the thing about lotf as a concept is that its very weird. for literally all factors in its creation. like FOR ITS TIME being a critique of the coral island made it a lot more Radical. but at the same time its very racist. and those 2 concepts can coexist (i.e. that one moby dick post about skull shapes). it should also be noted golding was a school teacher and yk mightve just hated those kids. anyways my main point is lotf cant be evaluated with a 1950s mindset as concepts like purity savagery and civilization (the 1 constant across lotf synopses is that they 'descend into savagery') are rooted in white colonialism and ethnocentrism. this is very apparent with characters in the manuscript using racial slurs to describe other characters behavior. like this was written before lucy (the fossil and we LOVE her) was discovered. THIS 🗣️ WAS 🗣️ WRITTEN 🗣️ BEFORE 🗣️ HUMANS 🗣️ REALIZED 🗣️ THEY 🗣️ EVOLVED 🗣️ OUT 🗣️ OF 🗣️ AFRICA
