SHYNESS
Part of you is gripped by the fear that youâll launch into something and completely mess it up. The upside of this is wise caution: people are indeed often too rash, whereas you know, by instinct, that holding back can save you. Probably, you feel shame and self-disgust a bit too much. But when you do feel in your element, you act with a wisdom and sensitivity never found in people with thicker skins.
PLAYFULNESS
You are good at seeing whatâs funny, at relaxing and finding the pleasure of the moment. Play is random, whimsical, fantasy-driven behaviour which releases internal tension. Because it is detached from some pressures it allows you to act on weirder, perhaps neglected, parts of yourself. The downside is that it is no help in sticking with things that are not much fun but which need to be addressed. So it is well complemented by its opposite, Stoicism.
DEFENSIVENESS
One tendency in you â which is of course normal to the human race â is to bristle when criticised, and to defend yourself when you feel under threat from aggression or blame. Defensiveness can make you conceal your less honourable motives, from others, and from yourself. The habits once made sense: they all derive from past efforts to protect yourself. And most of the time â because we donât get much help in loving ourselves â you still need them to feel secure.

Flash wouldnât say heâs the sentimental type. In fact, he does a good job at keeping any and almost all of his true emotions hidden well underneath the persona of aloofness and the general good guy can-do attitude. But there was a lot underneath that, a lot that he never felt like dealing with most days.
Except today isnât most days.Â
Somehow, heâd found himself at a bar. The tumbler of whiskey sat in front of him, untouched. His stomach felt sour as his mind dragged him, forcibly, through the memories of his father. There was nothing positive he could say about the dodgy old son of a bitch, but somehow, he found himself aching as the anniversary of his death rolled around again.
Weird, its almost like time kept moving despite how Flash tried to dig his heels in. With a stiff sniffle and resulting sigh, he finally picked up his drink and downed it.Â
âYou look a little young to be in here. You gonna say somethinâ or you gonna keep staring at me like that?â He didnât need to start a fight. But he also didnât need anyones pity, either.Â

஠= slapping them.
âNo! No, doc, no! Iâve told you a thousand and one times that Iâm fine, you keep insisting things are wrong with me and that theres this that and the other and that Iâve got this going on but I can stand, Iâm not bleedinâ, Iâm not dyinâ! Honestly Iâd be suspicious you were running all these tests just to drive up my bill but since this is a free clinic now I gotta really wonder if it just gets you going-âÂ
Smack.Â
Yeah okay. He was going into some shitty territory. He deserved that. Flash let the symbiote wind down to reveal the smaller form, and Flash had to glare from under the black eye and blood dripping from his eyebrow.Â
âJust. Get on with it. I have things I have to go do.âÂ

IT'S BEEN NICE KNOWING YOU, PAL

drsawbonesmccoy:
âJust doing my job, Flash. But yourâe welcome. Like I said beforeâŚ.youâre going to need to lay down. While you didnât break any bones, you got real close to it and Iâd rather you not go back out when your bodies still tender.â
Well. Better do what the man says. Heâs gotten yelled at once already, and the guy seems like he has no problem doing it again. Flash gave McCoy a meek nod and laid back down on the bed, staring emptily up at the ceiling.
âSo... Brought into the clinic by a random kind civilian. Wonât that make for a cool story on tinder. You seem pretty chill with it though. Get a lot of pity cases like this, doc?âÂ
baddestdangerboy:
He canât believe heâs getting any of these lectures. From  a guy, anywayâ heâs used to this sort of thing from Seras, its just the way she is. Maybe thatâs sexist too, for him to think so, hmmmâŚcould just be her though.Â
âWhat do you think Iâm doing? I gotta survive here, I ainât here to make friends.â Just contacts, not technically friends. But people he generally does have to tolerate and not get to shit on him. Or shit on them, vise versa.Â
âAlmost expected rainbows and puppy dogs outta you, though. Thereâs nothing to be positive about aside from living to see tomorrow.â
âMaking friends could be the world of difference between you and survival, though. Ever think of that?â Damn. Where is that train? He leaned the best he could in his chair to see if he could see the thing coming, thin tendrils snaking out from under his coat to latch onto the bars of the chair to keep him stable.Â
Flash settled back in his chair and sighed. Rainbows and puppy dogs, huh?
âWell Iâll be the first to tell you shit sucks and then you die, but, as I said-- no use in trying to sit and wallow in your misery. And Iâm sure theres something you gotta like here. Even if its something small, just something that makes it worth getting out of the house--âÂ
He made a face, his mouth scrunching to the side and then he turned his chair to get a better look at the kid.
â... Like. Schwarmas. I know a place out in 004 that makes killer schwarmas. Even if its pointless and youâre just getting out of the house to get some food, then youâve at least done something with your time. And who knows what happens once youâre out and about. Itâs cheesy, I know, and when I was your age I hated old people trying to tell me what to do but... It works. I promise.âÂ
âWe escape narrow doom and suddenly everyones out getting wasted. Donât ever let anyone tell you guys know nothing about celebration.âÂ
drsawbonesmccoy:
McCoy smiles at that, chuckling. âWell, someone who gets it on the first try. Good, cause Iâm not in the business of repeating myself.â
âIâm Dr. McCoy, and youâre at Norm Clinic, Sector 005. Someone dragged your sorry ass in here and Iâve been looking after you since then. Donât worry, you havenât been out long; a few hours at most.â
âNorm Clinicâ. Now why did that send a shiver down the parasite that was currently latched onto his spine. âI thought the whole reason you guys went to med school is to tell me the same stuff over and over..â
âBut nice to meet you, Doc. Iâm Eugene. But please call me Flash, everyone does. And thats.. mildly comforting. â Did anyone see his sorry ass getting dragged in here by an alien, is the real question.
âI guess I should thank you for uh. This then.â
drsawbonesmccoy:
âMe, and the answer is no. So lay yourself back down or Iâll do it for you!â
Oh shit.Â
â ... Not- Not to question who you are, Iâm sure youâve got like 12 phds and stuff but like uh-âÂ
âAnyone ever tell you that your bedside manner is bullet proof?âÂ

âŚď¸ ââHey, tights! You gonna move or not because I got a heck of aâ arm and I ainât gonna hold back just because ya wonât scoot.â She wasnât kidding but most people thought she was joking, must be the makeup or something. Clowns, jokes, you get the gist of it. Anyway, some sorry sap was about to get a face full of bat if he didnât move his butt.Â
He probably could have taken the hit. But sometimes... Sometimes you just really donât mess with a clown girl who has a bat and is really not afraid to use it. Itâs in the rulebook, or something. Regardless, Flash without hesitation throws webs up onto a telephone pole above them and is out of the way in a blink.
âA simple please would have also worked but, hey, manners, mindless violence, all the same in the end, right?â Â
Nothing in that rulebook about jabbing the lady while heâs conveniently out of reach, apparently.Â
baddestdangerboy:
Badouâs gotten this question about a million times. Heâs used to it. It probably shows on the look on his face when he turns to Flash, mouth in a thin line around the cigarette. Unimpressed.
âAre you fucking kidding me?â Let him just fix that censorship for you. âI donât care about all that. It doesnât matter, and since weâre already an experiment, I doubt the scientists give a shit either.â
Always when heâs trying to be a nice guy. Flash pinches the bridge of his nose and tries his best not to sigh since it kind of is his fault for butting in on someone elses business. But also there he goes again, the whole opening his mouth and directly inserting his foot, because that sure did sound like something a kid shouldnât be saying.
Damn his bleeding heart.Â
â... Yeah, I get you, no time for optimism, sure. But is that really any way to look at your situation? It sucks, trust me, its round two for me, so I know, but.. It wouldnât hurt to try and be productive with it. Or at least... somewhat more positive about it. I donât know if there are any uplifting metaphors for this exact situation but.. I generally see that meeting shitty situations with an unflappable attitude and a healthy dose of scathing sarcasm is a pretty solid strategy.âÂ
â --- Did anyone.. get the number of that truck that hit me..? âÂ
Flash woke up to a certain blinding white and overpowering scent of antiseptic, which means his sorry ass got dragged to a clinic. An answering mental nod from Venom told him thats exactly what happened and he sighed. Small mercies, graces, something that he couldnât remember his mother telling him.Â
With more effort than it normally should, he pulled himself to a sitting position and rubbed his forehead.Â
âRad. Nice to see something still works. Now who do I talk to about getting out of here?âÂ
