ACT O1 . BORN WITH BAD BLOOD. victor von brandr, you were fascinated by the grand scheme of life, your true purpose. idealizing godhood, you valued the ever - ominous presence of darkness, cared for it lovingly like a babe. you reject your birth parents, your family -- they are not your true family. you realized this at the age of sixteen. so, you set yourself up for greatness : eliminate all threats & hindrances. you became a killer, sacrifice your mother & father to a dark deity. but you were not his true vessel, the sacrifice was made in vain.
ACT O2 . TO BECOME A GOD. you must see if becoming a god is possible. so, you enlist your friend, CAYDEN the boy who confided in you that he spoke with dark spirits at a young age. you thought, perhaps if you found the god’s true vessel he would grant you powers. you offer him as a sacrifice to become the god’s host in a ritual of the dark church. you slit his throat with a silver knife until the altar is filled with his blood. in an instant he is reborn a god, and you, still mortal, revel in the beauty / desire the same power as he. he is called EREBUS, calamity’s deity.
ACT O3 . ET TU, BRUTE? your twin brother, ARVID, had witnessed the ritual you’ve taken part in. he now deems you a heretic, realizing that you killed your parents. when he confronts you, you still hold in your hand the knife that killed your best friend. so, you kill your brother at the same altar. His body falls into the pile of other corpses left in EREBUS’ WAKE.
ACT O4 . THE METAMORPHOSIS. you are the SOLE SURVIVOR of the wrathful deity’s massacre. perhaps, he spared you for a reason? you take the knife to your own heart, press until skin breaks. you bleed , but you still breathe. you realize you have been granted immortality. the god whispers to you : “ the ritual performed has granted you such power, not i. as you now share a connection to chaos. without the ritual performer, chaos cannot live / without chaos you cannot live.”
so, after the slaughter, you walk back into the town, telling the scared townspeople that EREBUS seeks revenge on those who wrong him. worship him or suffer the same fate as those who’ve been slain. both you & chaos gain more power with a following, a flock. they ask your name, the survivor of god’s wrath, the chosen one. you remember your twin’s brother’s corpse, ( you see an opportunity to shed the life you once had. ) so, you become ARVID VON BRANDR, the man who sought the world.
