Hi there!

I'm Nastja (she/her), a femme lesbian who didn't necessarily expect to get this far.

Although I'm not available for anything romantic or sexual personally, I am always very open to making friends. I love to chat about:

Queer stuff in general and lesbian and/or trans stuff in particular

Social issues stuff in general; especially intersectional feminism and "broad left" politics

You will see me using the tag 💘 and sometimes rambling about my dearest beloved there (coincidentally also called Nastja), which would be very normal if it weren't for the fact I'm often talking about her in the past tense, which to anyone new here could be confusing, so I'll explain:

It is the tag I made for my (now late) girlfriend, as in, she then died but my love for her did not.

She once said to me "if despite all this you still want me, I'll be yours forever", and—to her credit—she then loved me for the rest of her life. So, it's only fair that I love her for the rest of mine.

She was so sweet and kind and unfailingly gentle and caring with me, and I never knew how much I needed that until I got it.

It was quite literally the love of a lifetime, pure and simple, and I shall treasure it for the rest of mine.

If we look at the paper itself, it broadly says the same things, and includes a brief note in the "Strengths and Limitations" section, saying:

❝Nevertheless, several limitations should be acknowledged. First, the cross-sectional Wave 1 design precludes definitive causal inferences regarding the directionality of associations. Second, the family relationship variables rely on participants’ retrospective reports of childhood experiences, which may be affected by recall bias, particularly among respondents who are currently experiencing poor mental health.❞

In other words, they are saying:

We will write this whole paper and then include one sentence to acknowledge that we are overlooking the possibility that poor physical and mental health might, just might, affect people's ability to maintain friendships, and thus is more likely to be the main direction of causality

We will also note the limitation that if you're suffering now and you remember having a bad childhood, maybe your childhood was fine really and you're just imagining it 🤗

hi good morning. saw a post that was a graph showing how people met their romantic partners, and "online" had spiked insanely high in the last probably 5 years, and all other ways had (to a much less insane degree, mind you) decreased. and people in the notes were like, "this isn't concerning bc of ppl meeting online, but look at the destruction of community!!"

and its like, okay, i am Probably just being pedantic here, but "loss of community" is not what's happening, it's a loss of in-person spaces to mingle with each other (combined with the fact that like, post-covid nobody wants to just hang out at a crowded bar or club the same way, lmao). and it's the fact that you can reach so many different people online in a way that's much harder as an adult irl, where your options are like, coworker or bar.

the loss of "third places" is an issue, and the increased attempts to keep people On Line via algorithmic bullshit is also a real issue. but lamenting the "death of community" on your fucking blog is so ridiculous to me. online is real! online is community! online relationships are meaningful! there can absolutely be something lost when you go from in person to online, but to act like we have "lost the ability to be in community" is just not true. if anything, it's easier now more than ever to find people like you that you feel safe around.

Nastja’s notes: Ed is always very sweet about me :) And that is a very good description of mine and Clare’s play in general. We think very alike and pretty much always know what the other is doing. The World Championship game he’s referencing was particularly illustrative of this; at the start of the game, Clare and I made eye contact for about one (1) second, knew what we were going to do, and both immediately turned to talk to other people (in my case, Ed, who, sandwiched between me and Clare, knew that he needed to start negotiating for his life immediately, and ultimately gave me what I needed from that game).

❝I've only played one game with Nastja and what I found it to be was she’s just like very very good at like communication and cooling tempers and trying to find common ground and like seemingly going into negotiations with an with an open mind. Which is difficult if you're that solid an alliance player to do right because people need to believe that you are flexible enough to do it. Nastja’s notes: In the game he's referencing, I played marriage counsellor between him and my main ally, as they were having tensions on the other side of the board and I wanted them to find a mutually acceptable way to safely de-escalate, so that he could stab his ally. Then I talked him into a suicidal attack against his main ally, because his main ally was my main rival for the win. It’s also the only game where I’ve stabbed an ally who did me no wrong, and it was because I had two allies and I had to make a decision in a situation where any action (including inaction) would constitute a stab of one or the other. 

Darcy:

❝So I've played I played a decent amount of games with Nastja. I've also been at the same tournaments as Nastja. So I have a decent decent chunk of experience with her. She is someone that literally everyone will want as the alliance partner because like she is the most trustworthy player I think I've ever played an alliance with. Nastja’s notes: Darcy speaking the truth about me as usual. Back in our first ever game together, he was so stressed, but I got him to go for a series of insanely high-trust moves on a promise of me getting him what he needed to make the top board of that tournament, instead of stabbing him for a massive win myself and dashing his tournament chances.

Trans Women Face More Injuries Than Cis Ones (It's Not Even Close)

For all those wondering why the title doesn't say this, it's because the study doesn't say this either.

While the cause of the injuries may be obvious, it's not technically known, and science speaks for what is known.

Some (a minority) of the trans women injured reported that it was violence, and some (a smaller minority) reported that it was intimate partner violence, but most did not report anything and the stats are just from the fact that they needed treatment and so went through the radiology department with their injuries.

I understand your frustration, but they did not include the reasons because they often did not know the reasons, because they are working from data from the radiology department who sometimes asked what happened, and sometimes didn't.

All of this is explained in the article linked above, and in the last paragraph of my reblog responding to the last person who asked this in the very reblog chain that you are reblogging.

The paper itself has also been published now; I don't have institutional access to this one so I can only see the abstract myself, but here it is:

Abstract Background Despite the high prevalence of violence among transgender and gender-diverse individuals, injury disparities remain understudied and are often attributed to underreporting. To address this limitation, we analysed radiology reports to objectively compare the prevalence and patterns of injuries between transgender women and cisgender women. Methods We used the Research Patient Data Registry at a level 1 trauma centre in the USA to identify 263 transgender women and 525 age-matched, race-matched and ethnicity-matched cisgender women. Adjusted incidence rate ratios (aIRR) and ORs were calculated to compare imaging and injury patterns. Two radiologists, blinded to patients’ gender identity, assessed the presence and type of injuries based solely on radiology reports. Electronic medical records were reviewed for all patients with radiologically evident injuries. Results In our cohort, 25.4% of cases sustained 141 injuries (67/263), compared with 14.7% of controls with 98 injuries (77/525). Injury rates were significantly higher among transgender women (aIRR: 3.3 (2.5–4.3), p<0.01), particularly for cranial (7.8 (2.1–29.1), p<0.01), facial (36.4 (8.6–153.8), p<0.01) and thoracic injuries (4.9 (1.4–17), p=0.01). Notably, 78.9% of facial fractures (15/19) involved the midface. Transgender women were also more likely to undergo imaging in emergency departments compared with cisgender women (OR: 5.3 (3.3–8.3), p<0.01). Conclusion Transgender women experience significantly higher injury rates, particularly to the head, face and chest and more frequently present to emergency departments.
