“And if you didn’t make me go for these walks in the first place I wouldn’t have to worry about us being there already. Why can’t you like indoors?”

"Because the indoors are boring. Outside there are animals and adventure. No one found adventure in their dorm room."

“Is that a requirement?” He asked. Jase hadn’t heard that he had to but he honestly slept through orientation every year. “Right, Cinderella, big on the mice thing.” He nodded slowly. He hadn’t talked to Cynthia much but she seemed nice enough, and she was certainly nice to look at.

“No, but it’s a good thing to do. I take it that you don’t do community service that often then?” Cynthia nodded then. “Yeah, Cinderella Charming, beautiful ruler of her kingdom and kindest soul known to man it seems.”

"No, no I don't. My parents and I do a soup kitchen thing at Christmas to remind me of my dads roots." He shrugged. He didn't think of that as community service, just normal. "Is she the kindest?" He asked.

“I would follow the breadcrumbs back home, but that’s just me.” Eramis commented, standing up and brushing the leaves from her pants. “If you were lost, I would suggest asking for help, but since you’re definitely not, I guess this is goodbye.” She chirped, turning to go.

“Wait - if one were lost, which direction would they go if they didn’t actually leave breadcrumbs? I mean people don’t really leave breadcrumbs, do they? That has to be a joke.”

"Hansel and Gretal definitely left breadcrumbs. My uncle was a good friend of Hansel." She shrugged. "If one were lost, I would suggest he head north." Eramis watched him. "Assuming he knew his directions.

“During dinner. Obviously. Or during class.” Gaspard answered, looking Madeline up and down slowly. “Or if someone were to create a distraction, I’m sure that would pull her away for a pretty significant amount of time.”

“Yeah? And how good are you at creating distractions?”

"I'm pretty amazing at distractions." Gaspard confirmed. "All I have to do is whip off my shirt and everyone is mesmerized."

“Honestly I think the thing I miss most about home is the beach. I could spend forever out in the water, surfing, or even just enjoying the sun… there is no surfing out here in Auradon.”

“There’s also no shade here in Auradon. Why do you have to love the sun constantly and forever again? It’s terrible and honestly, it burns. We should have just stayed inside like I wanted to and then I wouldn’t be actually roasting right now.”

“Huh?” Jase looked up when he realized she was talking to him and he slipped the watch into his pocket. “It’d be great if Fairy Godmother could get to me a little more quickly. I really don’t want to spend the rest of my day in here.” He crossed over to her desk, looking at the paperwork on her desk. “Do they pay you for this?” He asked curiously. 

“Huh? Oh, no. It’s part of my community service good deed type of stuff. My mom always says that it’s important to keep a good work ethic and they needed an assistant in the office. I do get an extra elective out of it so I don’t have to do something boring like wood crafting or animal taming. No offense to those that actually do the animal taming thing. My mom used to have mice that helped her out and that was fine, but I’m kind of afraid of rodents.”

“If you say so.” Eramis shrugged, starting to stand, She stretched her arms over her head and stretched her back out. “Then I won’t hold you up, enjoy your walk.” She knew he was lost. She’d lived out in the woods most of her life, she knew the look people got when they couldn’t find their way in the woods, 

“Let’s just say that I was lost. How would I actually get back to the castle?” It had been way too long since he was supposed to meet that girl and if she hadn’t gone back home already, she was crazy. Now he just needed to find his way back home as well. “I’m just asking in the general sense, you know, cause I’m really not lost.”

“Maybe if you help me pull this off, you can have whatever it is your dirty little mind is thinking up in there.” Madeline knew that boys looked at her. She was lucky in a way that not every girl in this godforsaken kingdom was. While some of the princesses were still in proper ladylike outfits that covered way too much, Madeline was all for showing a little skin. She certainly had the body for it too. “Now then, I need to know when Fairy Godmother is out of her office most during the day. Think you can do that for me?”

“No, I’m not lost. I just was going for a walk and I figured - well I just was out for a walk.” Truthfully Aaron had been out to meet a girl, but she didn’t need to know that. She also didn’t need to know that he had no idea where he was. “I like walking at night. It’s relaxing.”

“Good because I’m not part of any stupid Tourney team.” Madeline removed the lollipop that she had been sucking on from her mouth and tossed it into the nearest trashcan. “I actually had something far better in mind to put your muscles towards.” Licking her bright red lips, she made a show of checking the boy out before leaning against the doorway. “I’m thinking of pulling a little prank. Interested?”

“I’m sure no one really is thinking that you took anything, Jase. It’s just that everything has to be looked into and with all of the misbehavior that has been going on lately, it’s really important that the headmistress take things seriously.” Cynthia smiled shyly then before stamping a few more files from the pile that she had to get done before the day was over. Doing some work at the front desk took time out of her social schedule, but it was worth it to be helping out. “I’m sure you’ll be fine and out in no time.”

“Huh?” Jase looked up when he realized she was talking to him and he slipped the watch into his pocket. “It’d be great if Fairy Godmother could get to me a little more quickly. “For the millionth time, I won’t join your stupid Tourney team.” Gaspard closed his eyes, leaning back in the chair he was occupying in the library. He was assuming whoever came up behind him was from the team, they’d been after him since he showed up. “Seriously- oh.” He had gotten up, spinning around, stopping as he realized it wasn’t who he expected.

“I’m here because a few things were stolen and of course, everyone suspects the son of the street rat.” Jase leaned against the wall. “I mean, yeah that stuff showed up in my dorm room but really anyone could have put them there.” He shrugged as the person he was talking to walked away and he shook his head, toying with the watch he’d taken from their wrist.
