I'm sure fanfic authors can agree with this, because characters vary and so do perspective and your characters can be so unreliable and yet it can fit into the story perfectly just because the protagonist has an ever changing view on the world around them.

Characters in Fanfiction!!

Unpopular opinion but I feel like adjusting a characters personality or how their viewed in fanfiction is alright to an extent.

Because most books, shows and movies show all the characters from the protagonist's perspective, so the character may be viewed completely differently to someone else, which works really well with Oc and reader inserts.

For example, Iceman and Maverick.

Throughout the movie Iceman is portrayed in a negative light, because Maverick sees him as competition, someone who doesn't think he is good enough.

This continues right up until the end where they see each other differently.How the qualities they hated before are actually really good and they have a shift in perspective, there we see Iceman in a positive light and this continues into Top Gun Maverick.

Ice would be the type to point out every plot hole in an action movie, and it would piss Mav off to no end. He just wants to sit back and watch his mindless action movie goddamnit. But when they watch romcoms, it’s Mav’s turn to get pissed at every cheesy ass line and plot hole. He can barely stand them, but he sits through them for Ice. But not without yelling at the screen about how unrealistic it is, and the least they could do would be to make it vaguely believable.
