Introduction

OC roleplay blog for Turn: Washington’s Spies. It should be noted that, due to the time period my character is in there may be mentions of homophobia, non graphic violence, contradictory I know, but...I’m just not into any graphic depictions and more or less what a young soldier’s life is like.

I’m fairly new to the historical verses but have done research: I’m always open to advice, if I have gotten anything wrong or it seems out of place.

Guidelines are in Chion’s biography.

You’ve heard of the artist with a thousand WIPs. But have you heard of the artist who finishes everything right away but then takes a year to upload said art? Because that’s me. 🤡✨ But that’s okay because I first read the Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden in the heat of summer! It actually immediatly became one of my favourite book/series of all time. So I had to make some art to honour it💙❄️ Very much inspired by the Illumicrate editions of the series which introduced me to it! Since publishing my own book I’ve been trying my best to get more acquainted with the big book world out there and have been reading more. So who knows, maybe I’ll draw some more of my favourites. 👀✨

you don't have to appeal to everyone! not every blog will be interested in your muse, not every writing style will click with yours, and not every person you follow will become someone you write with regularly. and that's okay. because it doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong or that your character isn't good enough or that your writing has no value. sometimes, things just don't line up, and that's perfectly normal. there will be other people who enjoy what you bring to the dash; they'll love your interpretation, your ideas, your style, your excitement, your headcanons, and the way you breathe life into your muse. you don't need to change yourself — just keep doing what feels right for you!

The Problem of True Crime Communities

I think true crime communities are, well, from my experience they can be helpful. Very friendly depending. And other times scary. I've been interested in documentaries lately, most of Dateline stories so nothing gory. I don't do gore at all, especially real life. {Okay...Sweeney Todd is the only movie I like that has gore in it, but it's Tim Burton and he's my favorite director).

I was curious about a tragedy I've been studying and found a few forums on Reddit I thought would be helpful, even talked to some of the users. Friendly at first. Welcoming. But then it turned dark and fast, the moment you disagreed or had a different opinion.

Left one group so fast after facing harassment over a prevention story I had an idea for, I just wanted to write something different but nope, nope. Yet ironically the users wrote dark fanfiction that classified as fandom behavior versus what people like me wrote, it was bizarre and honestly scary.

I had never felt more unsafe than being in a true crime group, honestly. It felt like I was in a cult at times. They also did not want me to join certain groups or read certain books, especially reading a biography a mother wrote. I read it and she was fine to me, just a mother who grieved...why they didn't want me to read it confused me. It was weird to read them tell me this.

Lesson learned.

Be careful what groups you look at or get sucked into, just...felt a need to share it. I take breaks from true crime frequently, but more so after that incident. Life's too short to dwell on tragedies like Columbine, Dyatlov Pass, Cassie Jo Stoddart, etc. I'm getting back into former hobbies instead and feel so much better.
