neni is HORRIFIED by the idea of immortality. even imagining being alive forever and always makes her shiver. talk about an endless afterlife gives her cold sweat and she might need to leave the room.

this is especially bothersome in her dragon age verse where she is supposed to preach about how much better everything was when elves were immortal and couldn’t die and just chose to sleep forever and...

that fear is called apeirophobia... she doesn’t have that with all things though. just her own existence. (doesn’t like to think too long about general eternity either tho)

when neniel learns what vallaslin truly means, she does not get rid of it... but she adds to it. she has mythal’s design and at least at the branches on the forehead, she gets tiny pink flowers added. so it becomes her own thing. respecting her past but deciding her own future.

emotional counseling as keeper

as in most religions, a religious leader gives support and counseling. to people approaching her alone or as couples. she listened to many of the counseling the keeper gave and sometimes as she grew older gave them herself. while a lot of advice involves dalish traditions and religion, she still needed to learn symptoms of those suffering of some kind. anxiety, depression, ptsd, etc were not rare in her clan. ( a minority hated, cultural trauma and rarely feeling truly save has a toll on people.

as herald and inquisitor she keeps an eye on all those in the inner circle and the soldiers etc. but she often finds that the education on the suffering of the soul is a bit less researched with humans. or their counseling involves religion and the chantry even more, and with that often a guilting and “you suffer to pay for the sins of our ancestors blabla”. she ain’t happy about that,
