I've been messing with the idea of Derlorde physically changing due to being slammed with the semi of infinite knowledge. What if his changes dramatically intensify when him and the king merge?
The body already had to physically change to keep him alive with all this knowledge, because his very cells are marked with the king's visage. His sight is deteriorating, one of his eyes is completely sightless due to the overload of just looking at it. There's probably more, but looking away from the computer simply hurts too much to think about.
Now the very thing that changed him, is a part of him. He should be in excruciating pain. He should be dead. But... When Derlorde wakes, he's- fine? Sort of. His vision is back, the pain is gone. Something is very different though. The king is in his mind, a prison, the world is safe... But now he's starting to change again, more rapidly. His form grows increasingly incomprehensible, he can't go outside anymore. Not like this.
When he logs back on to his computer, he beelines to Avery. To tell him he's okay. He's been passed out for a week, a month, maybe more... The king can definitely speak to him, but seems self-contained by how his mind already adapted to infinite knowledge. At least, it seems that way.
Avery is ecstatic to see him, he's not dead, he's alive but... Is he well? Even Derek isn't too sure. He's... Definitely not human anymore. Can he even go outside? Does he even want to risk sending Avery an image? Well... At least they can keep going on adventures...
I think we all want Derek to be okay, and I feel this might be the most feasible way to accomplish it! Feel free to build on this idea I'm just playing around with my tuoys #mytuoys
