9x17 I Got You Babe

I have mixed feelings about this episode. Because I hate what they did with Theo and what will most probably happen. It is such lazy writing and such bad timing.

On the other hand, as an episode, it was pretty amazing. Great writing. Beautiful acting. Nice pace. Good twists.

The Maddie part was kinda the least interesting one. But it is good that she is struggling in the new position and only slowly finding her footing. It is a big adjustment and it is more then just her being right for the job. The context of it is something she needs to figure out herself. And it might be interesting to watch.

The imigrant storyline and the Russian mob and crooked cop, who was indeed crooked, was a bit in the background but it moved just enough and was woven into the main story really well. Though if they really didn't plan on including Eddie, then the writers really need a big refresher on their character over the hiatus. Not only Eddie. But especially him. And Buck as a close second.

And now onto the donor baby mess. The introduction was really fun. And it was also good how throughout the episode the tone shifted from funny, to concerning to tragic. But having Connor and Cameron die is such cheap trick. They could have introduced Theo into the narrative without making him an orphan.

I also really hated how they basically came at Buck with Our kid is broken. Is it your fault?

It's like the writers forgot where his recklessness comes from in the first place. Sure, he is impulsive. But the reckless part is trauma response he is learning to heal from. And them implying it is just innate? Come on, do better. And stop saying he is dumb. He is more than just a big heart. he is smart and thinks fast on his feet.

I loved the Maddie, Buck and Theo scene. Oliver and Jennifer do such good job playing the love and care and them as a unit.

I wonder if Buck asking about keeping up with Theo is a foreshadowing of Theo ending with him. Or Theo ending with a next of kin and Buck now staying in his life.

I loved how Eddie was woven into the Theo story. They really are a pair, do not separate. I just wonder if this is supposed to be a Buddie catalyst. Or another excuse to put them on a back-burner.

And Athena better be OK. But now my money is on the son. There was no other reason to introduce him. I hope this is one storyline that doesn't go into next season. But I fear it will.

BOTS AND SCAM COMMENTS ON AO3

WHAT THEY ARE AND HOW TO SPOT THEM

okay, I thought I should make this post since there has been an influx of scammers plaguing AO3 comments section and people are falling victims to them. so here it is;

WHAT THEY ARE

so far, there are three main types of these scam bots

bots that tell you AO3 is deleting works, and that you should delete the works yourself because your entire account will be affected if your works get deleted by AO3

bots that tell you your works are terrible

bots that tell you they want to draw comic panels from your works

ALL OF THESE ARE SCAM WITH MALICE INTENTIONS

bots that tell you AO3 is deleting works, and that you should delete the works yourself because your entire account will be affected if your works get deleted by AO3 are just trying to get you to delete your works, most certainly because they want to steal and/or use your works to train their AI and, once you delete your works, it becomes extremely difficult, almost impossible for you to claim ownership of your works when the original works have been deleted. AO3 IS NOT DELETING ANY WORKS.

bots that tell you they want to draw comic panels from your works are trying to hack your password, personal data and credit card information (they will say they see potentials in your work and are interested in drawing comic panels from it, and then they will ask you to discuss this with them on discord where you will have to pay/commission them for the “comics” you will never get, but you will get your password hacked, personal data and credit card information breached and stolen instead, do not fall for them).

HOW TO SPOT THEM

what all these 3 types of bots have in common is that;

most of them (keyword, most, not all) are guest users or empty accounts that have just been recently created.

their comments are all the same copied and pasted scripts that they mass leave on lots of authors’ works at random.

they will ask you to contact them outside of ao3 by giving you their discord, or instagram, or other social media handle.

their comments are all vague, in the sense that there will be no mention of any specific characters’ names, no mention of any specific scenes or events from your works (granted, they need to be vague because they are bots, they never actually read your works, and they have to be able to use the same comments on other writers’ works too).

EDIT: I’ve been told they got “smarter” and are now mentioning characters by names and also specific scenes from the story. Most definitely because they ran your fic through AI and let AI write comments for them. So basically, if a comment, from someone you don’t know, ends in something along the lines of “I’d like to draw a comic panel about this”, “can we chat on discord (or anywhere outside of ao3)” or anything that’d require your email or other personal information, always assume that it’s 90% a scam.

report them for spam then delete their comments when/if you get them.

please spread this if you can. us writers gotta look out for each other. stay safe, everybody ♡

Stranger Things S5 rant

So me and my friend ( @blue-samurai88 , props credits and kudos to their contributions) talked a lot about Stranger Things and came to the conclusion that the Duffers are evil geniuses. Emphasis on evil. They never wanted to patch things up in the final season so that it would be satisfying. They never wanted to make the story clever and detailed with lots of amazing twists. Sure they hinted at it, put in details that lead to nothing, but eventually we are only left with more questions and the feeling that the characters deserved better.

You want to know why they did this on purpose?

BECAUSE THIS MEANS MORE ENGAGEMENT.

If the show had lived up to our expectations it surely would have been amazing and we would have talked about how everything fell into its place in the end, and marvel at the clever twists and careful details, and be happy for satisfying character endings. Then after a while the hype would have died out. Stranger Things would simply be put on the shelf as a great story we feel nostalgic about and maybe rewatch every five or ten years if ever. HOWEVER since there are so many unanswered questions, so many useless details, so many inconsistencies, so many character arcs gone to the gutter and so many ships turned into bones: we as fans have a burning desire for correction. For trying to make sense or give new sense to the show. So we theorize, we write fix-it fanfics, we make fan arts, edits, videos of analysations or even just rants. And ofcourse rewatch the show multiple times to try and make sense of it all. However the satsifaction that could have come from the show never quite happens this way. So to ease this feeling of being tricked or let down we bury ourselves in the fandom and this way the fandom lives way longer than it would have otherwise. SINCE THE FANDOM DOESN’T DIE THE ENGAGEMENT WITH THE SHOW DOES NOT STOP. Streaming of it won’t stop, buying merch won’t stop, it may be reduced in comparison to when the show was still going, but not as drastically as it would have otherwise.

THE DUFFERS MADE SURE THAT STRANGER THINGS LIVES ON AND IS TALKED ABOUT AND STREAMED FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE BY LEAVING US TO PICK UP THE PIECES.

This is the same thing that happened to Voltron btw.

It may have been about creating something beautiful in the early seasons but it ended up becoming a tool for the Duffers to get even richer. We became their tool.

The more interviews i see the more im convinced of this. Hell they are saying it themselves: "its up to the fans to decide" about literally 3/4 of the things. If El is alive, if Robin and Vickie are together, what happened to Murray or Erica. They also solve the majority of the plotholes with "i dont know" or "i guess" (tf u mean u guess u wrote the show). Basically the ending is that we can come up with it ourselves. Which leaves us theorizing and writing for and instead of them. Like i said: its all about continuous engagement - and ultimately stuffing their pockets.

I just found out that there's a term for creating a detailed imaginary world in one's mind. It's called paracosm and I'm kind of shook that it has a name?? did y'all know about this and didn't tell me?

I always thought it's just a thing creative people did?? like i thought that's what writers did to make their own worlds and stories but apparently, while it's a similar thing, it's also something separate? And maladaptive daydreaming is also a different thing!! (as far as I understood)

I watched a video about it and the woman in it said something about the difference between paracosms and worldbuilding (to her) that I related to, which was that once an idea comes to her mind regarding her world, it is accepted as a fact and doesn't change. I've always struggled with changing "facts" about my world or names of characters once my brain declared "this is a thing that exists now."

The funny thing is I literally have draft in tumblr written since June, that in short says, "am i the only one who struggles to change things in their stories" and I never posted because I didn't know how to word it correctly and how to convey what I meant, and it's funny reading it back now. But I had to learn to change things when I started writing, because with writing, it needed to make sense, whereas in my head, it was all about the vibes. Regardless of paracosms, I'm sure my fellow writers understand this struggle too.

I also read that paracosms happened in childhood but for me it was more teenage years, and I only really started writing because I wanted the world I created in my mind to get out of my head and become something tangible. It's why I think of writing as medium to tell my stories, because while I love writing, my true passion is making stories. Even if they're just in my head.

It makes even more sense now why I'm so protective over my world, characters, and their stories. Why I didn't even tell anyone, like my close friends and family, that I write for a long time, even though I wanted to. Because I didn't want to publish my work, but still wanted to share the joy it brought me. I genuinely think it kept—still keeping—me sane, and if I didn't have this world and these silly little characters in my brain, I might be doing drugs right about now even though I sometimes lose sleep thinking about them

Anyway and a crazy thought occurred to me while reading about this: some people are really out there living without having an imaginary world in their mind. Bonkers man. I wonder what's that like. What do they think about before going to bed? Taxes?
