Disclaimer: We are not the voice for all Asians in the world! We are just two people!! Also racism against Asians is called orientalism. Now you know!
Do I count as Asian? We can't answer that for you, we don't know you. Here's a list of Asian countries though.
What are your 'credentials'? Only answering here so I don't get asked more invasively in the future. I am Taiwanese American with a lifetime's experience of being Asian. I have lived in Japan for two years. Despite my knowledge being East Asian-heavy, this remains a blog for all Asians, and our research and blog content will reflect that. As for Mod Mira, she is (South) Indian American and was raised across the states, so her experiences and knowledge are more tied to the South Asian/Desi diaspora.
Can we tag this blog in posts? Of course! If you have any posts that are relevant or interesting and would like us to reblog, please feel free to tag us!
Do you have a Ko-Fi or Paypal I could donate to? I do not, but I reblog fundraisers for Asians and people of color frequently. Please donate to them.
Note about Sending/Submitting Asks: You don鈥檛 have to be shy about sending in asks, that鈥檚 why we have anon mode on! However, we do expect common courtesy and basic human decency when having discussions. Being impolite or overtly passive aggressive to us (this is specified because people鈥檚 tones can naturally vary) or potentially to others won鈥檛 be tolerated. We are not your proxy for disagreements you may have with other people here either. This doesn鈥檛 mean you can鈥檛 have criticism, that is totally valid! Differing opinions makes for more productive conversation, but don鈥檛 treat us differently than how you would people in real life (following the golden rule of treating others the way you鈥檇 want to be treated). And finally, remember to capitalize proper nouns such as Asians, specific Asian ethnic groups, etc. when you send in asks, otherwise they will be deleted.
I'm not aure if other artists of color experience this but something that I've been wondering about is how to describe characters without it being too othering. Like for Artfight for example, I'm sometimes between adding in the description of some of my characters that they are Asian because that is an apart of them and me. But sometimes I want to add that part to the description because I don't want other artists to misinterpret or see them as white by default. It just feels weird to me that some white characters by white and non-white artists don't necessarily have to worry about adding the description of race or ethnicity because their characters are more likely to be depicted respectfully and accurately without the need to clarify (from what I can tell and seen) while I've seen other artists with characters of color adding information about their characters of what to do and not to do for their characters to be depicted respectfully and accurately (such as not whitewashing, not changing specific features, etc). Part of me wants to not have to label or clarify that my characters are Asian because it feels like "hey they aren't the default" a bit to me but if I don't clarify then I risk receiving art of my characters that don't depict them as respectfully or mindfully if that makes sense. I guess I'm curious if other artists experience this and whether its silly for me to be stuck on this and if there's any advice or recommendations on how to approach this moving forward
i completely get this honestly, it's messed up that whiteness is the norm and you have to specify anything otherwise. this ask actually reminded me of a book written by a Black woman where only white characters are identified by their race, while Black characters are treated as the norm and do not have their races mentioned.
Just warning you - rhysaka is a rabid Hindu nationalist and supporter of the genocidal right wing RSS and BJP parties in India. That post you reblogged by them isn't a harmless overview of Hinduism, it's right wing propaganda that supports absolutely disgusting movements back home in India to murder India's religious diversity and ethnic minorities and turn it into a one-religion one-party one-language ethnostate. I'm saying this as a Hindu I genuinely recommend you do not go near the Hindu side of tumblr whatsoever, it's primarily populated by religious fascists (even worse, the kind that'll disguise their beliefs in progressive language to make it seem progressive to non-South Asians).
Oh this is very appreciated, thank you! I've heard a lot of things about Desiblur but I didn't realize it was that insidious as someone who grew up less familiar with the religion
Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
USA folks, that is a consistent temperature range hitting 113掳. Death Valley temperatures. In Banda, it hovered between 116掳-118掳 (47掳-48掳 C) for a week straight.
This has been happening all month with little to no international media attention. Here are a few organizations you can check out for resources or to support:
I would also like to mention that Banda has significantly higher humidity than Death Valley even during the dry season so if those numbers aren't heat index adjusted, it probably felt even hotter than that.
what's your thoughts about Kabru from dungeon meshi? His design has the "blue eyed dark skinned character" kind of overused design though there are rrason behind that and it was a central part of his character (his entire hometown think he's cursed for his eyes, a nod to the evil eye belief)
As much as I'm somewhat frustrated by that character design trope, I don't really mind as long as there is either a story reason (like you mentioned) OR if it doesn't feel like the creator did it (or does it repeatedly) to avoid giving a character more "ethnic" features (notice how I put "ethnic" in quotes). This sort of blue-green color is one of my favorites especially as someone who does also love green eyes (so there is a bias here on my part), but he looks like a Brown person to me! I think the wavy hair and the skin tone help a lot here. The meaning behind the eye color works well here I feel like (kind of reminds me of Mizu ngl) but at least it makes sense and isn't that thing where the MC is the only one with more eurocentric features and is praised for that even though it realistically wouldn't be the beauty standard within the region where that character is from, but that's a whole other tangent.
HELLO IT鈥橲 ME THE LEE EMI ANON AND YOU SHOULD TOTALLY WATCH THE CLEAN SLATE MUSIC VIDEO THAT SHE RELEASED A FEW DAYS AGO!!! The MV includes some stuff about her relationship with her identity as a Korean-American adoptee, and the song is great.

i frequently recheck this post to find artists to attack, as well as searching 'asian' & asian nationalities on artfight, so don't hesitate to keep adding !! shoutout to all asian artists & ocs
the zendaya thing isnt even a new phenomenon by any means!! the article mentions margot robbie wearing the taj mahal diamond as well, and in addition to that i also want to remind people that diljit dosanjh's request to wear the patiala necklace for the 2025 met gala was denied by cartier because they said it was in a museum and could not be loaned. however they had no issues at all loaning it to emma chamberlain, a white woman, for the 2022 met gala, while they turned down the request of a punjabi man who wanted it to honor his heritage.
this behavior is nothing new. the global south and everything in it - the people, the culture, our heritage - is seen as nothing more than a decoration or commodity to colonizers. i don't even need to bring up the koh i noor or the entire british museum; these examples are recent and egregious enough on their own.
of course this is not to imply that any of the people involved here - zendaya, margot robbie, or emma chamberlain - had any sort of malicious intentions. but the ignorance is just as bad in my opinion. the ignorance is just as harmful, if not more. because it means we are not even an afterthought. it means that the real people and histories and heritages of the global south do not even register when these people are putting together looks for their movie premiers and met gala appearances. everything is just reduced down to a shiny piece of jewelry whose history they need not bother with. it's just a continued reminder of the way colonization affects us all even long after independence, of how barely-healed wounds keep being reopened even decades later. even now, we are being denied connections to our histories and heritages while they are freely being given out to those that have nothing to do with it and don't care for it. and i'm sick of it.
hi i mainly wanted to ask you (mod mira) if you are familiar with pokemon and have any sort of comments on leon and hop from pokemon sword and shield? i love those guys and i believe theyre intended to be indian-coded. i want to ask an indian person or open the discussion to indian fans if there were any problems with these characters that i missed. thank you!
Oooh a question for me specifically yay! Also remember to capitalize Indian next time <3
I wanna ask some of my family members who are more familiar with Pokemon to get their thoughts too, but my main thoughts are I would not assume they are meant to be Indian unless you told me so lol. I think in the rightmost picture, he kind of looks like one of my family friends, but in general I would probably assume they were meant to be Black or Afro-Arab before Indian.
