Rae Kleinâs âWaiting in the Field.â
Opening on December 11th, 2021 at The Valley Gallery in Taos, New Mexico is artist Rae Kleinâs solo exhibition, âWaiting in the Field.â
Through painting, Klein explores where the line is when events cross from in to out of oneâs control. Subtle emotions from the realization that one is becoming powerless translate into visual detail.

I THINK I AM GOING TO CUT MY HAIR
just the fact that there are seventy different organizing bodies for dog trainers should be the first problem. step one: letâs get everyone in a room together and get them to agree on something. anything. because even groups youâd expect to agree have beef with each other, and thatâs not getting into ideological divides.
and frankly? the role of state & national legislation on fields is to give those fields a minimum education and code of ethics. what would that even look like in dog training? quadrants? could we find someone to teach quadrants without going âthis one/these two/these three are Evilâ?? iâve seen people hate on operant conditioning. iâve seen people hate on classical conditioning. granted, i wouldnât trust those people with a houseplant but there you are. do we invite the alpha people into the room? if not, how do we keep them out? dogs are related to wolves and there are behavioral overlaps. how do we come up with a code of ethics for dog training that everyone agrees withâand is it still meaningful at that point? and what, in the end, would make it any different from just holding dog trainers to existing animal abuse laws?
i lived in the only county in the USA with a registration requirement for dog trainers, and it fucking sucked. it was implemented after a dog trainer killed a dog in a board & train. there was a lot of paperwork, a lot of money, and you had to disclose to clients how you were going to train their dog. which, okay, but none of the clients cared. none of them had even heard of this. half the dog trainers in the county werenât registered, or said they lived outside the county. and the original one whoâd been the cause of the regulation was herself registered. she could still be a dog trainer. it did not stop her.
i am a member of the APDT because it gave me a meaningful discount on insurance. iâm a CPDT-KA because i live in a liberal, educated city full of dog owners who think that makes me a better trainer, because i look young and needed something to get other trainers to listen to me (even though i draw on my masters way more often, it doesnât get the reactions i need), and because it gets me towards some credentials that are meaningful for me or valued by my clientele. (example: control unleashed instructor requests that you have another accreditation first, CPDT-KA was the easiest of those listed.)
but it does grate that the only two organizations iâm a member of are being such shits.
