Got a box of mighty handsome Ashland cassettes from @ztapes delivered to us by our ever lovely post lady. This little bunch will be available at upcoming shows, but you can get yr copy now from the Z Tapes interwebs headquarters!
While we wait for a box of Ashland tapes to find its way home to us (you can snatch one off Z Tapes Records today, along with a ton of other really killer tunes) our LPs are here, are shipping now, and just might be the prettiest goddamn thing we’ve ever seen! Should you grab one? Yes, yes you should.
Each record is hand-numbered and packaged in a cosy jacket screen printed by Chris Robertson at Lost Cat Press. Inserts include an ethically harvested feather, a 5X5 inch picture (see this previous post) while we have 'em, an adorable Paper Dove Records sticker, and little card featuring our pigeon captain, Churp.
So what else has been going on? Some shows, for one. EP’s been trying out his new outfit, Weeping Witch, with co-conspirator Cherie Pyne. A louder (much louder) Ashland, with one hundred percent more witches! Should be another one coming up shortly. So-so pictures, but hey, that’s punk right?
Think we’ve got a box of tapes waiting for us at the post office. More on that sooooon.
Some time ago it was decided that a limited number of LPs would come with the added bonus of a five by five printed insert, tucked into a scarlet red envelope. We first settled for twenty-five, then twenty-five became fifty ... Anyways, here they are.

Haven’t updated Tumblr in so long! The virgo in us can’t bear the thought of simply turning the page, but feels compelled to step back in time a little, to bring us back to the present in a chronological fashion. Stand by ...

premiere // Ashland - EP
My favorite pieces of music are often the ones I understand the least. They’re the albums where the artist doesn’t have to come right out and declare their sadness or anxiety, it’s felt, their every emotion reflected from beginning to end. From the very moment I pressed play on this Paper Dove Records and Z-Tapes release of EP’s Ashland I felt the whole world slip away. This album is so special - it lifts you straight into the buzzing minds of this Newfoundland-based act, the journey unraveling and unwinding into something completely unexpected. We don’t need for Ashland to expose it all, for the band to utter their every thought, instead the release carefully reveals all we need to know, and what a beautiful reveal it is.

Some Pill Friends goodies from Out of Breath Records arrived in the mail yesterday. We’d just about forgotten about it. How is it that this record is not sold out yet?
Meanwhile, as our own project remains shrouded in secrecy, a revolution in cassette culture quietly takes shape.
In addition to our upcoming vinyl release, if all goes according to plan, Ashland should also see a cassette release through our beloved Slovakian label Z Tapes! We couldn’t be happier with this turn of events.
Our flock's also digging Z Tapes. This one's long gone (Euphoria Again - Bedroom Recordings AKA best thing ever), but Foxes Academy's Elsie & Nice Legs’ Lullaby Land are pretty much all you need this summer anyhow.
