GEORGIA ANN MULDROW
Born to musical parents in Los Angeles, California, Georgia Anne Muldrow surrounded by music of all types and origins. To this very day she carries the same spirit. That makes her instrumentation and songwriting so unique. She has worked with trailblazing underground artists such as Dudley Perkins, Rickie Byars Beckwith, Madlib, Wildchild, M. E. D. , Big Pooh, Prince Po, The Visionaries, Casual, Jimetta Rose, and Eagle Nebula as well as commercial artists like Mos Def and Erykah Badu. Georgia is part of the new generation of musicians who can produce, rap and most amazingly sing. She won the World Wide Music Awards Best Jazz Album of the year for her solo album Ocotea in 2011. When we asked her to remix Suite for Ma Dukes she told us "Im going to do it like I was sitting in that night with the Orchestra..."

HIROSHI SUGIMOTO
Since the 1970s, Sugimoto has worked on his photo-series entitled, Theaters, in which he photographs auditoriums of American movie theaters, and drive-in movies, during showings. The exposure time used for the photograph corresponds with the projection time of the film. This allows him to save the duration of the entire film in a single shot. What remains visible of the film’s time-compressed, individual images is the bright screen of the movie theater, which illuminates the architecture of the space. That its content retreats into the background makes the actual film a piece of information, manifesting itself in the (movie theater) space. As a result, instead of as a content-related event, film presents itself here as the relationship between time and spatial perception.
"One night I had an idea while I was at the movies: to photograph the film itself. I tried to imagine photographing an entire feature film with my camera. I could already picture the projection screen making itself visible as a white rectangle. In my imagination, this would appear as a glowing, white rectangle; it would come forward from the projection surface and illuminate the entire theater. This idea struck me as being very interesting, mysterious, and even religious."

TV Buddha (1974) - Nam June Paik Paik's possibly most famous video work was produced as a gap-filler for an empty wall in his fourth show in the Galeria Bonino, New York. Shortly before the opening, he hit upon the idea of making a TV viewer out of an antique Buddha statue once purchased as an investment. The subsequent addition of a video camera meant the Buddha now watched his videotaped image on the screen opposite – past and present gaze upon each other in an encounter between Oriental deity and Western media. During the 'Projekt '74' exhibition in Cologne, Paik took the Buddha’s place in his recent creation, suggesting the implicit antithesis between transcendentalism and technology was equally present in his own personality.

Even if you’ve never seen Brian Cross aka B+ in person, you’ve definitely seen his photography. Starting in the early 1990s, B+ has become one of the premier music photographers of the past 20 years, especially (but hardly exclusively) in the hip-hop community.
B+ is also one-half of the L.A.-based production outfit, Mochilla, who’ve put out the renown Keepintime, Brasilintime and Timeless series. And, he’s author of one of the best books ever written about hip-hop in L.A., It’s Not About a Salary.1 Suffice to say, of all the folks I’ve met through the Cali music scene over the last 15 years, B is one of the folks whose work and dedication is a constant source of respect and amazement.
He was kind enough to roll through the home studio on a sweltering July day and though, ostensibly, I wanted to have him contribute to the summer songs series, I also wanted to use the opportunity to talk about his career arc (I, for one, had no idea he was a former student and protege of Mike Davis though that fact suddenly made total sense to me in the context of his work), his interest in South American music, culture and people, and the greatest that is Labi Siffre. (In a special “bonus beats” section after the formal podcast ends, we also rap about his working with Damian Marley, bringing more Timeless shows back, and why you’ll have to pry his Hasselblad from his cold, dead fingers.
