Yoonkook is always the hardest for me to talk about, because I’ve been riding that previously tiny ship since things really picked up in the Boy in Luv era & they’re close to my heart. 

However since iBighit is in the darkest parts of my soul, apparently they’ve found the need to make them cannon. &a crushingly sad one at that.

So in honor of the fresh MV teaser that might or might not run parallel with my Sugakookie theory - let’s break down what I’ve been been brewing since the beginning.

When the I NEED U MV came out none of us could’ve really prepared for the firestorm that was to come. 

We got a normal version that was slightly disjointed, but still stunningly done, with a hint of a deeper tragedy.

Then the +19 came out & shit hit the fan.

My theory starts there.

I’m not on board with this theory but I like the blogger’s interpretation of what Yoongi and JungKook are to each other in the HYYH Trilogy. 

I myself have identified Suga and Kookie as Opposite Twins :

They do not have obvious matching roles like Rapmon and V and they do not go through similar struggles like J-Hope and Jimin though. We could actually say that they go through opposite struggles and have opposite states of mind.

They have opposite natures and while Suga is fire, JungKook is the “soother” in the relationship (it is also fitting that JungKook is often associated with the water element throughout the Trilogy). These respective characteristics are illustrated especially in the Prologue (campfire scene) and Run (fight scene).

Prologue & Run (JungKook trying to appease Suga’s mind)

In Neverland, Suga and JungKook could be identified as the Twins amongts the Lost Boys. Not because they do look like each other but actually because they don’t: when facing each other, they see an inverted image of themselves, like in a mirror. They are therefore polar opposite twins.

There were a lot of Yoonmin Grammy Hugs ™️ but this hug, from this angle, is by far my favorite!

The cutest part is that Yoongi nudged Jimin. He asked for that hug, which is a small detail that’s really fascinating. If you want a hug, why not just initiate one? But no, Yoongi has to hint hint that he wants a hug.

Hi! I was watching Are you sure? And the feeling i'm getting is that they are showing less idol and more human jimin, jk and tae. I cant really explain it well and much less in english. More barefaced and shirtless? I dont know why but that makes them more like the rest of mortals and less idols? Like I know they are human but they havent really show us until now? I really dont know how to explain it.

Motorbike jk, jimin with the stomach bug, tae sleeping in the car, all of them sleeping, etc, normally they are shown doing things all the time, i understand for the sake of entertainment, this time is eating, sleeping and playing, and i love that for them

Hi anon! I’m watching, but I’m a couple episodes behind. I need to catch up! I definitely see what you mean about AYS, and we also see this throughout Ch. 2 in general. A lot of the K-pop rules don’t really apply to the group anymore in many ways. I feel like they’re branching out artistically, but also in the ways you mentioned. We’re seeing a more “real”/truthful version of the guys.

I think the examples from AYS that you mentioned are exactly right! And I’d add a few more from Ch. 2 (of course my thoughts always drift to yoonmin; I can’t help it!) But in the Muse dance practice behind the scenes, Jimin wore his AgustD shirt twice…and it was clear that it was fading and he’d worn it many times. Often for dance practices and behind the scenes, the guys are wearing new clothes, luxury brands, etc. But it felt like we saw “the real Jimin,” who was wearing his favorite shirt, not what a stylist had suggested.

Another example is when the guys talk about their free time. I think they’ve been very candid about who they see often and who they see less. That’s not to say they aren’t all close! But it seems clear which members prioritize each other and/or have similar hobbies and therefore spend more time together. In the past, that’s something that was hinted at, but not emphasized. So, that’s another area in which we see a new level of honesty.

Anyway, I’m enjoying AYS. The guys seem to be having fun, and they look so gorgeous! As a Jimin biased yoonminer, I’m loving the unfettered views of the nevermind tattoo. 🤩

most misunderstood ym moment? most overhyped ym moment? favorite moment from another ship not ym?

Oooh anon, these are tough questions. Sorry it’s taken me a while to respond. I had trouble thinking of examples! Let’s see…

1. Most misunderstood moment (or under appreciated?): Jimin seeing Yoongi do his shoulder rehab. This was mentioned more than once. It’s really significant to me not only that Jimin was there to see Yoongi’s recovery, but also that they were both so open about it. And while friends can be supportive of each other (of course!) watching someone do difficult physical therapy seems to go beyond what is typical. Physical therapy isn’t always pretty. Yoongi mentioned how difficult it was and how much he was sweating. So the significance is twofold: Jimin made the effort to be there, and Yoongi felt comfortable with Jimin seeing him in his somewhat vulnerable moments. Some people swoon over skinship, but honestly…talk to me about Yoongi and Jimin being concerned about each other’s health and I’ll have heart eyes for days.

2. Overhyped? Oh, I’m not sure any yoonmin moment is overhyped; they’re all wonderful, whether they’re important or just crumbs. I love them all! I guess if I had to pick one, it would be the marimo. At the time, it was easy to get excited about Jimin naming the marimo “Suga,” saying the marimo was a spoiler for Face, and then carrying it around with him to the Face live (and taking a different marimo to Suchwita). It felt like a clue or like it was leading to something related to Face and then…that was that. Now, I just think, “Isn’t that cute? The first name he thought of was Suga!”

3. Moment from another ship? I just love seeing all of the guys happy. So, you could show me any cute moment from any pair, and I’d enjoy it. I wouldn’t be convinced by it, but I’d think it was great.

When talking about yoonmin, I like to focus on the things they tell us because it leaves less room for speculation. For instance, Yoongi said he had drinks with Jimin the day after the second Seoul concert, so we are safe in assuming that’s true. Jimin said he hung out with Yoongi the day before his birthday, and he showed us pics of the hotteok with the candles. There isn’t much to “interpret” there, right? These are facts.

However, there are some moments that are subtle and open to interpretation.

About one minute into this video, Jimin falls down on stage (don’t worry; it’s not a hard fall!). Jimin slips and smiles as he stands up, so it’s clear he’s ok. Meanwhile, both Yoongi and Joon notice and smile too. Yoongi keeps his eyes on Jimin until Jimin looks over and they make eye contact.

Here’s where the speculation comes in. It seems to me that Yoongi was checking on Jimin, keeping his eyes on him until he could get that eye contact in return, until he could confirm that yes, Jimin is ok, until they could share a smile and a chuckle. Yoongi seems a bit distracted from doing the choreo because he’s so focused on Jimin in that moment.

It’s fascinating to think about the time and place of a pair’s moments. Are the moments for us, or for them? Did they happen spontaneously? The on-stage moment in this video does not seem to have anything to do with us or the audience, and it was certainly spontaneous! So, it’s worth noting.

And this leads me to another thing: there’s a difference between evidence that suggests a pair is special and little things like this that are simply worth noticing. “Can’t friends look at each other?!” Um, yes! Of course! Friends can look at each other and check to see if they’re ok and pat each other on the back (as Joon does in this clip). It feels like every time a shipper/supporter of a pair points out a moment, people assume they are citing it as evidence when that isn’t always the case. Sometimes it’s just an observation. Sometimes these moments are just sweet and fun…and sometimes they are a great reminder that there are little things happening all the time that aren’t intended for us.
