Forever Starts Now/Magnolia Family FDC 6
“Now?”
Jo asked staring back at Cam.
“Yes, right now,” he started. “I have everyone coming over in just a bit, and I say we just get married tonight, on Christmas Eve, in front of our friends and family”
Jo didn’t know what to say. Her time with Cam has been the most steady and beautiful of her entire life. It only took a few dates before she started seeing him in her long-term future. But, now?
“Yes,” she whispered, her heart taking over and silencing any part of her that wanted to object. Time as precious, and she knew without a doubt that she wanted to spend every moment with Cam.
Around 7pm, her friends and family had gathered for dinner. They had no idea what was coming up after the main course. As the last guest finished up, Cam stood.
“I want to thank everyone for spending their Christmas Eve with us. Most importantly, for opening up your hearts and being apart of our lives all year long. We love each of you and wanted to share some news with you first. Today, I asked Joanna to marry me. To be my wife from this moment forward. And, I do mean... THIS.. moment” He said, empathizing the last sentence to allow everyone to take it in.
There were gasps and cheers, as everyone put together what was happening. Joanna stood to take her place next to Cam.
And just like, in the front of their friends and loved ones, Joanna and Cam committed to their life together.

Willow
Another shift. Willow didn’t mind the cafe much at all, the constant dance of people in the midst of their days was fascinating to her. It seemed like everyone had a story to tell, and she loved trying to figure it out.
She had her regulars, taking pride in learning their names and their usual order, but it was the strangers she seemed to enjoy the most.
The night was slowing down so Willow decided to start cleaning the machine in the lull so it would ready to go when the last rush of the night came. She filled the nearby bucket with a good amount of hot water and added some soap, before turning to start on the machine. As she started, the door swung open.
A stranger. She was sure of it because he had a look she couldn’t ignore. He was tall and muscular, with a tanned complexion and eyes so light they almost seemed to have hints of grey weaved into them. Her heart started to beat faster, and her cheeks even flushed a bit, as he stared at her and walked towards the counter.
“Hi,” He said confidently, smiling at her
“Oh, HI!” She said, a bit too enthusiastically. Her cheeks flushed more and she could feel the heat from them inching to the base of her neck. His voice as strong and mysterious, a combination that had her head spinning.
“umm, this is my first time here,” he said. “What’s good to order?”
“Oh, well I’ve tried just about everything,” she laughed nervously. Calming herself she tried to steady her breathing and try and match his effortless confidence.
“I think my favorite, for a day like today, would be a cold brew with a hint of vanilla,” She pointed at the menu so that she had something to do with her hands and could focus herself for a minute.
“Well, I trust you,” He said. “I’ll take that”
His voice was so steady, his demeanor so comfortable, that she caught herself just staring back at him, taking him in. She wanted to know more about him, wanted to hear his stories and learn all about him. Who is this man that was having such an effect on her
“Is...is that ok?” He asked looking around a bit unsure.
She snapped herself back to reality and gave a nervous giggle. “Of course!” She said loudly and focused her attention back to her work, pulling a large blue mug out from underneath her and gathering her ingredients.
He watched her as she worked, and just feeling his eyes on her made her feel beautiful and also nervous.
“I’m Parker, by the way” He said, leaning over the counter just slightly.
“Willow” she said back.
“Willow,” he repeated. Then, a little quieter, as if just to himself, “Willow”

The Engagement//Magnolia Family FDC 5
Days quickly turned into weeks as Cam and Jo spent every waking moment with one another. Jo liked how it felt being around Cam; life felt easy and full of warmth.
Soon, the weather turned cold and Christmas was in the horizon. Cam came over early this morning to help pull boxes of decorations out of the garage and unbox them, turning the house into a winter wonderland.
Cam came back into the room, just as Joanna was hanging the last of the ornaments.
Pulling a small box off the side of the tree, he held it up in his hands.
“I don’t recognize that one,” She said, looking at the red satin box, held by a delicate white string.
He smiled.
‘Well, let’s open it an see,” He whispered, getting down on one knee.
“Joanna, Will you ...”
“YES” She yelled, tears filling her eyes.
He beamed back at her, slipping the ring on her finger.
“One more question,” He said as she gazed at her fingers and the Christmas lights dancing across the diamond.
“Anything!” She said enthusiastically.
“Will you marry me...now?” He asked

Never Enough/Grey Break 6
*Flashback*
Parker snuck into the house through the back door, seeing his father’s car in the driveway as he walked up to his house.
He knew that in most situations that involved his Dad, it was better to not be seen or heard. Creping up the stairs, he got to the landing without a sound, years of practice being invisible has made him practically a pro at going unnoticed. Slipping into his room, he let out a deep breath and eased himself into the stark surroundings.
He looked over at his homework but didn’t feel the motivation to actually open it up. Instead, he hopped onto his computer and checked the forums.
XDarkParkX was his online persona, and through it, he felt like he actually fit in somewhere. Discussing games or trolling other users made him feel like he mattered in a way.
At school, he was bullied. At home, he was ignored and ridiculed. But here, he was someone. He had a voice that was heard.
Over the last few years, Parker as able to build up an online persona that demanded respect. When he spoke, people finally listened, and it fueled him to keep pushing the boundaries.
Soon enough, he heard the quiet footsteps coming up the stairs outside his doorway and quickly closed the browser and brought up a standard research page he had bookmarked for these moments. His Dad was opening his door just as the page loaded.
A quiet man, he sat down on Parker’s bed, taking a moment before speaking.
“What are you working on?” He asked.
Parker felt the heat rising in his stomach. These conversations always started out the same way. He could practically track the exact course before it even happened.
“Homework,” He grumbled.
A pause. A sigh.
(Check)
“I got a call from your principal again. He said you’re failing 3 courses” He said slowly
“Only 3?”, Parker challenged, continuing to navigate the website, pretending to show interest in the images on his screen.
Silence.
(check)
Parker’s Dad never used excessive words, never spoke without thought. It’s almost like he only gave himself an allotted amount of words per day and didn’t want to waste them. There were days where he barely said anything at all. In those moments Parker always tried to push him to anger, relishing in the flow of language that escaped him with a sense of pride that he could push him past his normal limits. Today was no exception.
“Parker,” He yelled throwing his hands up and punctuating his words as anger took hold of his usual calm demeanor. “When are you going to grow up and face the real world?”
Parker’s heard it all before. He learned long ago that he could never live up to his father's expectations of him. That, when held to that standard, he always felt like he was failing. So, knowing he could never be the best, he strived instead to be the worst. It was easier to live up the expectation that you would always screw things up.
He shrugged, pushed his chair back and walked out of the room, leaving his dad’s expectations and disappoints behind him, and left the house.
He didn’t know where he was going, he just knew he needed to get out of there. Walking through his neighboorhood, he dreamt of the day he could move out of that house and leave behind the feelings of never being good enough.
He didn’t have the grades, he didn’t have a job or a plan, but he knew that staying in that house would kill him.
He noticed a small cafe up ahead, newly built just a few months back. He never went inside before, always preferring being held up in his room than the company of strangers. But, he was starving and needed something to calm his nerves, so he made his way towards it.
The cafe was made out of a converted shipping container and was actually pretty cool. He felt drawn inside, the bright colors catching his eyes and almost pulling him towards it.
Swinging the door open, he noticed the girl barista behind the counter and couldn’t help but smile...

Pieces of Me/Grey Break LP #5
*Flashback*
Willow came in and dropped her backpack off at the door, slipping her shoes off as she ran up the stairs, two at a time. Swinging open the door, she took a deep breath and let the day fall away from her. High school can be so draining and demanding, taking pieces of her throughout the day. But, here, in this space, she got each piece back and found herself at peace again.
She sat at her keyboard, which cost her 4 months worth of paychecks from the cafe, and even then, it was secondhand. She liked the idea of it being used before and often found herself thinking about who might have used it? Did they find the home in it that she did? What were they trying to escape?
She started to play, letting her thoughts slip away as the music took her away.
Time fell away and before she knew it, her phone alarm was buzzing away, signaling it was time to head to the cafe for her shift.
She worked everyday after school and was able to get an 8 hour shift on Saturdays. It was more than what was allowed while she was in school but the owner paid her under the table and was happy to have an employee like Willow, so it benefited them both.
For as long as she could remember, she felt the need to flee this town. She just seemed to know, even as a kid, that it couldn’t fit her dreams inside the small borders and that every day it would try and close in on her more and more.
It’s what happened to her mother. A beautiful, talented writer that worked double shifts at the hospital to keep her daughters in nice clothes and the lights on. She came home late, exhausted and worn, her laugh lines fading as her stress started to take over.
It was never her plan, but when a heart attack took her husband early, she put away her notebooks and journals and went to work at the hospital, rising up as far as he could without a college education. Now the director of patient care, she works long hours, for ample pay, and goes to sleep after her daughters with unwritten stories and words stuck inside her.
Willow wanted more.
So, she worked all she could an tried her best to keep up with her school work on top of it. She saved every penny, knowing it was her ticket out of here and the other way to ensure her words and music wouldn’t go unheard.
Her shift ended at 9pm and she made her way home to grab a sandwich and do her homework before falling into bed for the night.
It would be hours before her older sister came home, working long shifts at the diner now that she had graduated. Her mother would come in well after midnight some nights. It as lonely, but they all were doing the best they could. The house may be quiet most days, but it was bright and full of love.
Willow just couldn’t help but think, “There’s got to be more”
Two Lives Worth of Lies/ Grey Break Part 4
The days continued just like before. Willow would wait eagerly for Parker to leave for work, planning her day to the minute to keep up with her two lives right now.
The moment she would watch Parkers car fade into the distance, she would run downstairs and start painting.
By Friday, she had four paintings finished and felt content with her progress. Since it was only 11 when she finished up, she decided it might be nice to go for a walk and clear her head before getting onto her house chores for the afternoon.
On her walk, she noticed a few collectibles along her usual route and started thinking.
“I could harvest a few of these on my route, and add them to my sales table,” she thought. Even if they didn’t sell at the flea market, there was the farmers market on Wednesday that she was sure had a few farmers that would purchase them from her. Every bit counted.
Within an hour, she had more than she could carry and headed back to the house. At this point it was almost 1pm, so she cleaned herself up and set ahead on the housework and making dinner.
Everyday just the same, a continual dance that she couldn’t want to step out of. It would take weeks, maybe months, to save all she needed to make a new life for herself, but she knew she could do it. She did it once before, and this time she wouldn’t be relying on anyone but herself.
She heard the car door slam outside just as she plated dinner. She knew by the door slams that Parker wasn’t going to be in a good mood. She put on her best face and smiled at him as he walked in.
Grumbling, he sat down and instantly starting eating, complaining about work and all the injustices he felt from the day. He shared his burdens with such fervency that it almost seemed as if he was trying to physically shed them off himself and onto to Willow.
Willow listened as she cleaned dishes, her mind wandering to her plans and checklists and dreaming of her life outside these grey walls.

Breathing Life/Grey Break Part 3
Willow made her way into the room, having pushed the large shelf unit out of the way just far enough to open the worn wooden door. The brightness seemed to shine straight out of the room and onto her face, forcing her to close her eyes for a minute before soaking it in. The rich yellows were such a contrast to the grey tones of her everyday life, that it often made a gasp catch in her throat when she opened her eyes and settled on its beauty.
It was like breathing again.
It started so slowly, this oasis. A box here and there when she was feeling lonely or lost. But as the weeks went on, turning easily into months, and her secret remained safe, she got braver.
And now.. well... it was as if her heart was kept locked in this room, unable to be touched by the harsh realities around her.
Now, this room would be her escape plan. She dusted off her old easel and laid a blank canvas on it’s splintered wooden frame. Taking a breath to steady herself, she dipped a brush into paint and lost herself in its movements.
Before she realized it, the painting was done and revealed itself in front of her.
“One down”, She thought. It was like a small step forward and it made her feel hope for the first time in a while.
Looking at the clock, she felt panic rising up though. Only an hour before Parker would be home. She quickly locked the door behind her, tucking the key behind the washer, and moving the shelf back in its place. She took one more long look around, making sure everything looked correct before settling herself back into character and starting up the stairs.
Cleaning, cooking and making a presentable home.
Those were her duties and they wore on her slowly over the years. But tonight, each task felt a little easier, as she thought about the paint drying and hardening on the canvas below her feet, and how every stroke brought her closer.

The Plan/ Grey Break/ Part 2
Willow waited until she heard her husband's familiar snores, then crept out of bed and down the stairs. She opened up her journal and started to craft her plan.
Parker was at work from 9-5pm most days, giving her a window to collect money. When she was little, her mother bought her an old easel at a yard sale for $10. Willow would stand at it for hours, hanging sheets of printer paper and doodling with markers, the only supplies her family could afford. Even those would dry up and dull out, the consequences of being overused by 7 other kids in the house. Still, Willow would dip them in water, creating faded watercolors and bring them back to life. She had an art, even at a young age, of seeing beauty where there seemed to be none. And that’s what she would do here. She would create beauty here.
She needed close to $5000 to make the break. Enough for a bus ticket to the city and a lease on a new life. A backup while she struggled to make music and find her voice again. It would take a lot of work, and a lot of sneaking around so that Parker wouldn’t know, but still she felt hope for the first time in a while.
“You can do this again,” she said to herself, closing the journal and running her hands over the worn, fabric front. She shut her eyes and willed her plan to life.
Downstairs, next to the laundry room, was an old coal cellar that the previous owner had covered up. Parker immediately threw her old boxes of music and art in there, along with a few boxes of his past that he deemed suitable to lock up, and shut the door. He jammed a large shelving unit over the doorframe and that was the end of that.
In the early days of marriage, Willow would stare at the door, the frame barely noticeable behind the sturdy shelving. It always reduced her to tears, thinking of her dreams, her beauty, hidden behind those doors.
Parker never came down here anyway. Laundry was her job and he had no reason to go down there.
One day, a few months ago, Willow stared longingly at the worn door frame and wondered, “Would he even know if I went in there?”
That thought started a snowball effect and manifested a secret Willow was keeping locked behind those doors. Each day she grew more worried that her secret would be revealed, but she clung on to the breath that was given to her in those four walls and grew to be brave once again.
That room was all hers, and now it would be the piece to help her escape.

The Sims 4 Experiences Challenge
Are you sick of doing the same old thing every time you play the Sims? Do you find yourself falling into the same routine every time you play and inevitably getting bored of the gameplay? Are there expansion/game packs that you’ve bought, but never really played much because you struggled figuring out how to incorporate it into your gameplay? Or maybe, you’re like me, and just get super overwhelmed with all the options for things to do in the Sims, so you just end up doing what’s familiar and comfortable?
Say hello to the Sims 4 Experiences Challenge! I created this challenge specifically to get the most use out of every expansion/game pack in the Sims 4 (to date). I’ll keep adding on to it whenever a new one comes out. This Legacy-type challenge will focus on one major expansion, or several small ones, each generation and require your Sims to complete a variety of requirements to live out their lives very differently from their predecessors. The goal is that it will help you get out of your comfort zone and get you to experience the most out of your gameplay and what the Sims 4 has to offer. So, without further ado…
Rules:
Try to avoid using any cheats/mods that grant money or items, cheat needs, free upgrades/repairs, free Reward Store purchases, no bills, etc. Basically, if your Sim is supposed to work for it in game, they should do it the legit way. Cheats/Mods that just make the game function better or fix bugs/glitches are fine.
If your Sims move to a new lot/buy a new house, they must pay for that lot/house. If they can’t afford the house, cheat it, then remove all their money except $2500.
Lifespan must be set to Normal, Aging must be turned on (with the exception of storytelling stuff, as needed). MCCC is allowed (recommended honestly for story progression).
If you don’t own an expansion, skip that generation. Otherwise, play through the generations in order.
For every generation, you must complete the Aspiration and reach the top of the Career track, unless otherwise stated.
Each generation must have at least one child to be the heir for the next gen. You can choose any of your Sim’s children as the heir. The other children kinda sorta don’t matter (except in the Parenthood generation). Do whatever you want with them. Same goes with spouses.
Like the infamous Not So Berry Challenge (which loosely inspired me to make this challenge), your Sims have to fit a certain color theme for each generation, and also a specific clothing style. It’s not 100% necessary, obviously, but it provides interesting goals in CAS and will encourage you to try out items you might not have used before. Plus, it adds a nice touch of cohesiveness to their story. :)
If you play this challenge and want to share it, tag it with #sims4exp so we can see!
Generation One : Base Game : Yellow
You couldn’t wait to move out and get as far away from your podunk little hometown as soon as possible. Right when you turned 18, you worked up the nerve and finally did it, packing your things and taking the first step toward independence and fulfilling your dream of becoming a rock star! Unfortunately, you definitely burned some bridges along the way, and now… your family won’t even speak to you. At least you worked your butt off and managed to save up a nice chunk of change to make the move possible, but after buying your first bit of property… there’s not much left. Now you’re in a new, unfamiliar world with no money, no family, no friends, and no idea what to do next. Can you make it on your own and build yourself up from nothing, or will you get desperate and turn to a life of crime to make ends meet?
Aspiration: Fabulously Wealthy Career: Criminal (Boss Branch) Traits: Materialistic, Kleptomaniac, Creative Appearance: Homeless/Basic. Started from the bottom, now you’re here. You literally moved out from home, barely legal, with nothing but a couple of bucks in your pocket and a head full of dreams. Decent clothes aren’t really in the budget.
Requirements:
Buy an empty lot, set money to $2,000, use as much of it as possible to get the basics (choose wisely!), then set money down to $0
Cannot get a job until at least $2,500 on hand
Max the Mischief, Handiness, and [any Instrument] skills
Earn >$500 from song royalties as you try to make your way
Eventually give up your dreams of stardom & join the Criminal career
Must steal 5 pieces of furniture worth at least $500 each to prove yourself to the mob boss
Have 3 Enemies and an “It’s Very Complicated” relationship
Have an "Enemies with Benefits” relationship, and eventually marry them
Cannot move-in partner/get married until at least Level 5 in career track

First Date/Magnolia Family Part 4/FDC
Cameron and Jo hit it off so well during their lunchtime walk, that they made plans for dinner that night. Joanna hadn’t been on a date in awhile, but Cam had a way of making her feel at ease and calm. There was something about him that she really enjoyed, even though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. Maybe it was just how he made her feel, calm and reassured.
Whatever it was, Jo hoped that this would be the first date of many. She threw out Mr. Coffee Spillers business card in a trash bin in the park after Cam left their walk to head back into work. Even if Cam wasn’t “the one”, she knew she wanted to continue to seek out guys that made her feel this wonderful.
She wanted butterflies and warmth. And Cam was serving up plenty of both.
First Dinner Party Fail/Magnolia Family Part 3/FDC
One minute Joanna was on the phone chatting with Savannah, her newfound friend and barista...
“I know the CUTEST guy! Seriously. He’s a bit childish, but overall I think you’ll really hit it off. We should totally have a little get together and I’ll invite him over!”
Now, Jo was sitting at a table she had to pull out of storage and set up in the living room to accommodate all her new “friends”. Cameron was there, obviously. And he WAS cute. She found herself getting locked into conversations with him that were so easy and effortless, that the surroundings seem to just melt around her.
She was interested, but she couldn’t help but think about the guy she met a few days ago in the cafe where Savannah worked. She was waiting for Savannah to get off of work so they could go shopping for a new home decor things she needed when he bumped into her, spilling a few drops of coffee. He sighed heavily, looking disturbed, then caught sight of her and recovered with a smile. They chatted for a few minutes before he had to get going, handing her his business card and asking her to call. Jo waved him by with a smile, unsure of what to think of the stranger, and resolved to ask Savannah all about it.
For now, though, she was really enjoying Cameron’s company. He invited her to the park tomorrow for a walk on his lunch break. She could definitely see things progresses with this quiet & charming man, but only time would tell.
I’m loving this challenge so much! Remember, rules here !
For Gen 1, one of the goals is to complete at least five gold-level dinner parties...
Let’s just say this “didn’t even hit silver’ dinner party was a big fat fail.
But, hey, It was still fun!
Hope y’all are loving this challenge and seeing Jo’s story develop as much as I do!
“books and words are this century’s alchemy and pixie dust. they’re the only magic we have. but what a magic.”
Magnolia Family: Home Starts Here
Playing through the family dynamics challenge found here
and previous parts here
Joanna was exhausted from her first week of scrubbing dishes in the heat of the kitchen, her clothes always caked with food and sweat at the end of each late night. Through the work though, she found something incredibly invigorating. The noises of the kitchen were like a breath of air to her soul, and she knew there was nowhere else she would rather be. So, if it took cleaning dishes every single night to make her way to that head chef station, she would do it with joy.
Today, her first day off, she set out to start making this new town her home and meet the locals. She threw on some real clothes, shedding her sweats and flour covered T-shirt, and made her way to the local coffee shop. She had her journal tucked in her bag, ready to write all about this journey from start to finish. As the cool air swam over her through the open door, she noticed the shop was still and quiet. She hid her disappointment and went up to the counter to order.
“Um... hello?” she said, peeking around the service bar to see if anyone was even working here.
“One second! Sorry!” Came a joyful, sing-song voice from the back, a note of struggle in the last syllables.
She smiled to herself as a row of coffee sleeves came flying out the door, behind them a tall woman with her hair floating wildly, framing her face and flushed cheeks. The woman made her way to the counter, tripping over the boxes and sleeves on the way and laughing at herself.
“Sorry about that, “ She laughed. I’m not great with balance. Or carrying things. Or pretty much anything that requires gravity”
Jo laughed, finding something so familiar in this new stranger, something that gave her contentment, even though they just met.
“Pretty busy today, huh?” Jo smiled back, extending her arms to showcase the empty tables and chairs.
“Oh ya, there’s a 5k race downtown today. It will keep us quiet in here for another hour or so! But, you’re here! So what can I get you?”
It had been at least two hours since Joanna walked into the cafe, although it had only felt like moments. Savannah, the clumsy yet bubbly barista, and Jo had hit it off so well, that they had moved their conversation from the counter to the nearest table and were chatting like old friends.
Just then the door opened and a few new patrons came bustling in.
“Well, I guess that’s me,” Savannah said, standing and smoothing her apron out. She paused before digging in the flap and pulling out a pen and paper.
“Here’s my number! We should hang out again soon! It was nice meeting you Jo” She smiled, dropping the paper in Jo’s extended hand before turning towards the counter.
“Absolutely!” Jo said, unable to contain her enthusiasm. She gave her a quick wave and set back out into the warm air towards home. She smiled to herself, thinking about how everything was fitting into place. This really was starting to feel like home.
Part 3 coming soon!
