Look, to expand upon this; I know that this post was flagged solely for the art on the right, most likely for containing “blood”. Honestly, I’d thought the Purge was gonna be about nudity or w/e but here we are.
“But how do you know it was flagged for blood,” you ask? Well, these two arts were originally fun, time-wasting recolours of Another art that I did:
But hey, you notice something odd here? Yeah. This image is ALSO under appeal now! The only thing these pieces have in common is the appearance of “blood” (though technically the pokemon piece was supposed to follow the themes of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2's Blue/Red/Green pallets (ie. PMD's Time/Darkness/Sky games) which is why the top left image has similar splotches of light blue splatter on the pokemon, but that’s besides the point).
(Sidenote: I probably should have taken a screenshot before clicking the Appeal button, but the fact is I only realised this was flagged AFTER I discovered the recolour had been flagged! It wasn’t even in the new “Review Flagged Posts” section! I found it manually by allowing my paranoia to drive into checking ALL of my art posts and -- Surprise, surprise! -- I found both this piece and a completely unrelated, but similarly bloody, Samurai Jack art had both been flagged!)
Now, I understand that some people (kids, ppl with haemophobia, etc) might not be comfortable with seeing “blood”. But here’s the thing:
I HAD ALREADY CONSIDERED THAT AND TAGGED IT! Do you know what that means?? That means that anyone who does not want to see “blood” can blacklist the tag, preventing them from seeing any of my art that contains blood! It ALSO means that people who actually consent to seeing blood can view my art!
I do not need a trigger happy bot to flag my art, making it invisible to LITERALLY EVERYONE, when there are already much better safety systems in place for this!
And before anyone can say “Oh, but you didn’t tag the Pokemon art with “blood”, but the bot caught it! That’s good, right?” Please look at these older arts of mine that weren’t flagged, but WERE tagged with “blood”:
Tumblr’s new system assumes that I cannot tag my own content correctly. It assumes that viewers are not intelligent enough to blacklist content that they do not want to see. It assumes that, instead of viewers being able to make their own decisions about the content that they are comfortable with viewing, its user base is not mature enough to decide what kind of media they want to consume, so it perma-blocks art like mine from ever being viewed by ANYONE unless I constantly appeal it. And even then, the system for finding these flagged posts is broken! How am I supposed to find out my art is flagged if you’re not even going to sort it into the box specifically designed to house these automatically flagged posts??
This system is not only incompetent, It assumes that both I and the entire Tumblr userbase are incompetent. And so, I must say it again
