributes out after the parade . they’re grown ( one is the same age as he is ) they aren’t children he feels responsible for . and so he goes to the rooftop garden , away from people . so far up that the world below looks small and insignificant . dryly , he comments , ❛ and this is the only peace to be found in the capitol . ❜
she needed a break . after such a tiring day -- so many people wanting to touch her , so much attention she wasn’t used to and meaningless conversation she didn’t understand -- she needed fresh air . she left the loud hub of the party under the guise of “ just heading to the restroom “ after multiple assurances to random escorts and attendants that she could find it on her own , and she knew jack was busy conversing with potential sponsors , getting them just the right amount of tipsy to be agreeable . she figured it was okay to step away for a moment , right ? she hadn’t meant to go to the roof ( more so pressed an elevator button out of desperation ) but the moment she stepped out into a greenery of various flora and decor , she almost sighed in relief . apart from her mentor and partner tribute , she saw this as the closest thing in the capitol so far to remind her of home . ❛ huh ? ❜ pandora looked over at the voice , too caught up in trying to peel off her impossible heels to realize she wasn’t alone . ❛ maybe . luckily plants don’t talk near as much as the people downstairs do -- well , at least not that i’ve seen yet . ❜ honestly , she wouldn’t be surprised if one of these flowers were engineered to answer her back before the man did .
eve.
“ i am. never got the chance to volunteer as a kid, so here i am now. ” she shrugged, eyeing the girl. she was pretty, very pretty. she pictured sponsors for her, especially after rue became such a hit in the capitol. an involuntary shudder rattled through her. glorifying dead children, never growing sick of it. how could they take this? she nodded, reminded of everything she was missing now, the freedom of the boat, catching fish everyday even though she hated to see them squirm – they had mouths to feed, after all. how easy it would have been to remain home, to stay exactly the way she was, never changing. a fisher, a comfortable life. she knew that she was one of few, however. “ what’s eleven like? ”
the woman’s voice was oddly melodic, pandora noted -- very even and well-practiced, like she spoke with a purpose. like a leader. like a real person. it was refreshing, especially in such an unfamiliar place. she nodded her head in response, remembering how common volunteers were in the career districts, more specifically one and two. “ understandable, “ she conceded. “ i suppose you’d be at more of an advantage than back then. “ she tilted her head, recent memories of eleven coming to mind (peacekeepers at every corner, the public whippings in town square, the watchtowers looming over the crop fields that had once been the people’s place of comfort) and knowing that she’d have to choose her words carefully. “ very ... secure. “ hopefully the other knew what she meant. hopefully the congressman nearby was too tipsy to have been eavesdropping. she quickly changed the course of tone, though, a genuine soft smile on her lips as she added another truth: “ but the orchards back home are breathtaking. “
jack.
pain had become a familiar companion. jack had first come to understand its language in the fields, when the bushes would prick his fingers and the tree bark would wear his hands raw, but he’d become fluent in the years to come. jack had not known pain intimately until he had been reaped. fear radiated through him and threatened to tear him in two, and then came the arena… he’d nearly died there. the draw of a blade against his skin had been so acute, so all consuming, that it felt as though his brain was aflame. there was the pain that came after the games, the emotional and physical damage that felt as though it might tear him to pieces. then came the pain of tributes, losing them again and again and again, and now pandora…
he watched her, the way that her beautiful blonde hair cascaded down her shoulders and her bright eyes sparkled, and he wanted to protect her from all of the horrible that she would be exposed to inside of the arena. but there was nothing that he could do. he’d pleaded with her, he’d tried to convince her not to go into the arena, he’d kissed her in the hopes that it might make her stay, but she’d volunteered all the same. he ran a hardened hand through his hair, calloused fingers pushing apart his dark locks, and realized too late that there was hair gel holding his dark curls together. “tsk,” he huffed, and dropped his hand to his side again. his stylist would be furious with him for this.
“your stylist did you a favor,” he murmured, “believe me.” no amount of compliments could possibly save him from her wrath, but it was the truth all the same. “i shouldn’t have any trouble getting you sponsors when you look like…” a dream? a goddess? he’d always thought pandora beautiful, but he couldn’t get enough of her in this dress. jack breathed a slow, steady breath before continuing. “queen.” he managed, offering her a little smile before she’d changed the subject. he straightened slightly, remembering himself. pandora was focused on what was to come, and he ought to be as well. “always,” he nodded, frowning at the crowds, “just wait until the stylists and sponsors have had a few drinks.” jack shook his head, some mixture of horror and amusement played across his expression. “you won’t be able to keep ‘em away.” it was bad enough on years that his tributes wore ugly outfits, but this ensemble? she’d be bound to attract a crowd. “just give me a sign if you need an out, alright?”
at the mention of sponsors and capitol officials, pandora almost physically sighed. it wasn’t that she didn’t see the importance of gaining their favor -- in fact, she was more than aware of the key role they would play in her survival. but she was exhausted. the people here were a bit different than she had expected. sure they were extravagant and privileged and in most cases haughty, but she found a strange sense of pity in the fact that they didn’t seem to know better. ignorance is bliss, her mother would always say, and when one of her stylist’s assistants asked her longingly about her “skincare regimen” and went on about how he wanted to visit district 11′s vineyards, she realized just how true that saying was. talking to these people was, in a way, refreshing, but it took a toll on her sanity. and with how hectic her day had been so far, it didn’t help that she hadn’t been able to sleep last night, either.
luckily jack was here with her, though. if she trusted anyone to be by her side in a room full of strangers like this, it was obviously him, and his expertise on how to navigate the social scene of the capitol was more than helpful. it was no secret that she was a lost cause the moment they stepped off the train here, and as guilty as pandora felt she was thankful he was here to guide her through what she had gotten herself into.
“o-- thank you,” she smiled lightly, the compliment tinting her cheeks a light pink and confusing her with the odd feeling it caused in her chest. she pushed it aside though, tilting her head at him with a grin. “then they did a great job making you the king.” it wasn’t a lie -- his attire was so regal and cut, just how she pictured the kings in the old stories to be. matched with the natural aura of intensity and strength he always seemed to carry, it was no wonder he had so many fans here to fawn over him. “i’m not sure i want to see that,” she conceded with wide eyes, uneasy at the thought. the idea of these already pompous officials downing a few drinks seemed like something she would dread. she had a feeling they were going to be the hands-y type. she huffed, letting out a breathy half-laugh at the thought of having to deal with it all on such a small amount of rest. “... is it too early to give the sign right now?” she bit her lip up at him, her tone joking but there was an obvious hopefulness in her eyes. it didn’t matter, though. she knew she had to stay either way.
eve.
it was a smart move. defiant and clear as day to those among them aware of what was to happen during the games. all was going forward as planned, and they would not be abandoned inside the arena. it quelled some of the nerves, knowing that they weren’t utterly alone in there. “ a glitch of some sort. ” she shrugged, sipped on the tangy wine flooding her tastebuds with its rich flavour. her eyes darted around the room, capitol officials were uneasy, gamemakers stood up a little bit straighter. yes, good. it was nice to see them shake. “ you’re from her district, aren’t you? i remember you from the reaping. ”
her eyes had started to flicker among the crowd, straining to find jack -- she was there when he returned to the district last year, just after having lost thresh and rue in the arena, and she knew any reminder of that little girl would be affecting him. not that he would show it, of course, but pandora had to admit that even she was shook from hearing that tune. she hadn’t known rue too personally (passed her in the fields some days, helped her carry a basket of crops once or twice) but it wasn’t just her memory that was impactful, it was what she represented in eleven. and pandora had a feeling some of the people here knew it, too. “ yes, “ she replied openly, catching the unease in the room before turning back to face her company. “ and you're the volunteer for district 4, right? i’ve always wanted to visit there. we don’t have many beaches back home. “
jack.
jack was awestruck. from the moment that he had first seen pandora step through the doorway, adorned in a beautiful dress with a crown of flowers, he’d been unable to think of anything else. his heart thundered in his chest, threatening to burst from between his ribcage, though he’d done his very best to hide what he felt behind his usual look of indifference. all through the parade, he watched for her chariot. enormous horses surged ahead of her, carrying both pandora and her district partner through the crowded streets where they would be greeted by president snow himself. he watched through the gate, squinting to be able to see her just a little bit better, and on occasion his eyes flashed toward the screen with the hopes of catching sight of his old friend
what was he doing? he knew how futile it was to feel this way, but he’d harbored these feelings long, long before pandora had ever volunteered to take part in the hunger games. though he’d tried his best to suppress them, to swallow what he felt for her, jack couldn’t help but want her when he saw her dressed so handsomely. he’d never seen her like this before, after all.
there was no time to wait for her. before jack could help pandora off of the carriage, before the chariot had even pulled through the archway, jack had been escorted to a grand room with too many voices. he wished, albeit absently, that he could numb himself. this was far too much. he could feel the tension radiating throughout his body, the way that his shoulders tensed as people greeted him, as fans scampered up to him and tried to engage him in conversation, all the while he just wanted to find his tributes. dark eyes darted from side to side, searching the crowd for a familiar face. after a few moments, he’d found her. again, his heart leaped in his chest, but he did his best to keep his expression neutral. “pandora,” he breathed, "you looked… you look–” damn it all, “you did great. the crowd loved it.” jack managed the faintest of smirks. “you’re lucky they didn’t dress you as a farmer this year.”
somewhere along the line of their friendship pandora had started feeling a certain sense of solace around jack. within the first year, maybe? or perhaps a few months after? she couldn’t be sure. all she knew was that his presence had a tendency to calm her down a bit, give her an aura of comfort, especially since they had arrived in the capitol. of course that sense of security wasn’t enough to cover the guilt she had for volunteering -- he had told her not to, had reminded her of how dangerous the arena was, had tried his best to convince her to stay in district eleven when she had hinted at it. he had kissed her.
it hadn’t worked though. the minute she heard her friend’s name boom over the speakers at the reaping, pandora had stepped up to take her place before anyone could deny it. it was too easy a decision, and in that moment she had a feeling her and jack both knew there was no use in trying to stop her. he hadn’t mentioned the kiss since.
“you’re right, although i think a farmer costume would be more comfortable than these shoes,” she conceded before letting her gaze take in his appearance up close. his suit was sharp and dark, cut perfectly to his form in a way that she hadn’t noticed before. there had definitely been an attempt at taming his hair, but as usual there was no use -- his dark curls were array in an effortlessly messy style that was so naturally jack, and pandora could clearly imagine him running his hands through it absently, pissing off his stylist team. it framed his strong features in a way that she openly admired, letting her eyes roam across his face innocently as she analyzed him. he looked handsome, and the smirk he wore only emphasized it. “but thank you,” she looked back up at him with a genuine grin, smoothing down the front of her dress. “i’m not sure how you do this every year, though. is it always this hectic?”
the moment pandora’s feet hit the ground she was looking for him, stepping down from the chariot as well as she could in the tall golden heels cradling her feet. she was used to worn field boots, soles caked in soil and dirt with laces fringing at the tips -- suffice to say this outfit overall was a bit out of her usual wardrobe. however, apart from the shoes, she had no problem with the outfit her stylist had thrown on her so enthusiastically, his assistants flitting around fixing threads and pinning seams for what had seamed like hours. “we want something elegant, something simple,” he had explained, fixing her blonde hair to look as perfectly “natural” as he could, letting it flow down her back before adjusting the floral headpiece on her crown. luckily she was not dressed as painfully crazy as she had been expecting. “i want you just as pretty and deadly as these flowers -- oh, and remember to smile, darling, the audience likes a pretty face!”
pretty and deadly. pandora repeated the words in her head. she could do that, right? how hard could it be?
before she could search for jack in the chariot room more, two peacekeepers were flanked by her side and guiding her down a corridor, their brisk steps hard to keep in time with as she looked back anxiously. soon enough she was thrown into the crowded after party, weaving her way among the various colorful people as gracefully as she could in these heels. she had just managed to dodge conversation with a sleazy capitol official (his eyes had made her a bit uncomfortable) and much to her escort’s dismay she hadn’t immediately shook hands with any of the congressmen or wealthy sponsors waiting to the side. no, she was preoccupied, the fabric of her glossy dress gripped in her hand while she waded through the extravagant party-goers towards the main entrance. as soon as she saw his familiar mop of dark hair approaching the stairwell, dressed to the nines in a sharp capitol suit, she let out a sigh of relief.
