4. The Ultimate Warrior
The Ultimate Warrior isn’t the best in the ring, nor does he have the best cardio. Does that stop him? Of course not! He always puts on an amazing show. I love how he owns the whole “superstars are like superheroes” thing. One of my favourite matches of all time is the match pictured above from Wrestlemania, because he doesn’t give. Absolute beast.

1. Jeff Hardy
The first ever thing I can remember watching in wrestling was The Hardy Boyz vs The Dudleys in a cage match at Survivor Series 2001 (well, I remember seeing the ending). I’m sure I was watching wrestling a little before this as I know I already liked Jeff going into this match. He always put on a show and gave his body to the fans. Nobody will ever do the spots Jeff has done.
Games of the year so far...
Before I get into this, there is no Overwatch or Doom in this list. This list of 5 games are the only 5 games I’ve played from this year. So it’s just ordering them.
Honourable mention:
Star Ocean: Integrity & Faithlessness
I was very sceptical about this based on the mediocre reviews it’s been getting, but as a fan of the series, I had to get it. I haven’t finished it yet (hence why it’s not in the list) but it’s really really good. I’ll do a review for it once it’s finished, but all I’ll say is that if you’re a JRPG fan that was put off by the reviews, please get it.
5. Battleborn
I am basing this off of the beta which I played a ton of. I did buy it, but it was a few days before a higher entry in this list so it didn’t get played much. It’s got all the character you would expect from Gearbox, with fun gameplay. But it just confirms that MOBAs aren’t for me.
4. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst
I can’t really say if this is better than the first one. It’s pretty much the same game. However, that does bring some perks: it’s still really fun. That’s about it. The story is pretty dull, that characters don’t have any...character. A number of gameplay annoyances make this a game you can afford to miss.
3. Stories: The Path of Destines
A game I accidentally stumbled across on the PSN Store and got on a whim. It is an isometric hack ‘n’ slash with RPG elements. Multiple story choices with over 20 endings. All the speech and narrative is narrated by one guy and gives it a story book feel, which the art style matches. An incredible original game definitely worth your time. Recommended to everyone.
2. Dark Souls III
This is a tricky one for me. It’s the same issue I had when putting The Witcher III in my list last year: how do I rank I game that was incredibly good, but that I didn’t enjoy? And I don’t mean I didn’t enjoy it because it was hard or anything like that (Bloodborne is one of my favourite games of the last few years). It just never clicked with me. It could be that I haven’t played (much of) the other 2. Either way, I can’t deny how good it is. Combining classic Dark Souls with Bloodborne makes something great. Shame I didn’t like it. (Though that tree boss was freaking awesome!)
1. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
What else was it going to be? I know it’s an obvious choice, but it is that good. Not really a lot I can say about it other than it’s the perfect game. Possibly the best in the series: it has the best gameplay, the best story. The only thing that maybe puts it below Among Thieves is the characters felt a bit weak and it wasn’t as fun (maybe). But it’s comparing two 10/10 games. It’s just splitting hairs at this point. So yeah, it’s the perfect game.
My rule with opinions
So I’m gonna jump on the bandwagon of talking about the referendum. This will be my only post about it, but I was gonna post the same title anyway but more focused on gaming. The same concept still applies.
So my general rule with people having opinions is that people can have whatever opinion they want, as long as the reason behind it is justifiable. So, someone can say that my favourite film, game or book is garbage, as long as their reason is understandable. One of the first times I really can to this conclusion was back during the infamous IGN review of Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. In this review (as you’ve probably seen on the endless amount of memes about it) the person who reviewed it gave it a 7.9 (not bad score) with one of the notable negative comments being that there was too much water. I wrote a post defending this review at the time, but I’m going to repeat myself anyway. I totally agree with the comment. Have you played it? If so, then you can’t argue that there is too much water (maybe only in the Sapphire version). Having that much water means surfing a lot. This means extended periods of time fighting random battles against things that are so easy that it is just a waste of time. This is an understandable reason that someone wouldn’t like that game.
Now, adapting this into politics, and topically, the referendum. On the news, they went to a region of the UK (I forget where) that voted majority Leave. They asked a few people why they voted Leave. One person said it was because he didn’t like the fact that the EU is run by people not elected and he wanted to be in more control of who is in charge. To me this is a perfectly reasonable reason. Even if I disagree, I understand it. They then asked someone else who answered “well it’s got to be better than it is now”. Has it? How do you know? You’re basing a heavy decision on something you assume. I find it hard to understand how people can be so blinded by their own inflated optimism that their reason isn’t based on any “facts” or any logical reason. It’s like when a game is reviewed and it’s only negative comment is “no multiplayer”. That’s not a reason something is bad.
I respect democracy and people having the right to vote what they like, and that there isn’t anything that can be done now. I also know that, as noted above, there were Leave voters that have sound reasons. All I ask is that in future votes like this, vote based on what you know rather than what you hope. It’s why things aren’t reviewed before they’re tested.
“Plot” vs “Story” in games
I am a firm believer that there is a difference between plot and story in a game. Other people may have different names for each thing, but I know I’m not alone with this thought.
So “plot” is the narrative that the developers/writers/whoever created for the player to experience. For example, the plot of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is (at a base level) is that you are reconnected with your brother and have to find the treasure of infamous pirate Henry Avery. Another example, this time for Fallout 4, is that you have to find you son after waking up in a vault.
Now, when I talk about “story”, I mean the complete collection of a player’s personal experiences that the player has while navigating the events of the “plot”. It essentially expands on the pre-constructed narrative with events that may not be experienced by other players. So going back to Fallout 4, one person could focus all of their time building up a certain settlement, grow attached to the settlers or other characters, whereas another player could focus on hunting Deathclaws and other things to display their trophies in their house. Either way, even something as small as using a different weapon or companion can make someone experience an event completely differently, thus creating different “stories” within the same “plot”. Even in games like Pokémon, there is an incredibly high amounts of party variations people can use. Even if two players use the exact same team, they may teach their pokémon different moves or change their names creating two different experiences, or stories.
This is one of the many reasons why I believe that video games are the best form of entertainment. With films or books, however immersive they are, however enjoyable they are, you can’t obtain that same level of uniqueness. With films, what happens will always happen whenever somebody different watches it. Sure, people can be in different mental states giving a slightly different sense of immersion, attachment or interpretation, but someone can’t decide “this character is going to just run away from that scary noise rather than follow it into that creepy basement”. Games give you the freedom to do things your way. Even in games deemed simple by the masses such as Call Of Duty, hiding behind a different piece of cover or flanking from a different direction can alter an experience. And with the emergence of Quantic Dream and that style of game like Heavy Rain and Until Dawn, players can do anything they want and have their own story experienced in a film style atmosphere.
I can’t think of a game where two different stories can’t take place within the same plot. And as games continue to grow and evolve, this will forever be the case and will be the reason, for me at least, that video games are the most complete form of entertainment. Apart from maybe Dungeons & Dragons…

Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare - Sympathy
So I want to share my thoughts on the new Call Of Duty trailer. I’ve never really been a fan of the series but always appreciated that they were pretty decent shooters. But when I heard about the amount of dislikes the trailer was getting on YouTube, I had to take a look
I think it looks really good. It looks different. Looking through the comments, there were a lot of people saying that it is mostly recycled material from the other games, but most people were saying that they were tired of the future setting in Call Of Duty games. Well, let me take you back to World At War. When this came out, it came under a lot of criticism from fans and critics saying that the old-style war games were becoming boring. This is why they then started to go more and more futuristic with every entry, to the point where it’s now in space. They did it because of you people complaining. I feel so sorry for Infinity Ward. It seems that what ever they do is wrong. Get moaned at for keeping making old-style war games, so make futuristic ones. Then get moaned at for making futuristic war games.
And to people complaining about them only including Modern Warfare Remastered in with Infinite Warfare, just think about it from a business point of view. If they didn’t bundle it together, no body would buy their new game. They know that fans of the series will want MW Remastered, so this way, they’ll sell more copies of their new game. This may also be another explanation as to why Infinite Warfare is in space. Trying something new with the knowledge that it’ll still sell.
Defending the Final Fantasy VII Remake’s multi-part format
For years, a lot of people have been calling for a remake of the masterpiece Final Fantasy VII. I never understood why. I always thought that if you wanted to play it, just either play it on the original Playstation or download it on Steam, PS3/4, PSP or PS Vita.
Last year, there was outrage when the people behind the Final Fantasy VII Remake announced that it would be released in an episodic format. They explained this by saying that if people wanted to play the game as soon as possible, this would be the best way as they could release the first part for people to play while they made the rest. Made sense to me but people still complained.
Now, in an interview in Game Informer, the producer of Final Fantasy VII Remake Yoshinori Kitase says that each part (or episode) will be a full length game. He then goes on the to say that “one part should be on par with the scale of one Final Fantasy XIII game.”
Obviously, people still complained. In the comments section (oh, glorious comments section) on Facebook, people said [paraphrasing] “Well if every part is as good as Final Fantasy XIII, then it’s going to be awful”. This isn’t what Square are saying.
So back on the original Playstation, Final Fantasy VII was released on 3 discs. Kitase has said that they’re basing the Remake on the structure of the Final Fantasy XIII games, so I’m lead to believe that there will be 3 releases, each being ~60 hours. Here’s why I don’t understand people complaining: on Playstation, FF VII had 3 discs, each ~20 hours long, and took about 60 hours in total, With the Remake, there will (as I understand it) be 3 discs of ~60 hours length lasting about 180 hours in total. So why are people complaining about getting 3 times more FF7 content.
People never shut up about making a remake. To remake it with fully voiced CGI cutscenes, bigger cities with more emphasis on exploration, it would be impossible to have it on a single disc. It’s not going to be a scene for scene remake. They’ve already said that you’ll be able to explore more of Midgar than before so that gives you an idea of the scale of it. They’re giving people more than they wanted and are still getting criticized. I really feel sorry for the team behind this. Whatever they release, people won’t be happy. I think they’re doing a great job. At least you’re getting some kind of fan service.
